  1. This is interesting. Before I rip apart the idea of putting kids drawings on a D-1A ticket, I would like to know if this is true for all tickets. Do reserved tickets have this as well? My guess is it is true because it would be too much to have two types of season tickets. Here is what you see when you go onto the Miami web page.. Here is what you see on Go Zips. It really does not take a trained professional to see that one school is doing something different to try to sell tickets by using the internet and the physical ticket as a selling tool. Is using kids drawings on tickets really the best we can do? Well you have two ways to look at this. The way you are looking at it. orThe fact that Miami is concerned with the past (ala showing a bunch of people who have little relevance in today's world). And Akron is trying to build for the future by getting children interested in the Zips. Now granted my version gives a lot of credit to Akron's Marketing, but you see my point. Kids can drive the market. You don't see sell outs and parents fighting to get their hands on Pet Rocks anymore, but try to find Wii right now. Plus there is the whole building a sense of ownership thing. Please tell me you are joking with this nonsense? How can you possibly say that Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, Paul Brown, and John Pont are a bunch of people who have little relevance today? Do you understand how many coaches, offensive and defensive schemes, NCAA championships, NFL franchises, etc... came from these people? Most of them are a who's who list of college football coaching legends!! You amaze me more and more every day when you completely diss other programs. lolAlso, if Akron is targeting these little kids as their marketing plan they are not very bright. These kids will draw whatever their teacher asks them to draw. Besides, none of them can afford tickets!!! If their parents are not Zips fans they simply won't take them to the games. Marketing college football games to a bunch of elementary and middle school kids would be absolutely comical.
  2. Anyone that watched the games last year can see why we would have Browns Fan quarterback syndrome. The qb play was better at the local high school team I watch. If I were coach of the Zips I may go as far as switching qb's every quarter the 1st game or 2 to see who is more productive and in control of the offense then just go with the hot hand. If Rodgers is even with CJ, then go with the younger guy and see if he develops.
  3. I think the only reason it shows the schedule that way is because OSU is the headline game on the main channel. They probably haven't made the final channel assignments yet. From everywhere I have looked, including the Big Ten Network schedule itself, the Akron game will be shown live. The channel doesn't cater to local preferences, so if it says it is being played live it will be played in all locations.
  4. Since Great Lakes is my favorite brewery in the world I have to make a slight correction. Elliot Ness is actually a Vienna Style Lager, not an ale. You are talking two different animals there. However, kudos to you for having fantastic taste.
  5. It's listed on the BTN schedule for noon. BTN has several alternate channels that basically show their whole schedule of games. I'm sure it will be on at the Fairlawn Lizard. That's where we watched the Indiana game last year. This year I get all the BTN channels so I can watch at home. Not the same as the lizard, though.I really wish the Zips game wasn't on at the same time as the OSU game. I don't have BTN and I bet any bar I go to will be lucky to have even one tv with Akron-Wisc on it. Plus I'll have to fight the sea of red to even find a seat to attempt to watch it. I might even skip watching the game and listen to it on radio just to avoid the massive OSU crowds.I have Dish Network and they play multiple games at the same time on the Big Ten Network. They have a "main channel" if you will, but they will also play 2 or 3 other games at the same time on an alternate channel. No worries, the Zips will be shown live.
  6. I can comprehend it. I was an OSU fan until they won the National Championship. I was an OSU fan through all the Cooper years. The reason I am not a fan now, is because of all the front runners plain and simple. So yes I want to see OSU fail. Not out of jealousy. (Do you really think any of us grew up a Zips fan? No we are all indoctrinated with who our families root for.) No, I want to see them fail so I don't have to see them in my home town paper everyday, so I don't have to see a bunch of pop colored douchebags running around with OSU gear they picked up even though they are attending OU, Miami, Can't, and yes Akron. I don't like people who are fans of winners because they are winners. Like the Indians fans of the late 90's who never even stepped foot into Muni. The only issue I have with you, is the fact that you come on here talking OSU. It's a Zip board. Unless we are playing, or we get a transfer OSU should not be mentioned on this board. They have nothing to do with us. And everyone on here that absolutely hates them (for what ever reason they have) has a right to hate them, whether it's jealousy, because they weren't accepted, or because they are shoved down our throats day in and day out and called great, when they (and any BCS school for that matter) only play, at most, a total of 5 really good schools the entire year.I barely even comment on this board. I come on here EVERY day simply to read what is going on with the Zips program. I also never talk about Ohio State unless someone makes a stupid comment. I just can't help myself when it comes to that. I have to say something. It doesn't make me a "shill for their program", etc...I guess I will never understand why you want them to fail and frankly I don't care. I hear what you are saying, but if you think them losing will change things you are just wrong. Did people stop rooting for the Browns all these years that they have stunk? Nope. You have to realize that OSU will never stink the way you want them to because the state of Ohio produces too many great football players. They have the best facilities, a great tradition and an ENORMOUS alumni base. They are the largest university in the state and they always will be. That is just the way it is. If you don't like them fine. However, WE have to respect their success and use them as a benchmark in trying to build our program. Telling the whole world that they suck and they are brainwashed idiots for rooting for them just makes you sound childish and not very well informed.Just like you, I have a right to speak about whatever I want on this board (yes even OSU) as long as I am not being vulgar, etc... I really don't care what anyone thinks of me or my comments. I just don't understand the logic of some of the posters in here, so I make comments.Hypothetical......what if all of the sudden Akron won 10 games every year, played in a few BCS bowls and moved to the Big East? They added another 15,000 seats to the new stadium and we sold out every game. All of the sudden "douchebags" started popping out of the woodwork wearing Zips gear. The Zips were on the front page every day and led all the newscasts. They started pulling in top 100 players every year and getting 10+ guys drafted every year. What would you say then? Like it or not people tend to cheer for what they feel is their "home team" that represents them. You can call them front runners, you can call them douchebags, whatever. The fact is....for over half a century OSU has been the only successful (and for the most part only) major college football team in the state. It is 100% normal for 75% of the population to root for them. Just look at LSU, etc...They have quite a few D-1 teams, but 75% of that state are LSU fans for the same exact reasons.
  7. I wasn't writing any stories about any other teams. I was simply replying to someone calling me an idiot. Everyone in here seems to be the ones to bring up Ohio State all the time. Maybe some of you should go to the OSU boards because you seem to be so obsessed with them that you feel obligated to rip on them constantly.By the way...thanks for the link.
  8. After that first half of football against them last year I felt hustled.PS Rasor is going to camp today, so hopefully he will have a Bowser update for us.You should have felt hustled after that first half. If OSU isn't even going to try and bring their "A" game, they shouldn't even bother trying. They do this with almost every MAC team they play.
  9. It depends on perspective. Florida, compared to other year's teams, sucked. And it was a play on the fact that they lost to Michigan, who every OSU fan thinks sucked because they lost to a 1AA school. And the fact that I want OSU to be terrible because I'm sick of them and all their front running fans. But I'm sure you can't wrap your suckeye brain around that.Florida was a top 10-15 team almost all of last year. They play in the SEC as well. They hardly sucked even compared to normal. They were also coming off a national title year. Also, OSU fans never thought Michigan sucked. They just didn't think they were as good as OSU and they were upset that Michigan (who hasn't beaten OSU in 4 or 5 years) was talking smack about them all year.I just think it is pretty sad that you have to want a team to stink because you are upset that others like them. This is how you deal with people not rooting for Akron. You are the type that is jealous of others successes, so you root for them to fail in order to make yourself and your cause feel better. Also, no need to throw out the "suckeye brain" comment. I have been an OSU fan since I was old enough to start watching football. Why? Because my ENTIRE FAMILY are OSU fans and that is what I grew up watching. Plus, I have a cousin that played football at OSU. However, I decided to go to UA and not OSU. I am an Akron season ticket holder. I watch every game that I possibly can and yes I was in Columbus last year rooting for Akron! I know you can't comprehend it, but it is very easy being a fan of both and I always will be even when people like you try to make me feel like lessor of a fan for doing so.
  10. BFH--Get the hell off this board...Screw Beanie....Go spend your time on tosu's board.I have never seen BFH hassle us either, unlike Buckzip or that other idiot that used to be on here all the time. Hey I know Wells is a OSU player, but I hope he wins the Heisman sometime too. That's because I am an Akron Public Schools graduate and it would be huge for the community where he grew up (Garfield; Firestone Park). Plus just like that jerk-off Tebow proved, you can win the Heisman on a sucky team.I believe I am the other idiot you were referring to. However, I never hustled anyone. You just always got bent out of shape about any comment I made that was "heaven forbid" pro OSU. Even now you call Florida and Ohio State sucky teams. lol It must be miserable being you. lol
  11. We've heard this same argument a lot over the last couple of years. Carlton Jackson, David Harvey, Vince Hill, Aaris Reed. I'm sure I'm missing some. They come in as some of the most highly rated players to ever play in our football program from a recruiting standpoint. Those who make it to campus don't seem to last very long. It makes some of us uneasy to see all of the same arguments coming up again with a different name attached to them. I don't think you can really fault us for that. This kid is an absolute stud of a linebacker. Watch his rivals video at linebacker and you will see one of the top 5 linebackers in the 2008 class. I was giddy as hell when he verballed to OSU, so I am obviously just as jacked that he is now a Zip. His brother Devon is a great kid and is a Sophomore at OSU right now. I am more than willing to give this kid a chance and hope that he has character like his brother. I hope he turns out to be a great asset to the program.
  12. Question if anyone knows......how much higher will the steel be on the home side? I thought I saw somewhere that the home side will be 7 stories tall, but I may have been mistaken. The current steel looks like it is about 4 or so now.
  13. Yes, UC does have a problem recruiting in the city of Cincinnati. If they kept the talent at home that team would be scary because Cincinnati may have the best high school football in the country. OSU also has a hard time recruiting Cincinnati. Many of the top kids in that area go to Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee, etc...I think part of the reason they haven't been able to recruit the area is perception of the program. Sound familiar? Until this year, their fan support has been terrible. The stadium has been empty and nobody in the city has cared about the team. Mark Dantonio came in and really turned the program around. He emphasized recruiting the Cincy area and things turned. Dantonio left the cupboard pretty full when he left for Michigan State, but Brian Kelly is doing a hell of a job as his replacement. They are really starting to get noticed by the local talent as well.
  14. Tressel doesn't need to say anything. They had Texas the last 2 years in non-conference. They got a break this year and then jump right back into the fire with home and home's against USC, Miami (Florida), Virginia Tech and Oklahoma. They, unlike many of the big names schools, don't shy away from the big games whether at home or on the road. Calling out OSU's schedule this year is just a joke. Saying all that...I think it is a disgrace to the MAC that Can't would decide not to play their starters. All they are doing is hurting their program, so good for them. If Martin truly does something this stupid you can guarantee that OSU will never schedule Can't again.
  15. He is enrolled at UA.You are right...we know nothing for sure about Moore. I keep hearing he is enrolled and on the roster, but he was nowhere to be seen on the sidelines during the Can't game. I also didn't see him on the sidelines of the UConn game, although that doesn't surprise me. No need to travel him half way through the season. All that being said....I will wait until I actually see him in uniform before I believe anybody on his status.
  16. I have watched Miller play 4 or 5 times. I grew up in Tusc county, so I have caught a few games when I have gone back home to visit.Miller is a big kid. He looks all of 6-3 and 210 pounds. Their offense is a run first style, so some games he gets 20+ attempts and others he gets 10-15. The one game I watched this year he only threw about 10 or 12 times. When they did have him throw, they had him rolling out (ala Charlie Frye at Akron). He has decent feet, but isn't a burner. He throws a nice ball. Doesn't have a cannon, but he seems pretty accurate. Like I said, he only threw about 12 times that game. He threw one very impressive pass where he rolled to the right and then fired the ball about 40 yards to the other corner of the endzone for a td. He seems to be able to make all the throws. Only negative I saw is that he takes a lot of chances throwing into coverage.
  17. That sucks. He was the glue that held that defense together. I am sure someone will step up and knowing Mackey, he will still be a vocal leader on the sidelines and in the locker room. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
  18. Here is another way the station may have looking at it. It's actually more reasonable than what you presented. The Big Ten sucks and a game between OSU and NW is a pointless excercise. Since there are so many idiots stupid enough to center their Saturday afternoon around watching this stupidity, they had better get the first five minutes on before the blowout takes place and everyone turns their TV off. There is absolutely no excuse for the station turning off what was a great game for a meaningless game. While I like your enthusiasm, I hate to say that YOU are the one that is off. If you polled the state of Ohio, 90% of the population would say "Turn off the meaningless Akron-Can't game that nobody cares about so we can watch the pre-game for OSU's Big Ten opener."Seriously, Akron was 1-2 and Can't was 2-2. How can you possibly come up with the notion that game was more meaningful than a team ranked in the top 8 in the country opening conference play? While I whole heartedly agree that the Northwestern game would render to be worthless, most Buckeye fans really don't care. When OSU is undefeated and ranked in the top 10 their games will ALWAYS be the priority on television no matter who they play.Put the shoe on the other foot. Say Akron was ranked #8 in the country and opening conference play with Buffalo. OSU was 1-2 and playing Illinois. Would you be upset if they kept the OSU game on instead of switching to the Akron game?Saying all this.....I think it was absolutely rotten what channel 5 did. If you decide to put a game on television you show it until completion and I don't care who comes on after the fact. If it is that big of a deal, run the entire OSU game on tape delay so nobody misses EITHER game. Maybe somebody misses a late evening re-run, but Akron and OSU fans would BOTH be happy.I am not defending Akron or OSU on this. Honestly, I 100% blame channel 5. However, to say that people are idiots to plan their day around a Buckeye game because you consider it meaningless is rather elitist of you. Who are you to say who the public should want to watch? Obviously, you are upset that 90% of the state chooses to believe the Buckeyes are their priority and not the Zips. Akron couldn't even get a sell out on an 80 degree day against their rival that is 20 minutes away with a small stadium that had 6 sections tarped off. Yet YOU think they should be the priority in the publics eyes. lolI think the public speaks volumes about which team is the priority. Just look at ticket sales, merchandise sales, etc...Before you start ripping on me I want you to know. I was AT the Rubber Bowl watching the Zips. I chose my #1 priority. I just dvr'ed the Buckeyes game to watch later. I blame Chanel 5 for this disaster, unless it was a decision made higher up somewhere, but seeing how the game was shown in its entirety on the COLUMBUS station that was carrying it, I doubt that is the case. Here's my beef: This is a Cleveland station, and Akron and Can't State have fanbases contained almost entirely within it's broadcast range. People in Columbus don't get this channel. The most exciting time in the game that concerned many thousands of people totally contained in thier viewing area was cut off to show a bunch of idiot talking heads talk about a game that wasn't even being played at the time. In fact, our game ended before the OSU game ever kicked off.People wonder why UA is viewed as "second-fiddle", it's because of decisions like this made by the media, not just chanel 5 but also the ABJ, all the other TV news stations, and the radio news/sports guys to completely ignore us. Clevelanders root for OSU because that is what is on TV. They look down upon Akron because TV stations pre-empt our games to talk about an OSU game that isn't even being played yet, so they get the ideas that they have about us.Sorry guys, but there is a lot of frustration I am harboring over the idiot media. The only thing we can do to change it is to STAND UP and be counted. STAND UP for our school, and for it's fans. They can't do it themselves either because they are too apathetic to care, or because they have been subjected to this sh*t for so long that they just shrug their shoulders and accept it. I agree with some of this, but you still miss the point. People think OSU is relevant because they are a winner, not because they are always on tv. Unless Akron is consistently in the Top 25 EVERY year, they will always play 2nd fiddle. That is just the way that it is. Is it fair? Not at all. But, that is how competition and capitalism works. To the victor goes the spoils. It is a free market folks. Akron has to take the business away because people want to watch the product. I continue to harp on this, but nobody seems to get it.
  19. Why blame the MAC supporters or non-MAC supporters? Blame the teams!! Until MAC teams starting being extremely competitive against quality out of conference teams on a consistent basis everyone will think they are a minor league conference and rightfully so. You have to win games against good teams to earn peoples respect. You can't just play the "I am 1-A too" card. Now, for the butt monkey comments.......what? I don't know anyone that is critical of all those things. If so, name them. It surely isn't me and I am sure I was one of the intended targets. I am critical of 2 or 3 , but not all. If you can honestly look at the list you wrote and think that every one of those issue is fine, then you sir need to stop drinking the kool aid and realize Akron will always be a .500 football team if you are satisfied.I sat in the stands yesterday and there were a lot of unhappy people sitting around me. Granted, everyone is happy Akron won, but they aren't 100% sold on the team or the direction of the program. I heard quite a few "this is just sloppy football. That coach needs to go and they need to get better players. Luckily Can't doesn't have anything either." Some more examples of things I heard from MULTIPLE people......1. Carlton Jackson can't throw the ball and a lot of people were yelling to get him out of the game. Then they realized the back up option was no better. While I don't 100% agree with that assessment it is partly true. In my opinion, CJ holds the ball way too long. He is a run first qb more than he should be. He tries to put touch on too many balls and that makes him extremely inaccurate. I just think he is a really young guy and he will get better. However, the coaches need to work with him on putting a little more zip on the ball. He missed a lot of open guys and had a few balls nearly picked because they floated in the air forever.2. The team is EXTREMELY undisciplined. There were way too many false starts, personal fouls, missed tackles and dropped passes. These are all signs of poor coaching and lack of leadership.3. The play calling is terrible most of the time. Everything we run is sideways. We complained the entire first half because we never ran the ball between the tackles and that was allowing the defense to stifle our "sideways" offensive attack. Guess what happened in the 2nd half? JD made an adjustment and we finally started running a little between the tackles and we had some success. It brought the safeties inside and now all the sudden the outside opened up. Imagine that?4. Special teams was sub par. The punting game was terrible on both sides. You guys can say what you want, but I brought 4 people to the game with me. 2 of them had never been to an Akron game before. About 2 quarters in one of them looked at me and said "I thought you said this was division 1 football? Our high school punter is way better than this guy." I just shrugged my shoulders because I really had nothing to say. It was a sloppy, sloppy game.I think many things about the program are heading in the right direction. I think the talent level is improving. I think the facilities are improving, etc.. However, to say that everything is peachy would be foolish.
  20. Here is another way the station may have looking at it. It's actually more reasonable than what you presented. The Big Ten sucks and a game between OSU and NW is a pointless excercise. 21. You are trying to be funny, but you missed the whole point of that post. Let me refrsh your memory. 1. I asked if he was on the team because he wasn't on the roster.2. Someone stated that he had issues with his paperwork and would be on the roster on August22.3. I asked at that time if his paperwork had come through because he had no been on any updated roster.4. Nothing was added.5. I asked if he was gone because nobody had any info at all a week or so after the 22nd.6. Captain posted a smart assed email saying "he is on the team" and then he locked the thread. By the looks of it, all you moderators are the same.7. He was nowhere to be seen during the Army game and he wasn't on the roster.8. He wasn't on the roster for the OSU game. 9. Prior to the OSU game a website said he had enrolled at Hargrave along with Hill.10. I checked the Hargrave roster and saw neither Hill nor Moore.11. I found out Hill was enrolled at a different prep school, but I still couldn't find Moore anywhere.12. I re-posted my question here to try and get an answer.13. A few days went by and NOBODY answered.14. A few other people asked for the question to be answered as well. The Indiana game rolls by and STILL no Moore. That is when I made my statement above because what was anyone going to say? Nobody any any proof he was on the team.15. All of the sudden he appears on the roster for the Can't game.If you want to call that eating crow go ahead. I call it me asking a question and people getting overly sensitive for nothing. They have no answer to give you, but they drill you for saying "looks like ANOTHER top guy is gone." Gee, who would think the guy would just all of the sudden show up for the 4th freaking week of the season. Yeah, some of us are crazy for thinking he was gone. Especially with the track record of our top recruit retention rates during the last 3 or 4 years. lolStill....I will wait until I see him in uniform before I believe anything. Akron isn't exactly known for having the most accurate roster information.
  22. Eat crow for what? I asked if he was on the team because he wasn't on the roster. Then, another site said he went to Hargrave. I went to Hargrave and didn't see him on the roster, so I RE-POSTED my original question. Why would anyone have to eat crow? I hope he is on the team.
  23. Well, NC State has only won 4 games in the last 2 years and 2 of them have been against D1-AA foes. I wouldn't exactly consider that a headliner win during any decade. Minnesota is just flat out terrible. They haven't been a force for decades. You are right that a lot more smaller schools beat bigger schools now, but the smaller schools VERY RARELY beat or even compete with the top 30-40 type teams. They compete and rarely beat the lower to middle of the road BCS teams. As for the OSU thing. Yeah, I can see that because Tressel is coaching them. He isn't like teams in the SEC that will blow anyone out if they get the chance. Tressel subbed his 2nd and 3rd string freshman in the game during the 2nd series and didn't open the playbook (according to him in the Washington pregame) at all vs YSU or Akron. He never tried to blow the games open. Washington is WAY better than Akron and OSU put 33 on them on the road and basically called the dogs off at the beginning of the 4th quarter. You are right that the scholarship limits have helped bring more parity, but the elite players still go to the elite schools. The marginal guys now choose between a low end BCS school and an upper level mid major. That has caused the parity, but I think it has just about evened out as much as it is going to except a few teams here and there that are in the right locations, etc...(Ie..South Florida, Rutgers, UCF). They have a chance to move into the elite category, while some of the lower level BCS schools (ie, Minnesota, Northwestern) will struggle to attract athletes.
  24. Should have "opened" his play book for Florida earlier this year. Nice comeback. Why don't we actually have a winning season or 2 against a bunch of losers that is the MAC conference before you spout off about a team that playing in the national title game last year?
  25. I had bad flushbacks of the Can't game last year while watching Lewis run silly on our defense. Unless they find a way to shore that up against Edelman he will eat us alive once again. Luckily for us, his surrounding players don't have the talent that Indiana does, so we should be able to put a spy on him. We simply couldn't do that with Indiana because their wideouts would have killed us. With Can't we can take the chance. If we get beat with Edelman throwing so be it. I just don't want him running for 200 yards.
