  1. What was the name of the bar that used to be there? Was it the Townehouse? I remember going in there on Thursday nights back in the early 80's and seeing James Black in there with all of his girl friends. Draft beers were real cheap, but watered down. That was fun place.
  2. I moved out west three years ago. This blog just reminds me about how much I dislike Ohio State, their fans, and the media that supports them. I do miss allot about Northeast Ohio. Especially the Zips and Browns. One thing I do not miss is the constant talk about the Buckeyes. You can't turn on the radio or TV anywhere in the Cleveland-Akron area without being subjected to the OSU "homer" bias. Best of luck to my Zips bretheren located in the Cleveland media market. You still have to listen to this crap until mid January. Go Zips!
  3. I saw the latest line in the local paper yesterday. It has Can't favored by 16 1/2. Although I do not think they will cover, I do see them winning this year. They are an average MAC team at best this year, but we are downright awful. At this point, I would be surprised if we win a single game.
  4. Sad. The Tribe was a world series contender just three short years ago. Trade away all of your stars in a cost cutting effort and this is what you get - Even less revenue at the box office. Way to go Dolan! You truly have no clue about owning a baseball team. If our football team doesn't turn things around (I have confidence that they eventually will), the info will look the same way.
  5. Orange 31 Zips 17
  6. Sounds like your past life is similar to the one that I have been living for the past 20 years, minus the drunkfest on Thursday night. I did do that for the first few years out of school though. The body can no longer take it when we get into our 30's. The good news now is that I don't have to travel as much by airplane. I live in Southern California and all of my customers are located in LA and San Diego. Only have to fly for company functions now. I have a 21 year old living at home. He is a nincomppop (Not sure if this is the correct spelling). Anyway, I keep praying that the kid gets his act together. Eventually he will. It is just frustrating in the meantime. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Any photos? I live in California and do not get back to Ohio very often. Thanks.
  8. Any chance he could come here to be close to his brother? Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5468302 Freshman Jordan Haden leaves GatorsEmail Print Comments44 Associated Press GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida safety Jordan Haden, the younger brother of Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Joe Haden, has left the team and intends to transfer. SEC blog ESPN.com's Chris Low writes about all things SEC in his conference blog. • Blog network: College Football Nation Haden, a 5-foot-11 freshman from Fort Washington, Md., was behind senior Ahmad Black and fellow newcomer Matt Elam on the depth chart. It is unclear where Haden plans to transfer. He chose Florida over Georgia, Illinois, LSU, North Carolina, Rutgers and Virginia Tech, and would have to sit out this season under NCAA rules. Haden's older brother, Joe, was a three-year starter at Florida and the seventh overall pick in April's NFL draft. Jordan Haden followed his sibling to Gainesville in hopes of finding similar success. Coach Ianello - Get on the phone to this guy now!
  9. We would be rated higher if they took into consideration mean incomes following graduation. Engineers make allot more coming out of college than many of the fine arts degrees.
  10. What about Jerry Faust? Is Jim Dennison still coaching? he might make a good color commentator.
  11. What about Miami's win over Northwestern in the opener around 1995? I think that was NU's only loss until they faced SC in the Rose Bowl.
  12. Like I said in a previous post. Lets see where the guy stands six games in and then 12 games in before we rush to judgement. I'm even willing to basically give the guy a pass the first year. Especially if he decides to "blow everything up" and start over.
  13. Never mind. I found it. 4.7 seconds.
  14. He does look accurate. Especially on the longer throws. I know that this is just a snipet of what he has accomplished, but one thing that I noticed is that when under pressure he chooses to run rather than scramble and look for an open receiver. All of his runs have been successful though. Might be tougher to do that at the next level. Does anybody know what his 40 time is?
  15. Ehhh...I understand Rasor's point but i would rather R.I. spend as much time as possible getting the team ready to play and win. If we go 6-6 or better this year then we can worry about golfing next year. As far as "contributor's" from last year, they were few and far between so everyone should get a fair shot, of course the way JD handled his talent leaves alot to be desired. Overall just win and I don't give a damn about the fluff My sentiments exactly. Most of what Razor writes is really pertainent and is very insightful, but I have a hard time understanding the importance of rating a coach before the season begins. If he wins, but treats the media the way Bill Belicheck does, then I'm okay with that. But if he loses, he will be run out of town just like the last two were. I didn't vote in the poll because I felt it was too soon to pass down judgement. Lets take a vote after the first six games and then again at the end of the season.
  16. Greece is sucking wind too. Debt on top of debt. Eventually someone has to pay the bill. George Bush was a moderate Republican who over spent (More than Clinton). Because of that, he was a poor President (Not because of the war - That was necessary and still is - Need to go after Iran next). So what does America do, Instead of replacing him with a fiscal conservative who wants to uphold the constitution, we go even further in the wrong direction and elect a socialist who hates everything that this country was built on. I wouldn't say at this point we are screwed, but if just one to two more election cycles continue towards socialism, then at that point the big government control freaks have won the war and we the people have lost our freedoms (Firearms and freedom of speech are the next things to go). The mainstream media has done a great job of demonizing those of us who want to defend the constitution and limit the size of government. They have also brainwashed many into buying into the entitlement mentality. About 30-40% of America is now voting for those who are willing to promise them the most. Folks need to pull themselves up by the boot straps and quit relying on someone else (Government) to take care of their problems because eventually all of the hard working folks are going to give up as well. That is what always happens in socialist economies. It is also why they always fail. When we get to the point where are giving half to 3/4 of our income to those who are unambitious and don't care, that is when the death spiral begins. Socialism has been tried many times throughout the history of the world and has failed everytime. I can't understand for the life of me why there are those who somehow think that they can make it work, and those who want to support it. Have they ignored history? There is only one type of ISM that works and it is capitalism. It is fair for all across the board. It rewards success and creates economic boom. Socialism punishes success and bankrupts a nation.
  17. Very good article. Nothing surprising though. I think this has more of an effect on the Big 11 then it does on the MAC because Akron was already losing out on the blue chip players. Granted, it also probably means less one, two, and three star athletes as well. Although there is now a smaller pool of talent in Ohio then previously, there are still as many overall D1 recruits across the country as previously. This just tells us that we need to focus our recruiting efforts elsewhere. Akron has an advantage over other MAC schools because of all of the recent money that has been spent to improve the overall quality of our campus, particularly in the area of athletics. This makes us an attractive place to out of state athletes. I can't believe that Idaho is a hot bed for football talent, but Boise State continues to excel year in and year out because they are dipping into the talent of California and other talent rich states. I'm not worried about this as long as our coching staff realizes it and takes the necessary actions.
  18. UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton are two mid major programs that always have nationally ranked teams. Why? because they are in Southern California where there is a ton of baseball talent, and, they can play all year long. Ohio just doesn't produce allot of top talent. Much of that has to do with weather. Even Ohio State isn't very good compared to the southwestern and southeastern schools. With that said, Akron does have the facilities to compete in the MAC, and occaisionally we do have a pretty good team, just not with the same consistency as other schools in our conference.
  19. Most folks involved in acedemia are radical leftists who have never held a job in the private sector and are clueless at running a business. If they get control of the purse strings associated with college athletics, the internal costs to operate athletics will go up (More inefficient bureaucracy), but the revenues coming in will not. This will lead to cuts, which in turn, will lead to a poor product on the field. Eventually athletics can no longer sustain itself and will need to be dropped. I pray this never happens at UA.
  20. There's a storm coming in November for Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. I love that the libs in the media are dismissing the Tea Party movement because it is only going to make things worse for them. They have no idea what is in store for them. Liberalism always creates the exact opposite of it's stated intent.
  21. Economic Left/ Right = 6.12 Social Libertarian Authoritarian = 2.51 I support the private sector and the constitution. I'm in favor of the preseervation of my freedoms that were given to me by our founding fathers. I don't care much for government. With the exception of a few extreme cases, we are all capable of taking care of ourselves. We do not need government for that. Let them defend us and build our infrastructure. Otherwise, get out of the way and leave us alone. President Reagan was right when he once said "Government cannot solve our problems because they are the problem".
  22. I voted for four wins. Gardner Webb and Ball State are sure things. The other two will come from the three games vs. Can't, Miami, and Buffalo. Can't is not a sure thing. They will win at least as many games as us this year and probably one or two more. If the Zips end up with five or six, it will be a very successful first year for Ianello. This team will eventually improve to where they are near or at the top of the east division consistently, but it will take a few years to add recruits and solidify the new schemes on both sides of the ball. My vote to win it all this year is Temple. They have slowly improved year by year under Al Golden. He will be the next coach to leave for bigger and better things (Maybe after the 2010 season). Adding Temple has definitely improved the overall strength of the conference. Now I just wish the would join for basketball too.
  23. As much as it pains me to say it, the title game will be a rewind of the first two Can't Akron meetings. We will have 24 wins and no post season tourney to show for it. I love everyone's optimism on this board, but I just don't see how this team can beat Can't. They are just way too physical for us or anyone else in this league. In order to beat them, we would need to be "lights out" from the 3 point arc and beyond and not turn the ball over. Anything is possible, but this scenario is unlikely.
  24. My friends and I spent a lot of time at his place in the early to mid 80's. Joe was always a nice guy, but he kind of struck me as a wiseguy type with his open collered shirts, gold chains and brash behavior. He was probably in his late 40's then, but was always hitting on the college girls. Back in those days it was either Sun, Splash, or Townehouse on the weekends. My friend, Rich met his future wife in the Sun. He is now paying for that mistake 25 years later as she is trying to suck him dry of everything.
  25. Stanford played a spirited and aggressive second half, but never really threatened in this one. Spies nearly made it 3-0 with a shot off the crossbar late in the game. Good win for the Zips. Now they take on a Tulsa team next Saturday that they defeated earlier in the season. Three more victories to go!
