  1. Bassitt's going to end up in San Diego. Melvin and Bassitt are reportedly best friends.
  2. Not to mention he was probably illegally recruited by Kowalchoke.
  3. Congratulations to all who received honors, especially Jared. Here's to hoping there will never be another Coach of the Year or All Conference member in the MAC from Akron going forward. 😉
  4. We've had a chance all season outside of OU. This team competes, and I don't see that changing.
  5. AT Boise, too. I don't know who Boise returned from last season, but they won the MWC, which has Nevada, San Diego State, etc. First of all, I 100% agree our win over South Dakota State is going to look really good. Second of all, props to South Dakota State for their schedule. Their first 4 games all had significant postseasons last year... Akron (NCAA Tournament near upset over UCLA) Boise (Won MWC, 8 seed in NCAAs, lost to #9 Seed Memphis) St. Bonnie (Lost to Xavier in the NIT Semifinals) #10 Arkansas (Elite Eight) Their 5th opponent is Stephen F Austin, which has had a ton of success in recent years and despite not making the NCAA or NIT last year, still posted a 22-10 record). After that, they have Valpo and James Madison, before going on the road to KSUcks and Bama (back to back days - 12/2 & 12/3). If they tread water through their OOC schedule, they could run the table in conference, as it's pretty weak. This will probably prove to be the OOC win we've needed to boost our seeding resume.
  6. Dambrot's Zips vs. Groce's Bobcats 2008-09: 1-1 2009-10: 2-1 (Akron lost in the Championship Game) 2010-11: 0-2 2011-12: 1-2 (Akron lost in the Championship Game) Advantage Groce's Bobcats 6-4. We also never blew OU out like they did to us. Our victories were either a couple possession difference at best or OT/2OT. 24 pt loss in Athens (2011-12) and 25 pt loss in Athens (2010-11).
  7. Found this regarding Spriggs.
  8. In addition to barstool.tv for streaming the game, Barstool Sports has an app available for the following devices... https://www.barstoolsports.com/download Cannot confirm that the game will also be available on the app, but wanted to put this information out there.
  9. Passer Tucks Ball. If the player loses possession of the ball during an attempt to bring it back toward his body, or if the player loses possession after he has tucked the ball into his body, it is a fumble. Tuck rule (American football) - Wikipedia No idea how this was ruled an incomplete pass. His arm was coming forward initially until it quite obviously stopped before the end of the throwing motion and was starting to make its way back into the body of the passer.
  10. Furthering this, the Big East has a tv/media deal with Fox Sports worth $40M+ per year - $32M+ more per year than the MAC's deal with CBS/ESPN - AND THE BIG EAST DOESN'T HAVE FOOTBALL! It is set to expire in a couple of years, but based on the ratings charts I saw, there is no reason a new deal won't be agreed upon, and probably for an even larger amount. If the opportunity would arise to join the Big East in basketball and all other sports except football, you immediately take that offer and figure football out later.
  11. HOW DO YOU MISS THAT THROW?!
  12. HOLY SMOKES! WE HAVE LIFE!
  13. HE WAS PULLING IT BACK TO TUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Dijon Jennings time, please.
  15. 1. Awful spot on Undercuffler run, but Jeff was a (insert Jeff Undercuffler getting ejected clip here) for going down so soon. 2. BUBBA! 3. Can someone fix the audio issues? The dog whistle sound needs to go.
  16. TOUCHDOWN AKRON! Irons to Adams!
  17. Ross Tucker needs to ease up on the DJ Irons hype train. Haha.
  18. I still don't believe this to be true. If Guthrie is the one saying he won't restrict Embick to the MAC, then I'd imagine we have an autonomous out.
  19. Combination. My guess is they had a post-season meeting, and Groce told him the system worked better with a smaller, quicker lineup. Probably told him he'd be a great asset off the bench, but couldn't guarantee significant minutes. Aziz probably took that information and did what he needed to do. Wouldn't surprise me if Groce helped him to Utah Valley via some sort of connection. Groce's OU squads never had true "bigs". They always had a shorter (6'7"-6'9"), athletic front court with athletic guards that could shoot. Fast forward to Groce at Akron: he recruited true bigs the first couple of years because it's easier to protect the rim with a 7 footer than it is to establish your system. LCJ/Cheese/Banks/X1.0 established the system, with X1.0 often being the tallest player on the court for us. Once LCJ left, there was a lot of uncertainty with the direction of the program. Would it take a few years for the system to be re-established? Groce again brought in multiple 7 footers, potentially to help buy time. The system was re-established late last year with the emergence of X2.0, and the 7 footers left the program. Groce then filled the open front court spots with Amani Lyles (6'7"), Sammy Hunter (6'9"), and Prince Mosengo (6'8"). Hankerson and Nate Johnson are the supporting cast scoring threats to X2.0, and Groce has now re-built the formula that saw so much success at OU. Hopefully we reap the same benefits (we almost did last year, and probably would have in 2020...). RE: Groce's OU squads. They ate Dambrot's lunch. We didn't find success against Groce's squad until he left and Jim Christian took over the same group of guys. Dambrot had Harney and Treadwell, which evened out the athletic deficit in the front court, and took the pressure off of Zeke. Jim Christian also didn't know how to get the most out of Groce's squad, but that didn't matter to Boston College when they made him the captain of the ship that brought up the rear in the ACC fleet for nearly a decade.
  20. Pushing people to the tourist cheesesteaks instead of Dalessandro's - typical. 😉
  21. Barstool with some Freeman merch!
  22. I'm out of reactions, which is probably a good thing since I won't be able to spam the "sad reaction" to any football posts tonight, but this is well researched. The Big East makes 1000% sense for us. Xavier, Creighton, and Georgetown are traditional soccer powerhouses. Butler has come on strong in recent years, and the rest of the conference is no slouch with Seton Hall, St. John's, etc. You make an excellent point with the geographic fit, as the Big East has shifted more and more to the midwest with their basketball acquisitions. I didn't realize that UIW and Hartford (for a laugh, research their men's basketball program right now) were the only 2 independents left. That's even more reason to get the hell out of the MAC after this season. Side note: I wonder if a Big East soccer membership would help get some Big East schools on our basketball schedule. That would be a phenomenal perk. The MAC has been a boat anchor for its top schools. Steinbrecher is a joke.
  23. Anybody know if Noah Willig (Norton HS) is getting any legitimate D1 interest, or if this is a walk-on type visit? I played little league baseball with his late older brother, who was a year behind me in grade school.
  24. I'm working on getting more answers about the stream via Twitter. I'll share my findings as they come.
  25. This is probably the biggest reason he didn't have the same type of success at the P5 level. Mid Major college basketball embodies the beauty of college basketball - "teamism". P5 ball is a mixture of AAU & NBA for the most part; it's simply not as entertaining. Thank you for sharing this.
