This isn't entirely fair. He was a 19-win coach 3/4 years at Xavier and was just under .500 in the Big East. 4 years of being stagnant doesn't get you a 5th year at Xavier, especially after the success Chris Mack had for 9-10 years. Was Steele successful by Xavier's standards? Nope. But he wasn't an utter failure either. Miami OH has the horses in the barn to compete with anyone this year, assuming their shot is on. I do question their depth and versatility though.

He's on the page that has the frontcourt players. The initial page has the backcourt.

Okonkwo doesn't have the post moves/fluidity on offense to deal with physical "bigs". When he wasn't getting the calls, you could tell it was getting to him mentally and he started forcing everything. Props to MMK and Lyles for grabbing the bull by the horns and making the absolute most out of their 2nd half PT. Both were way too fluid/quick/versatile for Toledo's "bigs".

At least it's the JAR. If the ABJ would've written this article, they would've included a picture of the MACC.

Increasing JAR Attendance/Engaging the Fans
Let'sGoZips94 replied to clarkwgriswold's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
OU fans might single handily fund the JAR renovation with beer at $2. -
They are 4-0 in the MAC having beaten CMU, Buffalo, NIU, and Balls. First two on the road, last 2 at home. They are one of the top 3 offenses in the MAC and like to play a up-tempo style similar to Akron. They have very streaky shooters, though. They will go as far as Clayton, Brown, and Paveletzke take them. Hadaway is a nice 4th piece. They are shooting a strong 48.2% from the field this season along with 36.7% from 3 while averaging 81.1 PPG. Toledo was a good warmup measuring stick. 2 of our next 3 are the measuring sticks - Ohio and Miami. The MAC will come down to one of these 3 I believe.

I believe we were 3-16 from 3 in the first half (ended 9-29, so 6-13 in the second half). Toledo had 31 FT attempts and made 25. We had 9 FT attempts and made 6. This is a double digit win if the FT discrepancy isn't so lopsided, and that's with our pathetic first half shooting performance. Quite the win.

Toledo is more speculative for the AAC. From my understanding, they told the MW no because their basketball would lose its home. They are AAC or bust for conference movement it seems.
-
There have been rumors surrounding NIU and Toledo for a few years now that other conferences are looking to poach them from the MAC. NIU has now gone to the Mountain West and Toledo could follow to the AAC, should there be legitimate interest.

Kent loses by 11 to previously 3-12 WMU, 94-83. That's their best offensive game maybe all year and they still lost. They have 2 losses in MAC play, both at home to Balls and WMU.

What a win. 5 v 8 and we still won.

This team is really rounding into form. Everyone is finding their place in this team.

Sharron is special. MMK is fun to watch. He has fun out there.

Terrific comeback. Up 2. Finish this!!!!

Simmons needs to be T'd up, if not ejected, for how much he's protesting. Precedent was set with Shammah. I don't make the rules.

Are there any police officers in the JAR? Theft was just committed by the men in stripes to end the half.

First time all season Nate has exercised his veteran status. Changed this game early with his effort on the boards and driving into the paint.

$10k+ to a college-age young adult (whatever that means) is a solid chunk of change. Imagine having room & board paid for along with most meals, workouts, equipment, education, etc., and getting $10k+ on top of that. A decent number of these athletes come from very little and their legal prospects for making money - at least early on - depend solely on football. Whether or not it's worth leaving your current situation for or how the money is spent in the long run isn't ours to judge. The only thing that matters is the individuals making the decisions aren't lied to, scammed, or taken advantage of. The funny part is as they're chasing the money, the taxes they pay go towards the coaches' 6 or 7 figure salaries (such a joke). The NCAA could have prevented this years ago by simply allowing college athletes to make money on their own. The uproar and Wild West was ushered in by the boards of college athletes turning to their left and right only to see their non student athlete counterparts making money via streaming, social media, or even regular jobs. The suits and donors at these bigger universities do what all crooked elites do and didn't let a good tragedy go to waste. They took advantage of the situation and pushed pay to play, which is why we're here now and what the real problem is.

How about they play BINGO in The Outback prior to the game? Those of drinking age can slam $2 beers, and those not of drinking age can learn what sports are and how they exist to help fund the piece of paper (aka degree) they're chasing.

Class of '25 Verbal Commits

How did you know Jamari is short for Jackmerius? Great call. They look a lot alike -
They are good. 104 NET. Close-ish losses to Ole Miss and TCU, wins vs Ark St and JMU. They have not been blown out by anyone like Akron has so I would presume this to be a competitive game.
-
Great gesture from Indiana. Imagine telling Enrique 5 years ago he'd have an NBA All Star and Olympic Gold Medalist at his high school jersey dedication.
-
All teams that won today scored 91 or more. Miami 91, Balls 91, Akron 105, Ohio 108. Live look at Pinky seeing the MAC light up the scoreboard as his band of misfits are near the bottom of the country in offense...

Don't be surprised when we go back to shooting 40 3s next game. EMU played the perimeter to take away our 3P attempts and subsequently gave up the entire paint/baseline. The end result was our most efficient offensive game all year and 105 points. Teams won't be making that mistake again.

That's the most complete game we have played all season - by far. Well done men!
