Watching the teams warm up & Big Dog's nowhere to be seen. Anyone got anything??
-
Good call. I mentioned that in the 2017 Recruiting thread but definitely should have placed that here. Kinda caught me by surprise because 3 of his best friends are signing w/ UA - Suggs, Bridges & Zuriel Sanders, plus STVM teammates Sampson & Woodridge.

Beacon: Unbeaten in the MAC, Zips hope to keep momentum against burgeoning rival Buffalo. GT puts it well: Heated competition helps to build rivalries. If that competition comes in do-or-die situations, emotions and intensity only multiply. Say hello to the University of Akron’s newest top basketball rival — the Buffalo Bulls. This is a great article! There are three or four different conversations one could start from this article alone. Thanks, GT!!

I voted Jeremiah Wood. Big, Bad Jeremiah is the most intimidating player the MAC's ever seen. For the younger crowd, the very intimidating Tree Treadwell, to whom no one dared make direct eye contact, would actually be a somewhat distant second to Jeremiah. Jeremiah was the man. Of the ten men out there, he was the undisputed Alpha anytime he set foot on the court. And if we didn't win the game, well, everyone knew who'd win the fight after the game. Lol. I also appreciated the fact that Jeremiah was extremely polished offensively with all kinds of moves down low, could put the ball on the floor & could also hit jump shots, even threes; almost impossible to guard. You could also run the offense through him, much like Dog, as Wood was an excellent passer. He's also the best rebounder I've ever seen don the blue & gold. Jeremiah was only 6-7, but had hands the size of dinner plates & at least a 7-foot wingspan. He was strong as a freaking ox and pretty explosive. Ladies and gentlemen, for your consideration, I present The Big Daddy, Jeremiah Wood.

^^Nice! That's going old school! Now that I think of it, a couple years after that, the first year I really kinda started following Zips basketball, this guy was our starting center

I considered Rome the PF & Wood the C. I only went back to the J-Wood era because I don't remember any good C's in the Dan Hipsher era (when I began closely following the Zips). I remember the last few years of the Crawford era but wasn't a real fan.

They're friends. I'm just their Uber driver ?

Who would be your first pick in gym class? Why? *If you've got a candidate worth considering who predates big, bad Jeremiah, sorry, but you're too old to vote. Go get your grandkids to help you find your banana and hope our society doesn't begin leaning towards legalized euthanasia.

I'm bringing two friends Go Zips!!!

I didn't know we had offered him. Now I'm heartbroken he didn't commit to UA. He turned himself into a GREAT DL & is an extremely high-character, intelligent young man (I follow him on twitter). Ugh. Very disappointing.

CB Marquess Callaway 2017 Zips commit

I saw that. I don't think we offered him, did we? I'd been following him all year waiting (hoping, wondering) for us to offer him and we never did.

Perfect example. YSU was going for blood & playing us was their NCAA tourney game... while we laid an egg. If YSU beat us, any team in the MAC can beat us. Stay humble & stay hungry, Zips!

Out of Conference Schedule Complete for 2017
Blue & Gold replied to 94zipgrad's topic in Akron Zips Football
Are you allowed to do that? -
The Boston Celtics are putting a GE (General Electric) logo on their uniform. In a few years I'm afraid American basketball, baseball & football jerseys are going to look more like euro soccer or NASCAR.

Agreed. Maybe we're just in a mini-slump, but I used to laugh at how much prettier our cheerleaders were than Kant's, but now it's a coin toss.

Out of Conference Schedule Complete for 2017

No way to know one way or the other, but I wonder... A-PB is lame to the degree that, I wonder if UA was working to get YSU to just bite the bullet & come play us w/o expecting a return trip and YSU refused, making UA a little desperate to simply get the date filled? -
Out of Conference Schedule Complete for 2017

Ball State excites me as much as . (Miami does the same. I used to hate Miami but anymore they just make me ) But the rest of the home slate is great. With ISU, Ohio, Kant & Buffalo, all at home, attendance should be pretty decent (I know, I know... define "decent,"). And I mentioned this before, but Toledo should be on the schedule every year; natural geographic/demographic rivalry there. -
I'm still crossing my fingers for UGIII's brother Florida DT Uriah Gilbert. Uriah doesn't tweet often & has mentioned nothing on social media concerning his recruiting. Earlier in the year he was offered by Baylor, so he's legit. And this is the 2nd consecutive year he's been named 1st Team All State in Florida's 4A division. Uriah Gilbert (DL) made first-team All-State in Class 4A and became the 30th TC player to make it to the first team since the school began playing a full varsity schedule in 2002. The Celtics' total is best ever in terms of first-team selections, two better than Dunnellon. Gilbert was the only county player to repeat as a first-team selection and is the first Trinity Catholic player to earn consecutive first-team selections since 2009 when Kadron Boone and Frankie Velez were picked.

Rubin only tweeted about his ISU visit.
