One thing I liked was that the announcers were trying to figure out why Bost had such a sub-par game. They said Akron just sped him up too much. If we sped up Bost -one of the best PG's we'll see this year- to the point of taking him out of his game, our D may be awfully good this year.

Absolutely. I thought we'd get off to a slow start this year and I didn't pick us to win tonight. Boy was I wrong!!! The ESPNU announcers heaped high praise on the Zips tonight, calling them mature, composed, quick, long, athletic, aggressive, well-coached, confident, saying simply, "The best team won tonight." Wow.

Miss. State isn't going near the paint. Zeke owns it when he's in the game. He's in all their heads. He literally changes the game even if it doesn't always show up on the stat sheet. He's owning that Miss. St. big man everyone's been talking about.

I'll be pleasantly surprised with a win tonight. I still think we've just got too many new pieces that must fit together for this team to get off to a fast start. Tonight, facing similar athleticism, the Zips are going to have to react much more quickly than against JC (or in Canada) & have that 6th sense -cohesion- which just doesn't really develop until you get some games under your collective belts.None-the-less, go Zips!

Eldon's 2011-2012 Season Preview
Blue & Gold replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Sounds like KD still wants Deji to play this year:"The Zips' steadiest guard throughout the preseason, 6-3 freshman Deji Ibitayo, suffered a knee injury and is out at least a month. His loss was evident against JCU, as the Zips had a whopping 25 turnovers. Ibitayo should be up to speed by the semester break and hitting top gear by the conference season and the MAC Tournament..." I must admit, I wasn't overly impressed with Brian Walsh @ backup PG against John Carroll. -
This one is truly disappointing, but if Toneo was admitted to the Naval Academy, great move for him.

Big game next week -vs- Wadsworth. Classic old Suburban League matchup. Should be a good one.

Tressel was on the Can't sideline Friday night. Say no more.Keener, you wrote, "Say no more," but I'm not sure what you're getting at here or where you were going with that. Go on.

Speaking of silver/gray being incorporated into the color scheme of many schools, I now have new favorite football uniforms - Oklahoma State is currently wearing their gray helmets & pants w/ black jerseys & orange numbering. They're simply awesome.
-
And as our women's team more than doubled-up on poor Ohio Dominican.

iCoach has a 5-year contract which we'd have to pay should we fire him. Question: What about his staff? Are they all on extended contracts as well and would we have to eat that $$ too?

Hey bro, go to gozips.com and click the "RECRUITS" tab @ the top of the page. There is a lot of the information you need right there. I'd be surprised if they didn't have an open tryout of some sort - thought I don't know what the chances of making the team may be - probably not very high. Most of the walk-ons are invited, if I'm not mistaken. Most of the players are recruited and, someone correct me if I'm wrong here, on partial athletic scholarships.

No doubt concerning the Timbers, Whitecaps and Impact. The Cascadia Cup makes games between Vancouver, Portland an Seattle relevant regardless of records.Has Orlando been granted an expansion franchise? If not, are the Cosmos still in the running for team #20?I believe they're top of the list. check this list out for attendance, http://www.kenn.com/the_blog/?m=201110Heck, I'll just show them:It would be nice if we could get our PDL team above 200 next year. If they pulled in the numbers that UA gets, we could easily see a NASL or USL Pro team in Akron.I didn't understand this hierarchy. After simply seeing this list the Akron Summit Assault already seems more interesting to me. I'd almost guarantee that no one but hard core soccer fans understand this.

+1. From the video they look great. I'd love to purchase one (and shorts).

What Ails the Soccer Kings?
Blue & Gold replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
+1. This is an amazing program. We lost 5 (right?) starters to the pros yet we're still a Top 5-ish team. And incredibly young. We're on top of the American soccer world right now. -
While I wish we had gold uniforms, I have no problem adding silver/gray to the color scheme - lots of schools are adding it as an alternate/trim color, along, of course, with black.Check out Oklahoma State's new gray/silver football uniforms. They're pretty sick.
-
Forget what I just said. You're right, Big Zip, they are silver. I just saw the link to GoZips.com. Alright, yeah, very odd. Oh, well, whatever. Still pretty cool, I guess? Idk, I want to see alternate GOLD unis. We haven't had them since Dru, Wood & Rome played.
-
That's gold. It's just a light shade of old-gold. Very classy. Very sweet. We're fortunate to have gold in our colors. Very cool.Did anyone else notice that where the white uni has a "Z" on the leg, the blue uni has an "A" and the alternate gold uni has "UA."Extremely well done. I'd be willing to shell out $150 (possibly more) for a replica alternate gold jersey & shorts. Wonder if they'll be available? Also, I think they showed the Akron LeBrons. Not everyone on the team has to wear them. The LeBrons are actually designed for a big (heavy) man and not so much for a guard. I only wear them because they're LeBrons, while actually a lighter shoe w/ less support (e.g., Kobes or Jordans) would be fine for me.

MLS overtakes NBA for 3rd place behind the NFL & MLB.A disclaimer @ the bottom of the article:"Critics will say these numbers are deceiving, since soccer stadiums are much bigger than basketball and hockey arenas. Also, the soccer season is shorter than the never-ending schedules in sports like hockey and hoops. Yet this is still a big step for passionate soccer fans who daydream about the MLS being a relevant sport for Americans."
-
If there is one thing that may keep Zeke out of the NBA, this is it. He's too hard on himself. I can relate - this is exactly how I was when I played - for my teams' sake I was always pretty afraid of failure. Great athletes aren't like that (not to mention it takes all the fun out of the game). Zeke may be too critical/introspective/sensitive for his own good. Let it go, big fella.

My $.02 contribution:AA looked electric; quickest Zip since Jimmal Ball, IMHO.Brian Walsh looked awfully pedestrian as backup PG. Frankly, the team never looked very good while AA was on the bench.Nick Harney is going to be fantastic. Wow.What'd Zeke have, 2 points? Kinda odd.Gilliam is a true baller. Athletic, muscular, explosive 6'5 with an amazing stroke from 3. Best player on the team? (Zeke of course, with the most professional potential.)Treadwell's a physical specimen but didn't get a lot of PT. Obviously still learning/adjusting.Nic had a very sweet stroke from 3. I hope he doesn't "fall in love," with that shot - we really need him down low.Gotta love Josh Egner, but he just doesn't seem to bring a lot to the table. I say move Nic to 5 when Zeke rests.Other than that I really couldn't tell much due to the sloppy nature of the game. John Carrol was clearly overmatched athletically but were really scrappy & fought hard. But they were so overmatched our guys looked to be clowning around a little bit. They better get laser-focussed over the next 6 days in preparation for Mississippi State. Jeez, what a shock it's going to be to go from playing JC one game to MS the next. I'm sticking w/ my prediction of a slow start for this team. Too many new pieces are going to have to learn to play together & KD's going to have to use the regular season to get his rotations down. By the 2nd half of the MAC season I'd say we'll be gelling & once again win the MACC.

You think YOU had it rough last night....
Blue & Gold replied to xu9697's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yeah, but at least they were playing Florida State. We were playing Miami of Ohio. -
Huh? Could you elaborate on this?
-
The new uni's are sweeeet! The only change I'd make is printing "ZIPS" in blue, just like the name on the back of the jersey. The "Z" on the leg is perfect. Pretty cool that it's only on one side.I really want to see them bring back the alternate gold unis. They're actually my favorites, though the whites are very sharp. The new LeBrons are sweet. I almost bought a pair a few days ago. Ultimately I decided to put off the purchase till later - get a little more court time out of my current 'Brons. (They're awfully expensive - about $150 IIRC.)If they sell the Akron LeBrons I'll definitely drop the $$ on a pair.

The Band and Soccer, is it necessary?
Blue & Gold replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
We do spread out. We take about 40 of us to the west side whenever the opponent's goalie is on that side. It definitely livens the area up a bit.The real problem is that most people are content to just sit on their hands and stay quiet throughout the entirety of the game. I know some of you on this board are part of that group of fans too. I don't care if you're 50 or a 20 year old college student, have some fun and loosen up. The chants are easy to learn and if you have a few beers in you, it isn't too hard to let go and get loud. I'd love to hear from anyone who finds it hard to join in too, i'd really like to know why.We had this same ZNO conversation a few weeks ago and the general consensus was that the Rowdies needed to congregate behind the goal so that they could hear each other. Oranizing/synchronizing the chants while spread out was next to impossible.
