  1. Isn't it a 6PM Tip? According to the tourney website, we'll be up 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 5pm CST Duquesne/UDC matchup. According to the Valpo site, 7:30 CST/8:30 EST Gozips.com says 8:30EST Saturday's game is 6pm CST. Is the Valpo game going to be available online anywhere? Verizon League Network?
  2. This rumor is so bizarre and so new that I'm still boggled right now & don't really know what to think. But your angle is what I'm thinking/feeling right now. It just sounds extremely insulting to the current players. And for a single-season fix? It really seems to reek of desperation - which, of course, iCoach is probably feeling right now. If this is true, it can't be taken as a good sign of the over all health of the program. At least with JUCO transfers you get them for two years.
  3. Good point. I had forgotten about that already.
  4. Charlotte defeats CMU by two, 77-75 in OT.
  5. Why did all these guys transfer out? Obviously they thought they'd never see the pitch. All weaker players than Holmes?
  6. Zach...why don't provide some useful information. How were these guys rated and what other offers did they have coming out of HS?? I'm no Zach when it comes to leg-work like this, but Dayne Crist was a 5-star QB Anthony McDonald was a 4-star LB Dan McCarthy was a 4-star DB Deion Walker was a 4-star WR Brandon Newman was a 4-star DT David Posluszny was a 3-star LB Lane Clelland was a 4-star OL Hafis Williams was a 3-star DT This is such an unconventional/bizarre situation that I don't even know what to think about it. [edit] I see that, no surprise, not only did Zach beat me to this, but was also much more thorough. And, my question, they'd all have to sit a year, right? This is weird.
  7. lilroodude is a quick learner!!
  8. The link doesn't work. Just tell us.
  9. Or Miami...Coles always has a tough squad. There are no easy teams this year in the East. How is BG this year??? BUGS gave Georgia, another SEC team, all that they could handle. 63-54.
  10. Like I said when I started this thread, unlike the Ianello threads, this one is just for fun. No one in their right mind would think they could do a better job than Porter. But have fun with this, if you'd do something differently, don't be afraid to point it out. I just think it's dissappointing that Holmes has not added as much to the team as I was expecting. And not personally having much knowledge of the beautiful game, I'm simply mystified.
  11. Another great video. We have a better marketing department than I was led to believe.. Good job. Ooooh, that video is indeed sweet. But, as far as "marketing" goes, who's going to see it unless they visit GoZips.com or search for it on youtube? Wonder if they're purchasing a few televised ads? We've got to place those videos in places where others, besides diehard Zips fans, will see them. I didn't find this video on youtube or gozips.com. It was on facebook and twitter. I found it through twitter which I retweeted to my 500+ followers. Ahhh. They're going facebook & twitter. Doesn't cost a dime & will probably reach more ppl in our target market than going with channels 3, 5 & 8 (old folks). But, yeah, I'm starting to show my age in not automatically thinking of facebook or twitter. Anymore, those outlets should be my first assumptions.
  12. +1. But these are interesting times. I've been a religious follower of UA basketball for about 20-years now, but the early-season success we experienced in beating a BCS team is uncharted waters for me. IIRC, we've always lost those early-season matchups. I'm still concerned about Valpo & Duquesne this weekend. I am new to internet communication lingo. What does IIRC mean?? IIRC: If I Remember Correctly (I learned of that abbreviation about a month ago - I googled it after seeing it posted on ZNO! )

  15. I know Holmes looked really good during his first game as a Zip (Columbus State?). But maybe he's a bit over his head at this level?
  16. Who outside of members of this message board thing he was the missing piece to the puzzle? I admit I thought he was going to have more of an impact than he did but I don't remember ever reading CP say anything of the sort. Well, okay, no one. But red herring. Go on...
  17. That's interesting insight. Actually, I've detected a lot of resentment towards Akron from the Canton Repository as well.
  18. We put so much absolutely deserved heat on iCoach and even some undeserved heat on KD. So, just for fun, I ask those of you with advanced soccer knowledge, put a little heat on Caleb Porter and how he hasn't effectively used Holmes. We had heard all along about how lethal a striker Holmes was and that he was the missing piece to this team's puzzle. What's happened? What's Caleb done wrong?! What does he have to change before the Northwestern game to get this team on a roll for the tourney?
  19. Are we signing a center? If not, shouldn't we be going after one? It'd be nice to give a "5" a year to develop, learn the system & relax on the bench while Zeke's a senior. If not, we're going to have a monster hole @ 5 after Zeke graduates. (Not that we'd not have huge shoes to fill anyway.)
  20. All of these are the painfully rare exceptions which prove the rule that Cleveland's media ignores Akron 99% of the time. When Akron gets between 3-5 minutes of coverage, from each major Cleveland television outlet -NBC, ABC, CBS & FOX- every night (regardless of merit, i.e., Browns, Indians, Cavs) for the next two generations (roughly 40 years) then we'll go ahead and call it even w/ the Cleveland media. Cleveland's media has had Akron by the balls for a looooong time now; literally a couple of generations. That's almost entirely devastating for the Akron community's personal identity, or "sense of place." And, IMO, I don't think the Cleveland media was dumb enough not to realize what they were doing; it was intentional. Fortunately, 6:00 local news broadcasts are for dinosaurs and are quickly becoming increasingly irrelevant to a community's identity formation.
  21. This is exactly, and tragically, correct. And this is why an Akron fan with even so much as an elementary ability to connect dots hates all-things Cleveland. Burn, Cleveland. Burn.
  22. Whooooah. K e n t looked goooooood, boy.
  23. I'm glad they didn't get much press. I actually dislike them just as much as Can't, and I'd like to think we have a better chance of gaining the northeast ohio fanbase. Aside from a good sized arena, there's nothing about them I can like. Although I feel like we will probably lose to them... Amen. Screw Cleveland State.
