Well, I'll bet they have, but I know what you mean.

If Coordinators are being considered as the next head coach
Blue & Gold replied to GJGood's topic in Akron Zips Football
Is that Coach Bud Foster or Commander William Riker? For a guy who has never had the guts to sit in the big chair, he has an interesting opinions about leading a program. Aww, snap! We don't have false visions of grandeur. Most of us, at least at this point, simply want to be competitive in the MAC and be bowl eligible. -
Gameday story from the ABJ. (George Thomas - is good ol' Tom Gaffney officially retired now?) Confirmed: both AA & Tree will suit up today. Lots of quotes from KD, who, of course, makes it sound like we'll get run out of the gym. Which we might. (AA still nursing his knee & not as explosive as he has been.)

I'd be extremely hesitant to hire a D-III HC to take over a D-I program (MUC's Kehres) largely because of the necessity of handling scholarships. Not that a D-III coach couldn't learn quickly, but, none-the-less, I'm tired of UA coaches learning on the job. However, what's the big deal about hiring a D-II HC as opposed to a D-IAA (FCS ) coach? Football is football, right? Just because the athlets are bigger/faster/stronger @ the D-I level than they are @ the D-II level, the strategy of the game is the same, right? The D-III & D-II players all know the game just as well as the D-I players. The playbooks are just as lengthy and complicated. The defensive schemes just as complex. Thus, with Paul Winters already having extensive experience recruiting D-I caliber players (being able to evaluate D-I talent), I don't see any risk at all in this hire. For those that played football at a higher level, or understand the X's & O's better than I do, what am I missing? Anything?

I heard this also, I guess it would be safe to say that is a good sign for his future? We've seen players get suspended for far less, so maybe in all reality the situation isn't as bad as it initially seemed. If what he takes away from this misadventure is that he is above it all, we still lose. Akron and Tree both need for him to grow up and live by the rules designed to protect him. Here is to hoping that a lesson was learned and we hear no more of late night adventures by Tree or any of his team mates. +1. As with AA, I hope, for Tree's sake (as well as the team's), that Tree is a bit embarrassed and rather contrite over letting the team, KD & himself down like this. Some embarrassment & contrition is usually a healthy sign that a lesson was learned. Go get 'em, Tree! We love ya! Oh, btw, I really do like Tree. Though I don't really know him, I introduced one of the middle school kids I work with to Tree @ the basketball tent before a football abomination & Tree was really cool to the kid. He seemed to enjoy the kids he was interacting w/. So, anyone who likes kids is cool in my book.

I hope we do not lose you...I think you are an astute fan and I enjoy your posts. +1. We need you, Hip!

Word is, from the "Tree" thread, that Tree will be back for the Middle Tennessee game. Big addition, Tree is, being our ony real "big" off the bench. WVU exposed our lack of depth in the frontcourt w/o Tree. Speaking of WVU exposing our lack of depth... how about the most important position on the court, PG. Is Rico good to go against MTSU? Again, man, what an unbelievably huge role AA fills on this team. Somewhat ironic that our team is indeed the deepest team - talent wise - I believe I've ever seen from the Zips. But the thing is, we are stocked with athletes, most suitable for the wing, and are still a bit thin in the frontcourt & awfully thin @ PG. Jeez, we're the Miami Heat of the NCAA.

What does that entail?

I like what I am seeing, but watching this game reveals how big of a jump it is from a D2 school to a D1A. This looks like a glorified D1 high school game. We should be happy the Zips didn't play either team this year. Sadly, I think you're right.

7-3 WSU @ the half.

I wondered how you had heard of an ogoh. Lord knows I hadn't. Wikipedia: "Ogoh-ogoh are statues built for the Ngrupuk parade, which takes place on the eve of Nyepi day in Bali, Indonesia." -
To whom? To most Zips fans, obviously. I've never seen the ZNO board light up like it did last Tuesday w/ all the Jim Tressel rumors. Maybe it as just the "savior complex" kicking in. Just because there is a mob, doesn't mean the mob is right. For sure. Just saying most Zips fans will be let down by almost anyone after having dreams of Tressel. I think Paul Winters could be great here.

Here is the link for today's Wayne State -vs- Minnesota Duluth game. Just click on the game & it'll take you to the live stream page. 1:00 p.m. [Edit]: You may want to keep in mind that Minn-Duluth is the #1 ranked team in the country, so Wayne State is the decided underdog. I guess Minn-Duluth is a powerhouse, so this may not be the best game to watch to get a first impression of a Paul Winters team.

We're lucky we didn't have to play either NIU or Toledo this year. The WMU game was abysmal enough.

When I heard the rumors I always figured it was just pot & that he just needed to grow up. Now it's obvious that he needed professional help.

Btw, it's 10:00 a.m. Saturday 12/3 & on Yahoo.com's homepage "Jim Tressel" is the #1 trending topic. Click "Jim Tressel" & the first two stories that pop up are related to him declining the UA offer. Idk what's up with that, being it's a few days after the fact.

Nice. -
I'm afraid, now that Jim Tressel has politely declined our offer, any other candidate is going to be a bit of a let down. I think Paul Winters could be very successful here.

It is a shame that The Sentinel writer lost his job at UA over the incident. However, I don't believe the article was ever posted on GoZips.com, like the writer of this piece believes. He states, "We have tracking statistics that show where the hits on our website come from and there is proof that thousands of hits on our website came via the University of Akron's website." He may be confusing ZipsNation.org with GoZips.com? They probably did receive thousands of hits from ZipsNation.org, but UA would have never put that on GoZips.com, right? Additionally, the more credible rumor has it that Tressel was at the JAR a good hour before the game, but never actually attended the game. Finally, not to be judgmental, but even if The Sentinel is correct, it's not a very well written piece. IMHO, that hurts their credibility right there. But it's rather clear Tressel was on campus a couple (few?) times over the past two weeks.
