  1. Yup. Get used to it. The Cleveland media purposely ignores any positive news coming out of Akron a.m.a.p. (As-Much-As-Possible). This isn't bitter hyperbole. This is a sadly literal truth. If you've been starved of Akron/UA Zips' television coverage coming out of the Cleveland-centric newscasts for as long as I have, you understand perfectly why Akron's homeboy LeBron James feels no loyalty to & no identification with the city up north. Go Akron! Go Zips! And for that matter, Go Heat!
  2. I also used to think that futbol was boring. I never played. However, I did play baseball, and it used to irk me when someone would say baseball was boring. I just knew they didn't really understand the sport very well. Once you understand a good baseball game, you realize that there is strategy behind every pitch selection. As I've begun to learn a little about futbol, I realize it's just like that. There is so much going on out there. And a good soccer match?! CRAZY!!! What an absolute rush! There is no sport as consistently... relentlessly... MERCILESSLY tense and stressful for the spectator than a good futbol match! I believe a good futbol match LITERALLY induces hypertension. No wonder fans chant & cheer throughout the entire course of the contest and absolutely explode on GOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLL!!! You've just gotta release that energy or you'll have a stroke!!! I'm truly just beginning to appreciate this heartwrenching/exhilarating sport which Europe - and most of the rest of the world - has loved for a long time now. The highs and lows of futbol are simply magnificent! This sport is like a drug! Great job Zips! You've made us all exceptionally proud!
  3. Thanks Tom! Here's another seemingly all-too-familiar quote from KD: ''He is way more coachable now. He still has moments where he gets emotional, but he has bought into what we are saying and what we are trying to do,'' Dambrot said. ''I think it helps that he is playing much more now. He feels no threat about playing time. He is more relaxed.'' I love KD. But any casual Zips' observer can now see this as a recurring theme: Jimmy Conyers... Brett McClanahan... Nik Cvetinovic. I hope KD begins to see the pattern here.
  4. What a killer schedule they've assembled! To be 4-2 with a schedule like this is impressive. From today's ABJ: "The Owls, who are members of the Atlantic 10 Conference, have a 6-2 record against a rigorous early season schedule. Temple has beaten the likes of Seton Hall (62-56), Georgia (65-58), Maryland (64-61) and Georgetown (68-65). The victory over the ninth-ranked Hoyas came Thursday night. Its losses have been to California (57-50) and Texas A&M (54-51)." Gonna be a tough one today. Go Zips!!!
  5. I hope it's not Ricky Powers. He's such a valuable mentor for the Buchtel kids.
  6. Report back in fellas, how were the crowds, environment, service, etc. at the two establishments?
  7. What an amazing game! Futbol gives me hypertension! Props to the socceroos!!! Go Zips!
  8. Ah. Thank you for the clarification. That makes much more sense.
  9. Correct. Saying "they" when referring to the Can't fan is being far too generous.
  10. What Michigan is saying prior to the match
  11. I see they beat the University of Charleston. No, I see they destroyed the University of Charleston 118-76. Isn't Charleston a D-1 school?
  12. Since they're supporting the Zips, anyone who's 21 or older should go to either Tap House or Barley House & reciprocate the support if at all possible. Or any other area bar/pub/restaurant. Let's stimulate the economy a bit.
  13. I was going to post this under the "UA in the News" thread but couldn't locate it. If a moderator would like to merge it... Good to see that UA has plans for former rehabilitation hospital Edwin Shaw. I grew up not far from Edwin Shaw & used to volunteer some time there. I hope UA goes forward with this potentiality and Edwin Shaw doesn't sit vacant for long. Man, what would this city be without UA?! I shudder at the thought.
  14. Ditto. I was unable to attend the Miami and Buffalo games. Though I did listen online!
  15. Lolla did a lot for the community when he was here. He's a good man. I don't think he was happy about leaving Akron, but felt it was a move he had to make for professional reasons. Having said that, I would none-the-less beat UNC in the title game. We're familiar with the Tar Heels. I'd be much more anxious facing the Cardinals.
  16. Meyer resigns... again.
  17. If there is a playoff, the bowls will come to an end within 10 years of the playoff system starting. There will be no interest in them. Neutral site games are not realistic for a football playoff system because most of the alumni of any school can't afford to travel to more than one bowl game a year, let along 2-4 playoff games. The stadiums would have a lot of empty seats as it is hard to find 85,000 fans in any city willing to go watch a game they have no interest in. Speaking of neutral site games, I see the PAC 10 is going to play their championship game at one of the schools in the championship. I think this is a great idea and something the MAC should look at doing again. Nothing says "small time" like the thousands and thousands of empty seats in Detroit. Play at a smaller stadium and the empty seats won't look so bad. If the PAC 10 can do it, the MAC can do it. In the above brackets, there are only three games there that would be worth the time watching. The first round wouldn't be much different than the first round of the NCAA basketball tournament. They should play the MAC Championship game @ Fawcett Stadium in Canton.
  18. How the Big East has fallen. They have the Big East champion (UConn) slotted @ #14 - just one notch higher than the MAC champion (Miami O.) @ #15.
  19. Not 100% sure if all editions are the same, but mine has a large picture of Meves (featured image on the page) making one of the PK saves along with the article on the front page of the sports section. That's great! The Akron Beacon is doing a much better job of covering Akron. One or two years ago the lead article on the front page of the Akron Beacon Journal's sports section would have been a preview of today's Cleveland Brown's game. Honestly. Did we get mentioned on any of the evening newscasts last night? I know, I know... I ask for the moon.
  20. The ABJ has some great shots from yesterday's Akron v. Cal game. Picture #1 is an Instant Classic. And notice how Darren Mattocks looks to be getting his nose broken in picture #7! SocceRoo photos
  21. Unfortunately, Buchtel lost to Columbus Bishop Watterson by one point today - 13-12. Tough loss.
  22. I did not hear the post-game interview so thank you for the update. I hadn't hear that Zeke was under the weather so was wondering why he didn't see more PT than he did. We really could have used more of the big fella than we were able to get today. We were fortunate to win that game without him.
  23. The announcers were incredibly high on Teague. Apparently he's been a stud in the state title games (all of which Ursuline has won) for the past three years. So I also jumped over to Rivals.com and was shocked/disappointed/perplexed that, according to Rivals, we haven't even offered him.
  24. Thank you
