1. Actually, I echo Dr. Z's sentiments in another thread: This tournament is where we belong. The competition in this tourney matches the level of our program right now. UWGB is a perfect matchup - talent wise - for our team.
2. He's "banged up."
3. [quote name='Hilltopper' date='Mar 17 2010 Its 65 and sunny. Its St Pattys day. Too many other options for Joe Fan. 2250 Att. 2250 if we're lucky. I'm here early & they've got the north GA section closed. Wise move.
4. [quote name='Captain Kangaroo' date='Mar 17 2010 Other than CSU and Butler, no Horizon team interests me as an opponent. My thoughts, exactly. And since we've already got CSU on the schedule... I think the single-day, single-venue concept is intriguing. But I'd be more excited about this sort of challenge were it against, as was noted above, the A-10 or the MVC.
5. I voted men's hockey. I'm not a big hockey fan, but it is currently the 4th major sport in our country. The sport I believe we'd have the most success with, however, is wrestling. The wrestling talent in the area is outstanding. I believe UA could build a powerhouse program. But... It's not as much a spectator sport as hockey. The sport I'm personally most interested in is men's lacrosse. I know that both Walsh and Malone are putting together lacrosse club teams. Does UA have a lacrosse club team? FUN sport to both play and watch!
6. Now THAT is a Division I college basketball schedule. That is a respect-garnering schedule (and I'm not referring to the NCAA or NIT selection committees. I'm thinking of casual Akron-area basketball fans.) Though the JAR actually works to repel casual fans, real, bonafide D-1 teams coming to the JAR on a regular basis couldn't hurt attendance or interest in the program. I just don't know why it seems to be rocket science that weed to bring beatable teams with name recognition to the JAR. These teams, just like UA, are searching for games. Forget Kansas, Duke & UCLA. Bring on GOOD mid-major programs from recognized mid-major conferences and sprinkle in a few road games against the Cincy's of the world.
7. [quote name='vmd9' My favorites were the gold, they seemed to be the most unique and a cheering section of all gold is pretty sweet. +1
8. That website is absolutely amazing! Lol. I can't believe you found that. It makes all the sense in the world, but I had no idea anything like that existed. LOTS of great options right at our fingertips. Have we been sold a bill of goods on how difficult it is for us to schedule? Anyway, that's beside the point. I could waste hours on that website putting together various dream schedules.
9. [quote name='MDZip' I got one too which is odd because I am not a basketball season ticket holder and live 350 miles away. At least they are trying to market (maybe to other than season ticket holders?) So... you gonna come?
10. "I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse, than a St. Francis in the JAR." -Bob Brown, The Unit
11. Thanks for that quote, Captain. I did not hear the postgame interview so did not hear that quote. You are right; very, very intruiging. At least we have a coach who - even though we've made the conference tourney title game four years in a row - is not satisfied with where the program is at presently and publically admitted as much. Though I sometimes have wondered if our relatively weak schedule may have had to do with the nice bonus KD receives with a 20-win season, quotes like this reassure me that we have a coach that wants to put Akron basketball on the map as badly as I want to see it there. It's going to be fun watching the program's developments over this off season.
12. Great game. Congrats to OU. They played a very good game. These were three of the most exciting games I've seen in a long time. Thank you, Zips, for the hard work & for all the excitement!
13. Lord have mercy! And it's difficult to see on my BlackBerry, but is he rockin' a mohawk?! Sweet!
14. I loved how Frenchy was so dejected when EMU hit their 3 with about 6 seconds to go, only to be absolutely beside himself 5.5 seconds later when Steve hit his bomb! Absolutely CLASSIC!
15. Why on earth is this not on FSO? They've got Columbus freaking Bluejackets hockey on!!! W...T...F.And on SportsTime Ohio? HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING?!?!?!?!There are not words...
16. [quote name='GameChngr44' 13 points, 9 rebounds, 6 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 to and 1 foul..enough said!!!And that against a very athletic and very big EMU frontcourt!Way to go big man!!!
17. On the postgame show Frenchy said that he shouldn't be suspended since the T's didn't involve "fisticuffs" (sp?).
18. Wadzip, there actually is a good-sized lake in Lake Township. Congress Lake - with Congress Lake C.C. - is, I believe, where Lake got it's name.
19. I saw more dunks tonight than I've ever seen in a high school game - and all by a single player... JaKarr Sampson. But my hero for the night is Kenmore 5'8" PG Antonio Hearn - best all-around player on the floor. He almost led Kenmore to the come-from-behind upset win. And he's only a SOPHOMORE!
20. Wow, JaKarr is an absolute dunking machine; one of those players who wants to humiliate you by posterizing you. Wow. If I might be so bold as to critique his game, he does need to work on his post moves. But he can handle the ball & runs the floor like a guard. What a player. And, btw, Antonio Hearn is one of the best little point guards I've seen in quite a while - not that I watch a ton of high school basketball - and he's only a sophomore! Reminds me of Antwan Lavendar.
21. JaKarr had 3 powerful dunks in the first quarter.Kenmore's Hearn brothers are great players also though. Lightning quick!
22. I could be wrong, but I believe I see both Matt Futch and Willie McGee's older brother assistant coaching for St.V/M. Man, if there's any school with an inside track to signing JaKarr it's the Zips.JaKarr is just as tall as Futch (they're eye to eye as they just gave each other a 'man-hug'). But he looks about 150 lbs less than Futch. Lol.
23. I'm at the Buchtel v Marlington playoff game. St.V/M plays Kenmore next.Looking over @ St.V/M, man, Jakarr is a man among boys. Watching him walk by blew me away. He's definitely got a big-time frame. As far as the eyeball-test goes, he's probably the best looking high school player I've seen since Raymar Morgan. Definitely a physical specimen. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of game he has.
24. One of the very best movies I've seen in a very long time. Even if I wasn't a Zips/LeBron/Akron-in-general fan, I would have still found the movie to be excellent.I saw the movie @ the theater and subsequently purchased the movie the day it was released on dvd.
25.

Actually, the "real" Reghi is pretty much the same.

OZoner, didn't you have a Rhegi story you were going to share with us?
