I can already feel the creativity flowing throughout the MAC for some darn good signs at Ohio U's away games...http://www.newsnet5.com/sports/9693014/detail.html

I think the home opener will sell out. Not getting complacent or anything, but if the U starts putting some money into advertising, reminding that swath of blue and gold that showed up twice in Detroit of what happened last year, we should be able to hit 22k easy. I wouldnt be making this prediction if the RB was still a 30k+ capacity.

Do students count? Anyone know?Oh...and I was crunching some numbers:2005: 10,892 per game2004: 15,849 per game2003: 14,951 per game2002: 11,599 per gameA little disheartening when you look at our first ever MAC championship season being our lowest attendence in the last four years, even to that dismal 2002 season. The showings vs. Penn St and NC State are crucial for our attendence for the rest of the season.

ACL and MCL...might be more than 12 month recovery time. Man, that's awful.
-
I've heard Jimmy is good...but is he that good? Has anyone out there actually seen him on the court? Just curious...
-
ZIP plays plenty of commercials...dunno if they ever play any ones for the U. Don't think I've ever even heard a DJ mention a sports score...

Wow. My thoughts exactly. The odds of this happening...slim to none. I too was at just about every home game (missed a couple because of working in retail and having some evening shifts) and attended 3 away games. I however did get into the lower seats vs Can't state and the VAST majority of the folks that I was jammed in with, I dont remember seeing at any of the other games. It would be nice for some sort of 'priority' seating for those who support the team all year long. Luckily this year I will have no evening shifts...which means no missed games (at least for basketball). Stil gotta switch some stuff for weekends so I can hit all the football games. Anyone looking for a good manager, 5+ years of experience? Have a job that's Monday thru Friday for said manager and love the Zips? I'm your guy! GO ZIPS!

screwin around on myspace...some of the football players list that they play football for THE Universtity of Akron, yes with the THE capitalized. Also, I like U of A, not as much as The University of Akron, but U of A is ite with me.

GOOD ARTICLE TOP TO BOTTOM...THE HIGHLIGHTS:The favorites from among the non-AQs to crash the BCS party:1.TCU2. Fresno State3. Bosie State4. Utah5. BYU6. ToledoLong Shots: Akron, Houston, Marshall, Nevada, UTEP (EDITORIAL NOTE: Marshall is Big East now, so aren't they BCS?) 6. Upsets of the year Akron over North Carolina State, Sept. 9. Doesn't anyone else see this coming? The MAC is poised to pull several upsets this season with Kansas, Northwestern, Minnesota and Boston College coming to MAC stadiums. This one is in Raleigh. The MAC pulls at least one earth-shaker every year. The Rockets (think he meant Zips here) are arguably the class of the league. N.C. State is a mid-level ACC team with a ripped, pumped-up coach on the hot seat. Note to The Chest: Get to know Luke Getsy. The Full Article: http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/9595089Oh, and not only will you all be able to find the semi-official Zips Tailgate from my ZN.ORG banner, but I just got my brand new AKRWDY license plates. I know you're all jealous.GO ZIPS...18 More days...

Akron U bugs the hell out of me...but I grew up in Painesville and hadn't heard of UA till High School (late 90s) and UA was UA at that point (though the bowling balls in Gardner still said 'AU'). As far as I can tell, folks that have grown up with the University and knowing of it, some are still slow at switching over from Akron U. University of Akron just sounds so much better...

I wouldn't worry too much about the name of the section...you'll still hear the chants. It seems like every once in a while they come up with something stupid to "name" student sections. The precursor to the AK-Rowdies for basketball was "Zips Zoo." Similar? I think so! We do have that foundation now, bottom line. And if we keep winning and keep building dorms (on campus students tend to be more active in athletics events, being a commuter school in the pas HAS hurt the Zips support) and you will continue to see the excitement and participation expand, no matter what they name the section. GO ZIPS and see you Sept 23 from the front row of the 'Zoo. GO ZIPS!

i have an idea! I have a banner we stole...er borrowed... from the fence from our opening home game a few years back. The back is blank. Perhaps my artistic ability will show through and I shall create a Zipsnation.org banner on the blank side and hang it for all to see as they walk to the RB from the lots outside the open end of the stadium. Just an idea, can't hurt i guess.

Who is going to tailgate before the PSU game?
RowdyZip replied to danalleman's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'll be tailgating...around campus...IN AKRON. GO ZIPS! -
Is that endzone really "condemned" ? I thot those tarps were there just cuz of low attendence, trying to keep people bunched on the sidelines. Hmmm...
-
Hold on...K ent's gonna win 6 to 8 games this year... if we can consistently win MAC championships over the next 5 years or so and win the vast majority of our bowl games (average 8-10 wins a season) MAYBE by the time the new stadium is built the Zips will come up in these conversations...
-
Zips finish 6th in mens (despite winning the most championships league-wide). Our second highest showing ever (2004-5, 4th), and Zip ladies finish 10th, up 2 spots from last year. Looks like this is the year we beat that hump and finally pull down one of those 'lil trophies.

Lindy's 2006 National College Football Preview
RowdyZip replied to OldZipFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
W-O-W  WOW! I'm optimistic about this coming season...but wow...I'll be feelin even better once I see some previews on ESPN/SI/Sportsline.com with similiar rankings. But for now, heck yeah! GO ZIPS! -
Fox Sports 119 teams in 119 days football preview for Can't.Favorite quote: "Even with all the concerns, Can't State plays in the MAC East, by far the easier of the two divisions with games against Ohio and Buffalo to offset the big boys like Bowling Green, Miami, and Akron." <--never thought i'd see the day we'd be one of the "big boys." Here's to moving further upward! Looking forward to football season while not wishing the summer away...sometimes i wish football started in june...
