  1. I believe that's all land that Akron City Hospital bought up for future use. Even if it was available, terrible location...no retail of any kind over there and that neighborhood behind the hospital is terrible. I lived there for a couple years while in school. Edit: After a quick check of public records, it's all City owned. Still don't like the location.
  2. I got a room at The Met Troy (Seems nice, 3 stars) for $45 plus tax via Travelocity Top Secret Hotels. It's about 10 minutes south of Auburn Hills.
  3. In plus two or three more. Got nose bleed seats from ticketmaster for $62 after fees. Hoping we can move closer to Zips sections once all the UM fans leave.
  4. I would've thought they would, but seeing the last offer of student tickets and still no rumblings about a bus for fans OR students, I'm guessing we're on our own because of the shorter trip. I'm not concerned about the distance, I'm concerned about the tip time. The game will likely end around midnight, putting drivers back in OH by about 3:30AM. Maybe a last second hotel nearby is the solution.
  5. Does anybody know if there is an alumni or fan charter bus happening? I have a couple friends that won't commit unless we can pay for a ride up/back? Maybe someone looking to carpool out there?
  6. On this note, was anyone else surprised to have Cooper on the all tournament team? When is the vote held for that? He's killed Akron in the past, and I wouldn't say a thing about his performance Saturday until about the last 4 minutes because I expected him to go off...but the guy played in two tournament games and was completely absent in one of them. Then again...who else makes all tournament at PG over him?
  7. Agree with this 100%. If Tree can develop a consistent mid-range jump shot, he'll be unstoppable. Opponents try clamp down hard now trying to stop his post game, imagine if they had to respect a jumper and play tighter away from the hoop.
  8. Ever-so-odd how this thread keeps shrinking.
  9. http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/287744/3/...arrested-jailed This story makes it sound much more ominous, as if APD delivered then returned to see what was happening.
  10. Right. Feds trump state laws, but still, no matter how you feel about pot, there should probably be more consistency in the laws on the books.
  11. I think the saddest part of all of this is that the kid, if proven guilty, has ruined his life over something that is legal in several other states.
  12. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_new...on-drug-charges 5lbs and at a residence on Dartmore in Akron. Not looking good at all. Hanging out in the ghetto...5 POUNDS! POUNDS!!!
  13. For some perspective, a 3rd degree felony trafficking requires 1-5kg of the drug. That's 2.2-11lbs.
  14. Game over.
  15. Interesting that the prices went back up $10 after dropping $40? I wish they'd set it, thought I suppose they're only selling for two more weeks.
  16. Way to go, X! Anyone want to complain about free throws? Teams combine for 19/41 from the line.
  17. I'll be at Barley House, yes I know the "watch party" is at Johnny Js, but Barley is across the street from work. I'll have a few Zips fans with me, hope some other folks will join.
  18. Walsh's tweet was hardly a shot, it was an apt observation.
  19. Additionally, stranger than all of the above is the fact that we seem to nail a much higher percentage when teams are trying to extend the game. Goes to show, it's 90% mental.
  20. A lot will depend not only on the W/L of this game, but the margin. If the Zips can somehow dominate start to finish and win by 20+, I think we make both polls. A close win, and I think we still hit the coaches poll at 25. A loss...and...well...all is lost.
  21. We hosted Temple a couple years back. I believe it was part of the deal being football-only. I'm sticking to the notion that there is zero chance of Akron (or OU for that matter) getting a 1st round matchup with OSU. The Buckeyes have too much clout in athletics and too much to lose by facing an in-state school with the talent to potentially beat them. Hell, I'd be shocked if the MAC team was on the same side of the bracket.
  22. The JAR is not a terrible place. It needs help. The building size is good. There's a lot of wasted space in the lower bowl. Reconfigure the stands to wrap around at one end with locker room entrances at the other. Get rid of the track and place the concourse behind/underneath the seats upstairs. Make all seating permanent/fixed. Update the downstairs entry/concessions from the old ugly brown brick. A 6,000 fixed seat facility in the heart of campus wouldn't be all bad. And if the seating is configured correctly, could become an even louder and more imposing place for opponents. I forgot how fantastic that joint is when it's full. The last few games have been fun and LOUD. Invite your friends for Friday. I'm up to about a dozen people (many of which have been intrigued by my facebook posts and the national attention), all coming with me on Friday. SELL THE PLACE OUT!
  23. A strong win on the deuce Friday and the Zips will crack the coaches poll. Impressive gains.
  24. Zips up to 32nd from 37th in the New AP Poll Also 30th in New ESPN Power Rankings
  25. Shows you how subjective these polls are. He moved us from 24 to 21 after narrow victories in which we trailed most of the game vs Miami and CMU and then moves us down after games we won by an average of 12.5 and led virtually wire to wire against better teams.
