Ugh. I was at this game while visiting my brother in Charlottesville in 2004. I talked us up something fierce and then had to beg him to stay past halftime. Saturday will reveal a lot. Is the offense really THAT bad or was the OK defense THAT good. YSU had no trouble piling up points at Pitt.

Just called...was told "most likely" the game will not be on at Johnny J's. If anyone else wants to call: 330-865-6504. Anyone else have any ideas to see this? I don't have cable TV, but I'd gladly contribute a couple bucks. Edit: Guy named Graham answered and said they usually don't do pay per view stuff since it costs them thousands because they have to buy for every TV. Is this game under $10 for local providers? I'd think it'd be considerably cheaper.

I always have a difficult time weighing my preseason optimism vs reality. This season is no different. I have zero belief in our ability to put points on the board. And I mean zero. I think the only way we have a shot in this is if the def/ST gets us a couple scores. PROVE ME WRONG, OFFENSE! Official prediction: Zips Def comes out of the gate strong, O can't stay on the field long enough. Close score at the half, but defense fades in the 2nd half. Oklahoma 38 Akron 10

I don't know if it's been announced officially, but Johnny J's in the valley will have the game. Zips FB video passed me the info via twitter. I might try Dr. Z's idea with my chromecast...

So I guess the U couldn't find an "official" bar willing to shell out and show the game? I've tried multiple times to get answers from athletics and no one will even reply. The "video" link on the schedule page goes to the sooner sports ppv. There's no preview listed. We're 5 days from kickoff and there's nothing. These are the frustrating things that need to change. P.S. I think its a ridiculous joke that the game is ppv anyways.

Does anyone know if there are still any lot 9 passes available? I'm only going to make the first game (maybe 2nd one too). Would love to set up in 9. Edit: answered my own question. Ticket rep says lot 9 passes are for season ticket holders only. I didn't renew this year (have a new Zip arriving around 10/1).

Good news is the Suckeyes open on Labor Day. Bad news is I still have no clue whom, if anyone locally, will have the game on. I've tweeted and facebooked the Zips Football account a few times with no response. These are the things that frustrate me. We're about two weeks from the game and zero peeps from UA how we can see our team.

Random thought: rumor is the team wasn't told until the decision was announced today. Could this have possible repercussions on recruiting in other minor sports? I figure most kids know football and basketball aren't going anywhere (even if some folks think so) but what about other fringe sports? If I'm a track athlete or softball player, this has to go in the back of my head.

Tom Wistrcill Resigns. Larry Williams hired.

I'd have to say, looking at the position he took, that he saw the writing on the wall and wasn't going to be renewed. -
I beg to differ on the taxes. These guys are full of crap and will never make anything other than destroying what was left of that stadium. Also...if the NFL can gain nonprofit status...
-
Well there you go. I suppose Team 1 could file for nonprofit status just the same. It is legal in Ohio for non profits to turn a profit. There's some loopholes these guys could work through, but I don't see any of it ever happening.
-
As soon as I read "not for profit" next to the supposed football tenant, my first thought was that they'll be applying for property tax exemption. While I don't think it can be applied retroactively (property taxes are paid one year in aarrears in Ohio), it certainly would make things manageable going forward. As it stands right now, according to public records, they are only behind the first half of 2014 taxes ($38,753.18) with 2nd half coming due in July. The question is whether or not a tenant could qualify a property for exemption. I'm not sure on that aspect of the law. If it requires the team to own the facility, they're screwed.

Good point. The subjective calls are the nature of the beast in any officiating. It certainly speaks to me that the trailing official (on a fast break), and not the baseline official, blew his whistle.
-
That's fair. The only angle given on ESPN was from behind the play and it didn't at all appear excessive, but a view from the side of the hoop would probably provide a completely different perspective. Just the same, one of those instances, in my opinion, where its better for an official to not affect the outcome of a game. A T on a dunk is a very subjective call (as evidence by varying opinions on the Zeke dunk). Stinks for the kid even worse.

I saw via ESPN Facebook posting that CCCHS lost the state championship, in part, due to a (bogus) technical called on Lillard for hanging on the rim after a dunk. It reminded me of that Zeke fast break dunk a couple of years ago. Even though there was no one underneath him, he needed to hang on to the rim because of his forward motion. Would've ended up flat on his back if he just let go. But I digress, the tech call and conversion of free throws allowed the game to go to OT where CCCHS lost by 4.

Zips vs Buffalo 3-14-15 (MAC Tourney Rnd 4)
RowdyZip replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Line has pushed out to Buffalo -4.5. Vegas has lost faith in our Zippers. -
Aaaaaaaaand block #2. Feel free to add your opinions to open threads...no need to create a new one with the exact same stuff following every game. Thanks and GO ZIPS!

Zips vs. Can't 3-12-15 (MAC Tourney Rnd 3)

It was one of the ugliest and most wonderful games I've ever watched. Indescribably happy to send them home. We won shooting about 20% on 3s. Have a nice off season, K-ent -

We have the best coaching staff in the conference, hands down. Sure,it's up to the guys to execute, but the staff lets them know they OWN Cleveland. Unreal. -

Bingo. Only route to the NIT is at-large, and that's not happening. Zips will play postseason, but its either the Big Dance or the tiny polka. -
That dunk, to me, was surprising. Not because it occurred, we know he's capable, but how effortless it looked. I think Reggie takes a big step forward next year.

I don't see any plausible way that the Zips make the NIT. Its all (NCAA) or nothing (CIT/CBI). If we win the next two and lose saturday, our RPI is still in the triple digit range.
