  1. Was unaware Detroit had a solid squad this year. That'll be a tough roadie, its a shame its a wednesday night.
  2. This is probably a stretch, but does anyone else remember a couple days before the "Decision" debacle that LeBron was around town shooting video in various places in Akron (including St Vs). Could this video have been in planning since before LeBron "suddenly" made his decision at the last moment? Still a good commercial, no matter how you swing it. I think they voice his legitimate opinion, but can you honestly think of a more hated athlete in the NBA? I think he's going to receive a LOT of boos...more than just Cleveland.
  3. 0-12 COMBO BREAKER! lol, someone brought up politics in this thread... and this is mine. First off, the "slow downward spiral" is debatable. I mean, I actually tend to agree with you, just because of the feel of things that I got off being a fan of the team through those years, but those records show some ups and downs and overall remain marginally average. 0-12 is a completely new ballpark... it's not a "downward spiral", it's an instantaneous thundering thud. What an ignorant cartoon! 0-12 will happen, not because of coaching and not because of talent. 0-12 will happen because these are kids that don't care (whether we believe they should or not).
  4. Ianello and Porter to Appear on Monday's Zips Live Ahhh...classic, our model coach and our anti-coach all in one show. Let us hope it's split 70-30 in favor of soccer. I've heard some rumors "from very reliable sources" that Coach I has created some unfriendly situations with his fellow UA coaches, including Caleb and our #1 Mens soccer team. I wonder if animosity is detectable over the radio? I'll be listening.
  5. "UBoob" made me chuckle.
  6. Well, I was removed (voluntarily) from today's game and it was the best decision of my Zips life. i was called a lewd name by a fellow Zips "fan" and responded with another offensive word. This was my fault as I should've been the bigger man. The saving grace is, I have no desire to enter Infocision again this year with my $300 of season tickets. My remaining tickets will be in the mail to Youtube Tom Monday morning. I will NOT be renewing, regardless of the last 4 games. Tom, enjoy my seats. You are an embarrassment to our fans and our university.
  7. You might be onto something, even if it's only for entertainment value. I'm in! That wont happen. And here's why: Coach I has no marbles. I watched Major League 3: Back to the Minors last night on Netflix. An underated movie, despite a poor followup performance by Taka.
  8. Rivals has 1 Akron 2 Ohio 3 Miami 4 Can't 5BG 6 Buffalo It's a featureless boring, unresearched article (as usual), and I can't post a link because I'm on my phone. It does say OU has more upside, but the Zips are the "safe pick" as conference champs. Curiously, the only Zip on their All-MAC teams is B Mcknight as a 2nd team forward. Anyone know whwn MAC media day is?
  9. Your name is Rob.
  10. Honestly, this is one of my biggest issues. I better see something in the mail trying to convince me to stay a season ticket holder. With the things that were mentioned above making fans feel unappreciated plus the on-the-field product right now, I'm not sure if even a price-freeze would get me to stay on board(the tickets are scheduled to go UP after the initial 2-year price break for pre-ICS season ticket holders). I was one of the fans (along with a large tailgate contingent of younger "regulars" that were pseudo booted from lot 9. I shouldn't take it personally, but I do. We decided to not renew our passes when that news was announced about the "donor lot." Subsequently, a lot of folks were bumped up to lot 9, and we were relegated to the "party" lot in 34. It's a ghost town. I'm about fed up for now, and I may just drop off the football roll call and spend that money on soccer and basketball. At least I'll see some winning.
  11. Wow. What a bunch of oversensitive and overconfident whiners. They one-upped us by beating a (worse) Big Ten team on the road last night. Minnesota is terrible They won't win a conference game. They also lost to a 1AA at home. We're clearly intentionally drawing the ire of the extensive NIU fan base by celebrating the MAC championship win of 05 on Saturday. A lot of them expect their team to "run up" the score because of it. Problem is, they're not that good. The confidence is funny, because it's exactly how I felt a couple years back after seeing Dennis Kennedy cross the goal line at NC State as time expired. I won't predict a win, but it'll be a good game. I'd sure take Akron and the points (14). And just for good measure...
  12. We had a chance to be in the game, in the 4th quarter, at a Big Ten school. That's an improvement. We matched up well in the post game stat sheet with Indiana, including time of possession. Also an improvement. If we can put one or two more plays together (or stops such as that 2nd and 30 situation), then we have a real chance to win that game. There's absolutely no reason why Akron can't beat a mediocre NIU team at home for homecoming.
  13. I compare it to a High School kid that got de-pantsed in front of the student body at a pep rally. I'd be too embarrassed to say much if I were coach I...
  14. Line says Kentucky -24.5 right now, if I were a bettin' man (which I am), I'd take that one in a heartbeat. Unless the score is 24-0, Kentucky covers that.
  15. Well played. Thanks for the chuckle. is there an exchange program so i can get a soccer ticket for my 3 football tix? It's only fair...
  16. Tailgated with some nice folks that made the trip from NC. Had to hurry to the car to avoid the embarassment that is this football team. That was a nice handshake and hug Tom and Rob. Yep, we saw it. Wonder if my boss would do that for me if I caused an epic failure and embarrassment. We see where the loyalties lie...hopefully an intelligent man like Dr. Proenza does too.
  17. i predict that lot 34 sucks at tailgating. Where is the party?
  18. I harbor no ill will towards the basketball team. In fact, I may still renew my season tickets. However, I'm quickly beginning to harbor ill will towards my University and that's a bad thing. I've calmed down considerably since yesterday, but am still beyond upset with the "preparations" that this athletics department undertook. I love UA, I love the Zips. I HATE what has been done so far by this regime. I just can't understand the gouging of those of us that are here to support this school. Those of us who show up every game, that renew tickets to see a struggling program, that attempt to bring friends, family and co-workers into this fanbase. I didn't go into the stadium yesterday expecting a miracle. I did go in expecting to see a team prepared to play a football game, not one with ridiculous penalties, boring play calls, and overall frustratingly awful ball. Throw in the fact that after a 3-9 season, these geniuses tried (and failed) to make lot 9 a "donor" lot, jacked up the prices of parking passes, jacked up the prices of "dedicated tailgate lots," jacked up the GA price for a ticket, and did not even make an effort to get people to come to this game. Though, that last one may be the brightest of the decisions made by these fools. If I were a casual fan and showed up to that game, I would not be coming back, not for a long time. K-ent outdrew us for a 1AA, for s*it's sake. I can't be thrown in that group that thinks we need to drop ticket prices down to rock bottom to get people in the gates, but you sure as heck don't jack up prices for a team that hasn't had a winning season since 2005. I don't care if we built Cowboy Stadium, a beautiful facility for games does not make for good football, nor does it make for higher prices for bad football.
  19. Ok. That made me chuckle out loud, despite the bad mood. I'll see all you other 45 faithful in the stands next week. It's our best chance at a win. The quality of the opponent will make it look like the team took a huge leap next week. Then it will be back to reality. So you're saying Gardner Webb is worse than Ken.tucky? Talk about a huge leap.
  20. Ok. That made me chuckle out loud, despite the bad mood. I'll see all you other 45 faithful in the stands next week. It's our best chance at a win.
  21. It is irrational to expect a coach to turn around a team in a single game. True. It is not irrational to expect a team to be prepared to play that first game. It is NOT irrational to expect your University to not squeeze every cent out of those of us that ARE loyal to the program year in and year out. It is also not irrational to stop paying for a product that is a poor investment. Like my 3 season tickets.
  22. Here's what I saw today: A respectable defense and an abysmal piss-poor excuse for an offense. Zach said it right, ABYSMAL on EVERY level. Execution? HORRID. I've never seen so many offensive penalties in my life. It was the same unprepared bull**it that saw from JD's staff. Positive? Only a couple sideways passes. Tom W should be gone now. It looks like he (as well as a lot of us here, myself included) figured the buzz of the new season and coach would be enough to fill that beautiful stadium. Tom, YOU'RE PAID TO KNOW MORE THAN US HERE ON ZIPSNATION. It's embarrassing, for myself, the school and for what Dr. Proenza is trying to do for this University. I talk with co-workers all week about how much fun the game is, and how we always "have a chance" to exceed expectations. What does our new AD do? FAIL to market an opening game against a BCS squad. FAIL to allow my fellow tailgaters to renew our passes in lot 9 over a veiled threat of minimum donations FAIL to encourage apathetic Akronites to come back to a game by GOUGING them $10 to park a car in a "Tailgate Lot." Hey Tom, I will NOT be renewing my season tickets next year. Thanks for making me come to my senses. I will drive down early (early enough to avoid the gouging) to tailgate for the game and have a good time, but I will no longer wasted my hard-earned money on that worthless bull*hit. Down the road, put a quality product on the field and I may come back, but until then, you and your p*ss poor team can enjoy the other 3,000 people that show up to the games. Beating the arses of sorry K-ent is not enough. I'm fed up. Fed up to the point that I'm considering staying home for basketball season as well.
  23. Not speaking of TWC, but TW...he should be done here. We'll top 15k AIS (ASSES IN SEATS) if we're lucky. Horrible, poorly marketed and squarely on the shoulders of the AD. Oh, and a 15 person deep line at the north ticket purchase gate.
  24. Walked up at lunch today from work. I was unimpressed. It's not done either...unless they're leaving s**tty bare concrete floors. Poor selection too...no better than the bookstore if you were hoping otherwise. That being said, they at least had female football jerseys so my wife finally could get her gift.
  25. 27,230 OPTIMISM! It's still preseason.
