Akron Zips vs Syracuse Orange Prediction Thread
RowdyZip replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
Barley house does have direct tv and the game, and with the timing of the suckeye game, we decided to head up there. The more, the merrier (and more tvs). -
Pure rumor. If you're on facebook, search for him. Status updated yesterday says, "Great practice!" or something along those lines. God bless the internet!

A few weeks back I was going to get some tickets to the Zips/OSUcks match. Upon finding out it was a sellout, Mrs RowdyZip and I decided to take a trip downtown and give OBC another chance at serving us and to check out the Aeros in game 3 of the EL Championship series(OBC was miserable, but that's a different story entirely). Who did I see sitting at a large table in the center of OBC? Non other than the Suckeye Futbol squad. I...however...am much more humble than you, Zipsrifle. And you know what Mamma said..."If you can't say anything nice..."and I KNOW I wouldn't have been able to say something nice.

Rodgers injury was the only positive on the game, he was killing us with his stupid play in the first. Fumbling on the goaline, interceptions, just stupid football. After this post .. you ought to take a week off from the Nation. What an embarrassment.Go Zips!+1That's pretty sick stuff. I honestly find it to be a shame, it seems like with Nicely in there, maybe the coaching staff could've implemented a wrinkle or two with Rodgers for the rest of the year. I find it sad that you could ever consider an injury to someone on your team to be a positive. Heck, I even feel bad when K-ent players get hurt. I guess some folks are just stuck in Jr. High mode.

There's signs up on the plate glass at former OBC stating that they will be "reopening a pub soon" in the renovated building across from Canal Park.

RowdyZip, are you talking about the Tap House or Brubakers with your comment?haha, yep...should've clarified that one. It was Brubakers.

My fiancee and I had lunch there a few weeks back...just soup and salad, and she found a dead spider in her salad. We complained to the manager...and they credited, get this, just ONE salad. I took the bill in, along with 3 singles, handed it to the manager and said, "Your waitress did a good job, these are for her. If you think I'm paying for the rest of this food, you're insane." You just reinforced the fact, with your story, that I won't be going back, and it's a shame because it is a nice place.

Agreed on the Matt Rodgers assessment. This is looking remarkably similar to a situation that happened about 8 years ago...Could Matt have a future elsewhere on the field?
-
The kid played well...very impressive for a true frosh. It makes me wonder if perhaps there's an issue with talent evaluation? This could cause MAJOR issues down the road, even with a regime change.I'm not sure how you sit a kid like that, granted it was 1/2 a game, and then give a guy like Rodgers 4 games to "get acclimated with the offense."

I'll say this for the first time, and I mean it. It's time for a coaching change. This staff (and yes, i know it's not just the coaching staff) has thoroughly run the program into the ground deeper than it's ever been in what was (is?) the most important season in program school history. I'm embarrassed to have to settle for rooting for a Wagon Wheel victory this season...there's nothing else to cheer for.

zips with the ball...still down 3-0. shouldve be the under.

any word on rodgers? he got carted off...looks like the frosh era begins?

I'm in for the Chili Cookoff and I'm sure Bleacher Bum and BillCro will be too.Tomorrow is a sausage and hot dog tailgate...with some spiced hot cider as well. Hope to see many of you in lot 9, we'll be looking to kickoff the tailgate at 11am in our usual spot, near the (future) team shop.

Cold and possibly wet weather means the vat of cinnamon tinted (spiked) warm apple cider makes it's first appearance at lot 9. Ohio 38Zips 31Sorry...

What about that punt that appeared to clearly hit an Indiana LB and then recovered by the Zips? Anybody take a look at that on video?

I completely agree on the crowd. It was disappointing in the fact that it was a considerably smaller crowd than last week. However, you can't make the "product on the field" statement (even though I'm aware it's been either mediocre or poor since I've been following the Zips) when the headlines were about the team shutting out the opening opponent 41-0. This city and region doesn't take the team seriously, but until they're given a reason, they never will. Even if it were the case, and the the Zips pulled out a Ball State circa 2008 season, I don't the community would take notice. It's like there's been decades upon decades of apathy in this community in all things related to "Akron U." Take a look at any of the Ohio.com stories...and we wonder why the Beacon had been so poor at covering the local team? People care about Ohio State around here. It disgusts me. Watch the Cleveland news..."the Buckeyes sure did drub Toledo..." Like they're Cleveland's hometown team? Cleveland has the same sick obsession with that state university from Columbus that the entire rest of the state does. Columbus is 150 miles from Cleveland, 110 from Toledo. Nope...not proximity for the reason. Ohio University drubbed Cal Poly...sure not a name team, but a solid victory. Did that make the headlines? Nope. Must not be the "Ohio" thing either. The bottom line is winning. This was probably one of the greatest missed opportunities in the history of the program. The team was manhandled on both sides of the ball by a team that will likely win less than 2 more games the entire rest of the season. What does that say about us? It was just poor timing and an incredible letdown by a guy that was going to be a 3 year starter. Would we have won with Jacq under center? Probably not, but he certainly couldn't have done worse than an unexperienced kid that got a backup's worth or reps in practice all week. That being said, my money is on Rodgers getting better throughout the season, the kid has a pretty high ceiling. And another thing I've been thinking about is whoever has distinguished games as being "premium" games should be smacked upside the head. What does that mean to the public? The other 4 games aren't worth watching? That's what it says to me. Leave a standard price for EVERY game and then down the road maybe you can raise prices across the board if you put a decent product on the field.

Well...we were set up in lot 9 at 8am last week, and they let us in at 8:30 now. Come have a cold one!
-
FYI...lot 9 pass holders. We were told the lot won't be open until 10:30 or 11:00 due to a "lack of parking personnel." Tell me why you would leave one of the main season ticket holder lots as a last priority? Good Lord...after no hiccups last week, this sure is a good way to start off week two.

Most Beautiful Thing You Ever Saw?
RowdyZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
This is fantastic...I was wondering, did the University happen to commission someone to do a full panoramic at field level? That would be ideal to put on a wall... -
Has anybody looked around for Indiana boards to find out what THEY are saying about this game?

why was The Info Opener Not Televised
RowdyZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
The 30,000 is max capacity, SRO, I believe.Officially, I believe the game is a sell out if all seats are sold, which they were.I think this is the third time I've asked this -- and I don't think I've gotten an answer yet: How many seats are there? And does it include the loges, club seats, etc. or just the regular tickets?27,000 SEATS...That's capacity bleachers, GA, Reserved, Loge, and Club seats. They can (not sure why they didn't Saturday) sell 3,000 more Standing room/Berm seating tickets. -
I just got a University email that somehow got me even more hyped up for next Saturday, so here we go. The email contained the very important and fantastic news that LESS THAN 3,000 tickets remain for Saturday's opener. I think it's safe to say, at this point, that we'll see a sellout. The regular season starts in 6 days. Let's get started:There's not a marquee opponent in town this Saturday afternoon, but it is nonetheless one of the most important games in the history of the program. It's important that the Zips come out hot and lay the wood to the Bears. There's going to be 30k fans, and a lot of them newbies, in the stands. They may not recognize Morgan State as a name, but they would recognize...say...3 tds in the 1st quarter. These next two weeks mean everything to the program and I hope JD has the kids ready. A big win in front of 30k for the opener, and perhaps an even bigger win in front of (hopefully) 30k more next week vs a Big T(elev)en program will open the eyes of a huge potential fanbase. We've all said it before, winning builds fans...and this stadium is the chance for exposure that this program needs. I can't wait to see you all Saturday morning, stop by lot 9 and have a...soda.Zips 56Morgan State 6. LETS GO ZIPS!
