  1. wow. great job zeke, and congratulations. can't wait to see you on the floor next fall.
  2. You can't steal home field advantage from a player in an awards vote. This is the next best thing.I'm surprised he didn't finish 3rd.Man, being an Akron fan you never get used to getting crapped on.
  3. The question is begged...how low can the MAC go, after this year's dismal start in basketball?Rice 38WMU 14FAU 24CMU 21LA Tech 17NIU 10UCONN 38Buffalo 20Tulsa 17Ball State 7(2nd quarter)Overall PF: 134 (26.8ppg)Overall PA: 54 (10.8ppg)Ball State comes back for a victory and it ties the MAC the 2nd worst bowl winning percentage (1-4, .200) with the WAC. Only to the Big Ten (1-6, .143) is worse.
  4. The BCS is a farce. There needs to be a playoff, but I'm not sure how it would even be done. Even if you do the top 6 or 8 teams, you're still leaving out a team like (then) 12-0 Boise State. And what if Ball State would've finished strong and beaten the Bulls? They'd be 13-0 and not have cracked the top ten. If you do rid college football of the BCS, I'm not sure what other way could make others happy. The BCS will remain because the "Haves" want to keep the money from the "have nots. Nevermind the fact that a "have not" just throttled an SEC team that held the #1 national ranking in all major polls for 1/3 of the season. :nono:
  5. It's not about getting noticed, it's about winning games and getting to a bowl. That's the ultimate goal for a MAC team: to go bowling.I think we'll have to have a respectful disagreement. Beating up on teams no one knows about or would care to see won't impress the current fan base nor will it grow a larger one. Winning 5-6 games in the conference yearly and 1 or 2 more out of the conference REGULARLY will allow the team to go bowling. Wins like those over NC State and Syracuse (no matter how bad those teams are) are more impressive to the casual fan than going 3-0 vs. Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas and Middle Tennessee. If we schedule cupcakes, it will hurt recruiting as well. Kids come to Akron to prove they deserved to play for the "big boys." They live to win these underdog games. They don't come to Akron to play other MAC teams. You drop the major opponents and see how many 3 or 4 star recruits you get coming in, no matter how shiny the new stadium is.
  6. The Stadium opens September 19th, 2009. I don't think there's any way that that date is changing. Perhaps you'll see a bye, perhaps you'll see another away game (I hope not), but UA wants a "name" team to open the stadium. It will sell out regardless.
  7. Penn State? Maybe. Syracuse and Indiana, definitely not. Those are perfectly winnable games. The Zips continue to schedule the North Texas' and Middle Tennessee's of the world and they'll go unnoticed, win or lose.Hell, I like playing the Suckeyes two or three times a decade. Look how close OU was to knocking them off in the horseshoe. It's only a matter of time before it happens. There is no team the Zips should be afraid to schedule, but I agree that opening against Penn State next year was not a good choice to hype up ICS. Barring an upset (a pretty large one too) the 0-1 Zips will be opening ICS vs Indiana.
  8. I'm gonna offer up a prediction in this one, even though I usually don't anymore. I've dissected the roster a bit, and it appears that URI has the size to give us fits (already a poor rebounding team) on the boards. That, in combination with a Rhode Island team ranked 11th in the nation in FG percentage will lead to a double-digit loss. Here's hoping I'm wrong, and that Bardo, Nate, and the McKnights each pull down double digit boards.Akron 71URI 83

  10. The only thing uglier than that first half of basketball vs. St. Francis tonight was the unpreparedness of the staff. There was a decent crowd on hand, pushing 3k i'd guess. It was like they only expected a few hundred. The mini concessions they had in the stairwells for the Dayton game were absent, and just ONE of the three stands downstairs were open. This resulted in lines 15-20 customers deep. I actually walked down there to grab an overpriced soda for my fiancee and myself to split and immediately walked back to my seat. There's no way I could've bought the drink and made it back to my seat in the 15 minutes left of the half. These are the things that make us look bush league. What about the people that got tickets as Christmas gifts? They can't even get their hands on food or drink because of this BS. Needless to say, I'm slightly irritated.
  11. There's a thread on here somewhere...and i don't want to search for it.Priority Reserved and Reserved seat season ticket holders will be invited to a "select a seat" day sometime around May of 2009. This was directly from the head of ticket sales at the U. Those who bought the combo of 08 AND 09 will have priority over those that just by 09.
  12. Oh...and aside from that, the MAC sustained a pair of other double-digit losses tonight.Buffalo lost by 11 at 6-4 Siena of the MAAC.Toledo lost at home by 10 to 9-3 UIC of the Horizon League. This is an awful year for the conference, and a great year to be bringing up a talented young team. The conference is there for the taking.
  13. 67-41 final. I liked watching it.
  14. Why must we degrade to this BS constantly? Can we edit so the word "Buckeye" disappears in posts? I strongly dislike Ohio State. Some people like both schools. Yep, that's the way it goes. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
  15. How about YOU-EH? (UA)?
  16. There's a pretty nifty giant ice sculpture on cam 3....
  17. Wow, yeah it's hard to translate from the CG images to what we're seeing on the webcams. I had assumed the upper deck in the east stands was completely framed...it appears though that it was only half framed as they're adding a back half now! Is it too soon to get a countdown going?
  18. 38-22, VCU at the half for those who arent following via webcast. Maybe all the pressing will tire them out defensively? Heh...
  19. VCU webcast lists "AU" vs VCU in the scoreboard. Oy.Edit: Also very annoying as the 11 second 1350 delay allows me to choose: crappy vcu announcers or french/dunn.
  20. Akron opens up as a 10.5 point underdog. This seems a little much to me, especially after the showing at home against Dayton but we'll see where the line moves over the next 24 hours. And not to steal Zippyfan34's thunder, but HERE is the freebie link to the game webcast.
  21. According to Scout, Nicely visited Toledo last Friday. Looks like not-so-much a package deal (at least not a sure thing), who knows where these two kids will land...
  22. I used to be of the belief that the ABJ really thought it was best to write stories about Ohio State to get readers. I'm starting to realize people in Akron are actually STARTING to care about the Zips. For the first time (that I've noticed), a Zips-featured article is in the days "Most Read" stories on Ohio.com. KEEP IT UP ABJ!
  23. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe he's hinting at the Zips needing to get an experienced talented wing to be a "wingman" for Zeke in his SOPHOMORE season...that way the Zips are better able to pair up a solid inside-outside threat without spending another year to develop the talent. I'm not sure I agree with that sentiment...
  24. So I was wondering where this thread was considering it's Thursday night so I thought I'd start it. What are everyone's thoughts on this one? It's gonna be tough, but I think the Zips stand a good chance. We may be slight underdogs at home, which should play into our hands again. We match up relatively well size wise with them they've got a couple of shorter/stronger big men in the fold. If i remember correctly, Wright gave us quite a handful last year. Has anyone heard further on C. McKnight? Dambrot said he thought he had a cracked rib in the Niagara post game. What about starting lineups for this one? Final score? Here's my expert prediction: PG HumptySG RobertsSF NatePF BrettC BardoDayton 68Zips 71Hope there's a strong Rowdy contingent despite it being the week before finals.
  25. Well...K-ent is on a four-game losing streak after starting 3-0. Wonder when the last time they lost 4 in a row was? They lost to St. Mary's at home by a half-dozen. Buffalo hung tough with #2 UConn at home (HOW'D THEY GET THAT GAME?!?!?!), but came up just short by 4. WMU is getting pounded at VCU. That's gonna be a tough one for the Zips. Good night yesterday for the MAC followed by a 0-3 one tonight. Oh well....
