Make sure you don't forget your passport... -
WOOOO!!!!!! WELCOME TO THE ZIPS, ZEKE!!!!
-
Word was that a press conference of sorts was being held at Mckeesport HS at 1pm...
-
Wow. Click that link and get a good chuckle. They're decent for the first time ever and they're just as confident as The Golden Felons following a one-game winning streak. They expect to waltz in and have an easy win. I love it.

My goal is noon tomorrow...I should have 3-4 others with me. We'll add a couple more around 2.
-
Any word yet??!?!?!? Hope someone "in the know" gets word up here ASAP! I still can't believe it's gonna happen...until it does!

TEXAS BOWL, anyone? -
I have to disagree -- rather strongly. First I see Utah losing, most likely to BYU in the Beehive Bowl. Boise likely goes to the (BCS) house again. But if I'm not mistaken, any non-BCS team that finishes in the top-12 ...or yada, yada, yada... is entitled to a BCS bowl spot. Someone who actually follows American football, please fill in all the yada yadas. The top ranked non-BCS conference team is guaranteed a BCS spot only if they're in the top 12 of the final BCS rankings. The problem in the system lies in the increasing frequency of "BCS Busters." Say Utah finishes 7th and Ball State finishes 10th...Utah likely goes to the Orange Bowl, Ball State likely goes to the Motor City or GMAC, while a much lower ranked Big East champion heads for a big payday in a BCS bowl.

Wow!That's some good stuff. Here's hoping we can surpass some of that first "golden era" of Zips band work over the next few years. Very impressive. Especially marching during practice in those big ol' bell bottoms.

Nice job by Western, that was a great game. We scored huge by not having Western or Central on the sched this year. 23-17 Western beats Illinois.

The thing that stands out to me in that video is the audio of fans singing along to the fight song...i don't think I've ever heard that at the game, outside of SOME of the students. Other than that, I say bring it back...maybe with a new twist somehow. It's entertainment, many bands do such things. Hell, on alumni band night, my HIGH SCHOOL spelled out script "Riverside." Let's shed this "little brother" image and have some fun. Though I would like to say that halftime's show last night was one of the most entertaining in my rubber bowl history. Loved the choice of tunes with Kansas, Queen etc....much better than big band versions of Dave Matthews Band.

Elton Alexander's Zips Preview

Love the comments at the bottom. Seems like some Golden Felon fans have a jealousy issue... -
21-17 Bulls...Miami's giving em a game. That'd be huge for the Zips if Miami could pull this one out.D'OH. Zips need to win tomorrow. If we hold, the MAC East comes down to the final game at the Rubber Bowl.

Isn't that why they're there? I heard (somewhere) that the structural integrity at that end of the bowl wasn't sufficient to support the weight of a full crowd. Anyone know about this?
-
Just the tip of the iceberg, just wait for Evans to get settled in.Wow. This is really bad. It's getting to the point that it's embarrassing to the conference as well as the team. There's quite a rap sheet for that squad...
-
So would it make a difference if Akron pulled this one out in 2OT or won in regulation? In the eyes of the selection committee?

Willoughby is closer to 45-50. I grew up in Painesville, east of there and it takes me an hour to visit family. -
ESPNU...whatever that is for you. I think it's in the 100s on TWC.

AMEN Brother! Now our problem is having our inconsistent team holding up their end of the bargain. All four of the remaining games on the schedule are VERY winnable. An 8-4 season is within reach, heading into a brand new stadium. One quality season (caliber of what Ball State is doing this year) is enough to open peoples eyes in Northeast Ohio. They're desperate for a winner. I see one, maybe two more losses on the schedule for Columbus. An 8-4 season for them and an 8-4 season for the Zips, winning 5 straight to end the year, would provide a huge media boost for the Zips heading into ICS next year. So far the two non-conference games I know of (@ Syracuse and vs. Indiana) are VERY winnable games for next years squad. Could the Zips be next year's Ball State? Let's hope they can feed off of the electricity of some HUGE crowds next year.

I don't know about you guys, but watching part of that Toledo/CMU game, a week from Wednesday scares me a little bit now. They looked pretty good out there. Granted, LeFevour was clearly not 100% (let's hope he gets there before the BSU/CMU matchup), their defense performed well. The offense seemed to struggle with the same unimaginative redzone playcalling as the Zips, having stalled out inside the ten several times to settle for fieldgoals. For some reason I don't have the faith in the 3-3-5 to stop a team in short yardage with 1st and goal...

Totally agree. We don't HAVE to have 4 good DL. How about 2 or 3 good DL and 1 or 2 average DL. Works for everybody else.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/teams/akron/This is a link to the new Zips page from sports illustrated. It breaks down future opponents offensive and defensive rankings both nationally and within the conference. Toledo boasts the 12th ranked MAC offense (97/120 in 1-A) and the 4th ranked total defense (67/120 nationally). Yet somehow they are last in the MAC in points allowed and 105/120 nationally. Compare that to the Zips at 4th in the MAC on offense (43rd nationally), and 12th on defense (94th nationally). Does defense win games? We'll find out in 2.5 weeks.
