3 Million? Definitely.

Hadn't seen this posted yet. Congratulations, Reggie.

Just a quick thought: what will happen with the space that the current football practice field occupies? This will be obsolete, following the completion of the stadium. Will UA keep this around for intramurals? Would there be room here for an arena to make a full sports complex? What're everyone's thoughts?

Recruiting Florida Again
RowdyZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
And no kids from Hawaii - they would just want to do the Hula in the lockeroom.......a terrible distraction.Oh snap! You better watch out, Z.I.P. will be after you! -
I remember him getting left home during the MAC tournament last year, it's part of the reason we had a much easier time with CMU. Good for him though, it'd be the only way he can play for his senior year.

I try to avoid posting on Ohio.com stories dealing with UA because of my obvious connections. I read through the comments and I can't believe how much some of the local idiots hate this school. It's ridiculous, really, and the more I read the less shocked I am that they could find a jury to apply such a ridiculous ruling. I did put up a quick post with some math I ran. If you base the value of the 50 space lot if the stadium was built, and consider the Zips have approximately 5 to 6 home games a year...If manny and joe cleaned up at $100/space (which i doubt would ever happen despite it's proximity to the stadium), it would take almost four-decades to recoup that $1 million price tag. 37 years to be exact. I say buy everything from them with whatever the new ruling is (hopefully it's fair) and then leave them with their $1 million parking lot. Let em pay taxes on it and sell those spaces 5 times a year. Let 'em spend 4 decades trying to attain that value for their lot. I'm sure the stadium will be just as hot of a ticket when it's 40 years old (well, hopefully it will be and be about 60,000 seats by then). Then the students in the new dorms can park there illegally. I really hope the U gets their way here. I know I'm somewhat biased, as a lot of us on here are, but anyone can see that anything over about $1.5 mil is way too much.

I know nothing about construction but.... COME ON STRUCTURAL STEEL!Any ideas when the pre-fab seats will start to be installed or will this be one of the later additions?

I saw this on Ohio.com It's really quite an achievement. It makes me wonder why so many people are so sour with this city, especially residents of the city. Do they realize how much worse cities of this size usually are? Incredible if you read the comments on the beacon story. Congratulations, Akron.

Interesting article. I've been glancing at rivals over the last couple days as well because they're counting down all Div 1-A programs 120 through 1, doing 10 per day. K-ent was 113th of 120. At least the zips MADE IT to day 3 and 99th overall. If a lot of things go right (williams and jones swaps, qb play from whomever, a decent performance from the wideouts) I think this season could be surprisingly similar to 2005 with the Zips shocking some people. And that, honestly, would be the best way to go into the first season at the new stadium. Almost the same way the Tribe magically began to be competitive the year before going into the Jake. B)

what a great place...AMERICA...the almighty dollar is our god!RIDICULOUS RIDICULOUS RIDICULOUS!! Someone tell me how that crap is worth 3 mill? Did they think they were supposed to appraise the value for when the stadium is directly behind it?  :puke:Oh, and thanks for the link, Bill. Nice to see you on here during a non-K-S-U week!

Zeke Marshall Verbal commitment!
RowdyZip replied to joshgozips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I've seen threads go off-topic here before, but WOW.  Perhaps someone should move the last 1/3 of this thread elsewhere?! -
Oh, haha. Sorry 'bout that. I must've misread your post. I think the point of having indiana (formerly kentucky) come in to infocision was to have a big name team that was beatable for the opener. There's no need to worry about putting butts in the seats, at least for the first season. What you want is quality competition that is BEATABLE. The bottom line is, during that first season there are gonna be a lot of potential bandwagon fans in the seats, you want to show that group a good product. While it doesn't need to be a good product NECESSARILY, it DOES need to be a victory if at all possible. People like winners. Racer, your idea is a good one too, but hopefully in the coming years at ICS we will be successful enough to use that leverage of the new stadium to bring teams. However, during the first season, WINNING is the most important thing in order to bring people back.

Alrighty, i'm not gonna beat around the bush anymore. Indiana IS the first opponent at Infocision.

C'mon Browns, pick him up! I can safely say (albeit still unbelievable to me) that the Cleveland Browns will be a title contender next year, and nothing would be better than being able to wear a brown-and-orange jersey of the most successful Zip alum in the NFL.Order your replica 99 Browns jersey with Taylor on the back. If you want it, do it. Who cares? If you go to the stadium you will see Willie Green, Couch, Courtney Brown, etc...What's the difference if you make your own or wear some losers jersey? In todays f'ed up nfl system, I would respect you more for that, than blindly buying the next first round pick's jersey just because they have it at Dick's and the some clown on WKNR tells Browns fans that "Quincy Morgan is a steal at the top of round two" so Brown fan runs out and buys his jersey.I was actually more excited with what Taylor playing in the Cleveland market would do for the Akron program. The vast majority of people don't know that Taylor played at Akron. It could open a lot of eyes to folks around here that not only do we have a division one program, but it does put out some quality players. It would be perfect timing with the opening of ICS as well. A lot of folks think Akron only populates the NFL with Charlie Fryes.Oh, and I do have a Courtney Brown Orange jersey and a Chuck Frye jersey (as a lot of folks on here do, but most won't admit). Maybe I should hurry and pick up Brady Quinn too?

Scout 2009 Recruit Rankings
RowdyZip replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Wow, Zeke's stock is soaring. I hope for NLOI day to be here sooner than later (not really because I hate winter). Imagine Zeke has a HUGE Senior season, his stock soars further and he scrapes the top 25. I know we all say that for the most part the *stars* ratings are BS, but I wonder if any MAC school has ever secured a commitment from a *Five-Star* HS athlete? I don't even recall seeing anyone headed to a MAC school in basketball above a 3-star. Go Zeke! Go Zips! -
Wow, first Andrew Moss, now Rydell Brooks
RowdyZip replied to zipfan 81's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I understand UA wanting to wait on an official statement, pending the final investigation. However, I wish they would publish a press release stating intentions should he be found guilty. -

RowdyZip replied to zipfan 81's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If you read the updated story from the beacon, it almost appears as Brooks was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe I'm seeing it with Zips-colored glasses, but it seems to me he knew he was in association with some shady characters and once the whole thing went down, attempted to run to avoid being caught in the vehicle with this guy. Either way, it's clear that UA should have no association with Mr. Brooks, regardless of the outcome of his pending trial. There's no room for kids that choose to run with the wrong crowd on this team. Coach Dambrot is attempting to separate the UA basketball team from the rest of the state and guys hanging out with/being common thieves should not and will not be tolerated. -

RowdyZip replied to zipfan 81's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
As a PR major at UA, the best thing to possibly happen right now is to have Media Relations to print up a press release minimizing the contact of this guy with the Akron program. It needs to be stated immediately that he was a walk-on, non-scholarship transfer who had never seen the court. UA needs to state cutting of all ties between this young man and the program. It's obvious to us fans that coach D won't deal with these sort of issues, but it needs to be stated to the general public. After all, we aren't K-ent State. -
Interesting Quote from Proenza

That would be one h*ll of an arena, seeing as we're only spending about 60 mil on a 30k stadium. -

A Msg from Zeke Marshall's MOM...
RowdyZip replied to FromdaBurgh's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Sounds very interesting. Couldn't be Zeke committing already could it?...I didn't think signing day was until the fall, so if he is already committed, an official announcement couldn't be made (right?). I'm guessing it's the release of this coming season's schedule.Trimmy...Basketball recruits can Verbally commit to a school at anytime. They cannot sign their 'binding' letter of Intent until November 1. An official announcement of a verbal commitment can come at anytime. Check out the Verbal commitments announced on Rivals.com and Scout.com. There are kids from the class of '2012' making Verbal announcements. This is the common thing for an athlete. Make an announcement of a Verbal Commitment. It helps to cut down the madness of the recruiting process. Most schools respect the verbal commitment and back away. But some 'wolves' will continue to recruit even though the athlete has already made their college choice. Sounds like Zeke is ready to end his recruiting process. 40 more minutes...Let's see what happens...C'mon everybody, let's not go jinxing this thing... -
Middlebury Marketplace is where Exchange/E. Market/Arlington come together...in the rather rough Middlebury neighborhood of Akron.
