I like Tom and I think he's getting better and better at his job as time goes by. A solid no vote for me

Top 50 MAC players from the past 20 years
The Hip Zip replied to zippyfan34's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
What a strange list. That's one way to put it. Demetrick Shaw not on the list? At all? He was the guy that really made everything work @ Can't. This is some NBA fan's view of the MAC .. after he go through the top 8 or 10, he was out of ideas? They do have Shaw at 46, which is still a joke. Personally, I'm with you. He's top 10, or at least top 15, in my book. Gates was certainly the meat on that team, Huffman and Mitchell the potatoes... but Shaw was the gravy. Zeke's a great defender, but inch for inch and pound for pound, Shaw is the best defender I've seen since following the MAC. Given who they represented, I "hated" that team, but I have to admit that their NCAA run was a lot of fun to watch. With all due respect to Derrick Tarver, I'd put Jeremiah Wood in before him. When healthy, Wood could, and did, dominate games. Agree 100% -
My crystal ball tells me that Christobal gets the nod.

I understand we want to protect Zeke and keep him in the paint. Here are some things to consider: 1. A good man to man is the more difficult defense to beat. 2. To be fair to Zeke...he needs to learn to play man to man if he is going to succeed at the next level. 3. When Zeke goes for the block on shots 6-8 feet or more from the rim...he is out of position to get a rebound. If we don't get the rebound and the other team puts it back in from close range...we lose the impact of Zeke altering shots. We need a coordinated effort and strong play form Tree and te Serb to be really good and effective. We should get better as the team gets to know each other and they learn what to exect from KD and their teammates. I think mixing zone and help schemes are beneficial and KD will know when is the right time. But I think this team is not as experiences or does not have as high of "basketball IQ" as past teams. That will dictate going a little slower as guys learn the system playing with each other and understanding their roles. The good thing is we have lots of solid players and they are good guys who have the ability to learn. Now..we will see about their desire over the next few months. Can't debate, all decent points. I agree that we will roll it out later. The same tactic was used late last season and a couple of opponents were nothing short of dumbfounded. That's why he's the coach and I'm the fan.

Twas a time, not long ago, that we were not athletic enough to play a good zone. Guy's were just too slow sliding over on the wing. This is no longer the case. We have athletes 1 though 10 who have this ability so why not more zone to protect Zeke ?

You're looking forward to a little RPI are you not Baller ?? You know know it! I knew it all along but we owe you one. Hell, off of the top of my head I think we owe you three. You guys looked good against Richmond. After giving up some pretty easy shots in the paint early Shaka fixed that in a hurry. Continued success to the Rams ! When does Drexel get their guys eligible ??

Another step in the positive direction. I am very much looking forward to this. I just hope the the show is well produced and I think it will be. About the only other STO produced show I watch is the one that features local golf courses with Jimmy Hamlin and it is excellent.

He was for sure. I hope this stretch of games at the JAR does wonders for his confidence.

McCrea is a beast. He plays well in every aspect of the game. I expect him to advance to the NBA after his career at Buffalo. I still stand by my statement that the Bulls starting 5 is the best in the MAC but I expect that to change to us once we get a few miles on Tree, Harney Gilliam and Walsh.

You can pass the shame to whoever you want but when it comes to fan support, the athletic department and especially this basketball program has no one to blame but themselves. If you build a team that can't win till March you'll get a fan base that doesn't give a damn till March. I see plenty of mids with lesser credentials than us that come close to filling the place most of the time. The difference between fan support in the MVC and Colonial is light years ahead of us and the rest of the MAC

I'd say about 2-1 against but would love to see it. Sooner or later Pine Bluff will discover that they can't go with their 6'8" guy down low.

" Not As Bad As Their Record" They are tonight, at least at this point. They looked better at Mich. I expected a bit of a tussle.
-
Love tonight's starting lineup. So much better with Walsh on the floor. Argue that Nitro fans

I'm laid up with some spine problems so can't be there. They just panned the camera around the Jar and it looks like there about 150 people in their seats. Shame on the students, shame on most everybody. The Athletic dept could do themselves a huge favor by giving out freebies to the local schools, churches, and youth groups. Give 'em a taste of a nice product and they will be back. If the margin of victory comes from feeding off of the home crowd then we are screwed. That's enough from me. Don't get me really started but the program deserves so much more.

They are indeed. Every season they open up with several tough games on the road. Their schedule isn't quite as tough this year as it had been in the past but they have played some murderous schedules. I remember the game a couple years ago very well. They frustrated us big time all night long and the game was tightly fought till the buzzer. That was the night that Humpty really lost his cool and it was close to being a bench clearing brawl. I don't quite see this month as "bringing in the cupcakes" as others here have suggested. UAPB can hang and Youngstown is much more athletic with a better team that they have had in awhile. We will be tested in a couple of these games for sure.

But in the end Detroit covered. $$$

Gilliam impressed and made a difference when he was on the floor today. It's time to reward him with more time at the 2 spot. I've never been a Nitro fan but this season he's been pretty bad on both ends of the floor. He kind of reminds me of McNees. Both had decent junior seasons but both seemed to regress as seniors.

Looking forward to seeing Detroit at Bama tomorrow. The Titans now have Holman back which instantly makes them a much better team. Would not at all be surprised to see Detroit hang in there all day long.

Obviously, this list can be picked apart until our keyboards blow up. Just for starters, Trevor Huffman is way over rated in my book. He had great talent surrounding him. I'd take Turner Battle over him any day. In contrast, I think that Bowdry is significantly under rated at #31. As the only real threat on poor EMU teams, he was doubled and triple teamed on the block and simply dominated on a nightly basis, putting up outstanding numbers. -
I'd love to see the Herd come back. I thought it was one of the dumbest moves, at least from a traveling standpoint, ever when they left. I still remember like it was yesterday when their O linemen picked up Leftwich and carried him down the field at the rubber bowl. they were a very good fit for our conference.
