No Direct or Dish TV for this one but possibly first row will have it on the net. It would be a huge mistake to sleep on Miami at Millett Hall. Despite their record, they have been in most of their games right to the finish. They have beaten Dayton and a very good Belmont team. In their last effort they played very well against an extremely talented Vandy team on the road. They also still have Mavunga, who is a beast in the paint and have been getting solid guard play. While I expect a victory, the Zips will need to bring their A game.

thanks for the link, Justin covered it pretty well -
I like the conference schedule because we don't have a 3 game in 5 days stretch like we have had in the past. As MD pointed out, what I do not like is that we get the three bottom feeders of the west at our place but hit the road to face Ball, Central and Western on the road. When it all shakes out those are the top 3 in the west. I think by the time cross over play begins it won't matter a whole lot but we did get the short end of the stick in that regard.

Thanks, I always enjoy this. Hopefully we will have a strong and savvy group of Zip prognosticators this season. ( But not holding breath)

Boo hoo

Kind of an amazing performance if you ask me. We beat a good, not great. team on the road by 16 without anything from our 2 guards. This was our bigs stepping up huge tonight

Jesus ! That is all.

You don't take out a guy with hot hand... KD finish the game with same players to close out that has failed in pass. My confidence in him is slipping...This tells me he is incapable to change for the better. Although big win for Akron... Please tell me this is a joke? Man this is a finicky fan base. We just pulled off a convincing win on the road against a really quality opponent and people are calling for the coaches head. Unbelievable. Clearly, this program deserves a better fan base

VCU at Akron on December 29th, 2011
The Hip Zip replied to Districtballer's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
the reason that Nik was handling the ball in the back court is that AA was on the bench and their guards had a big quickness and defensive edge over our guards. That was not the case w/ Nik who handled it pretty well IMO. Seems to me that he crossed mid court on the dribble w/ no problem. The notion that Nik "was awful" is one of the more laughable posts that I have seen here, and there have been plenty. -

Haha, we know all about homer announcers (we have some ourselves), but this blew even them away. It was highly entertaining listening to them making up phantom foul, travels, and carries on us every offensive possession. It's certainly par for the course, but our fans have listened to a lot of homer announcers and yours were a different level altogether. Yeah, I've said the same to my wife many times that French is a tad over the top, no doubt -

To be fair, VCU leads the country in turnover percentage rate (at least we did going into the UNCG game, we're definitely one of the leading teams in the country in this department). We probably had a good amount to do with that and have forced a ton of turnovers from almost everyone we've played so far. Blue and Gold, yeah I was highly impressed with Abreu coming off a surgery and being that good. He's a quality player and along with Marshall a true mid-major star. I didn't mention Zeke before, but man has he grown since our last match up. He was soft as jello as a freshman and did nothing then. It couldn't be more different this time around. He was a monster defensively and really stopped everything in the half court going to the rim. He's a NBA player when it's all said and done. He reminds me a ton of Larry Sanders for us, and he went 15th overall in the 2010 NBA draft. The kid is special defensively. I'm glad you guys got Terry Bowden to bring some fans into the house. That was a very strong mid-major atmosphere for 4,000 fans and I haven't seen many mid-major games as high-level as the one I saw last night. You guys have a fine team and will have a fine season if you can keep your full team together all season. Good point, your guys have some very quick hands and are on the ball all night long. Those are the primary ingredients of a turnover machine. Got on your site and looked around. For the most, you have several guys that really know the game. That made it pretty obvious to spot the forum ass ( Rusty S) LOL. It seems that it comes as a great surprise, to some on your forum, that the announcers are paid by the University of Akron. Of course they are biased. I hope for continued success for Shaka and VCU, Keep in touch DB -

Great game ... poor result. Life goes on and we will be a very fine team in March. The one thing that I learned tonight is that Rico is pure guts and desire. If he were to go down we would be in big trouble. Great to meet Doug and Dave tonight as well. It's nice to put a face on the posters here at ZN. -

The Ohio Bobcats: Our Biggest Threat?

Anybody here have that shot of Bubba leaving the floor in tears ?? One of my favs. It would be a mistake to discount Buffalo. When on their game, the Bulls are very good. -

I agree about Rico. For those of you that have not seen VCU this year, they are the best defending team that we have faced by far. They can toss a variety of looks at us and are not adverse to picking us up in the back court. I just can't see us beating them w/o Rico based on what I have seen when he was suspended. If I were a betting man I'd be on VCU and the under. I'd be even happier though to leave the JAR tonight with a W over a VCU team that has already improved greatly since their first couple of games. -

Why should you expect an apology ? That's funny but keep on waiting. We'll bring food and water as you age. -
I like Tom and I think he's getting better and better at his job as time goes by. A solid no vote for me

Top 50 MAC players from the past 20 years
The Hip Zip replied to zippyfan34's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
What a strange list. That's one way to put it. Demetrick Shaw not on the list? At all? He was the guy that really made everything work @ Can't. This is some NBA fan's view of the MAC .. after he go through the top 8 or 10, he was out of ideas? They do have Shaw at 46, which is still a joke. Personally, I'm with you. He's top 10, or at least top 15, in my book. Gates was certainly the meat on that team, Huffman and Mitchell the potatoes... but Shaw was the gravy. Zeke's a great defender, but inch for inch and pound for pound, Shaw is the best defender I've seen since following the MAC. Given who they represented, I "hated" that team, but I have to admit that their NCAA run was a lot of fun to watch. With all due respect to Derrick Tarver, I'd put Jeremiah Wood in before him. When healthy, Wood could, and did, dominate games. Agree 100%
