  1. Not JD's fault. Ask Jacquemain and the rest of his "boys" about that one. At least a few of them give a damn I hope. JD made the tough choice by benching the only chance we had to win..And it hurt us, BAD. Yeah, I'm just completely blowing off some steam after this embarrassment. Sorry, but I don't know what else to do, Indiana is absolutely horrible and our defense was even more pathetic. We just made a complete fool of ourselves today. We had a chance to be taken seriously, but that's gone now. Thank you Chris, hope it was worth it to you. And for all of you Rodgers advocates... How many MORE pics can your boy throw? Clearly the kid is nowhere near ready... I just hope these guys figure it out soon.. Good luck to you the rest of the season, because after what I witnessed today you're really gonna need it.. ugh
  2. hoo hoo hoosier daddy? Is what Zips fans will be chanting after we go up by three touchdowns in the fourth quarter..
  3. Can't is the best all-around sports program, period? Clearly. I go to Akron's games against them every year. Year after year thinking, man, why can't we be that good? They go undefeated in their out of conference schedule and then go burn the mid american conference year after year, every single year, for decades. Why are they even still a member of the mac? The Can't State sports tradition is so strong that I can never find a ticket to any of their sporting events. If only Akron could one day muster up the gutsy performance to shock the world and just upset these guys in any sport.. -I showed one of my friends this little stoner's post and he just spat his drink right out of his mouth whilst laughing uncontrollably. I hope "Realism" comes back with more of this charming and witty banter. Sometimes I need that little pick me up during a long week. But please, for the love of god, in all honesty, just go back to whatever commune, or squatter village you came from kid. You're probably making the other public library patrons nauseous with your overpowering stench of last night's dumpster diving exploits that are somehow still stuck in your lice infested "indie rock" beard. Forgive my brash comments, you probably, considerately, showered with patchouli and bong resin that morning, didn't you? Maybe you can actually see to it that, for once, mommy's tuition check serves a real purpose and you can get out of Ravenna's finest learning institution with your "general studies" degree asap. What's it been, 10 plus years now? a season where you actually, FINALLY win the MAC??). Five words for ya. Get used to it pal.
  4. Bought my copy today. I liked what Tressel wrote, even though it's hardly half a page, it seemed very heartfelt and sincere. It's also kind of cool to read the articles from the Buchtelite from the 1800's and the interesting vocabulary and diction used at the time. Kudos to Ms. Kaloz for taking the initiative to compile all of the information for this book, it's really a pretty awesome thing for any Akron, or college football fan to have. Heck, I just learned from it that originally a touchdown used to be worth four points and a field goal worth five, kind of interesting stuff for any football fan I would imagine.
  5. For anyone that has the channel or who is interested, CBS College Sports (CBS C (Channel 152) on Dish Network (I'm not certain what channel it is on other providers)) is replaying the Zips 2009 NCAA Tourney game Tuesday @10p. Link
  6. A few years back the Cavaliers integrated "New Noise" by the Refused off of their album "The Shape of Punk to Come" (and yes, the title is a parody of Ornette Coleman's "The Shape of Jazz to Come") into their huge player intro production. Now THAT is an album that anyone still in their twenties needs to own. When compared to "New Noise", "I put on" makes me want to go sniff some flowers while wearing a patchouli scented tie-dye dress.. But the proof is in the noise: I believe the Cavaliers cut out all of the vocal tracks and just edited the song to take advantage of the massive and intimidating guitar riff. Also, the concept of "New Noise" does kind of fall in line with the youth on our basketball team, as well as the attitude I'm sure they have in wanting to bring something new to the face of the program. Just a thought...
  7. I think an interesting idea would be to have some sort of video collage tribute to the history of Zips basketball immediately before the player introductions begin. I'm not sure what the limitations are as far as archived audio and video footage are, but I think it would serve as a reminder of some of the pride and tradition associated with the basketball program, maybe creating some sort of "mystique" to the JAR, and thus enhancing the game day experience. If nothing else it might help to educate new and younger fans as to what some of those banners and pictures hanging in the rafters actually signify and that there actually is a pretty extensive basketball history at our university. Perhaps it would even help to give the current players a renewed sense of creating their own place in the long history of hoops at UA before each game. That, and maybe it will remind some of the old timers and alumni of their heyday back in college . It would serve as a reminder of how we got to where we are, who we are, and what it takes to reach new levels of excellence on the court. To be honest, I'm feeling extremely inspired just thinking about it...
  8. I'm not a very big fan of it. Perhaps we can get this guy to come up with something?"You give 100 percent in the first half of the game, and if that isn't enough in the second half you give what's left."
  9. I was able to quickly swing past the stadium site this afternoon while running some errands. I apologize for not having time to take more (or very decent quality) pictures, but here is a quick picture I took with my Blackberry of the progress of the brick work on the outside of the east stands. The picture is taken at just about what used to be the intersection of Spicer and Nash Streets facing west. Hope this gives those who can only see what's going on in the webcams a slightly better idea of the progress on the outer facade of the stadium.
  10. Agreed. Especially about the elitism part. I agree they should either serve to all that are of age, or if not, just prohibit it all together. Why should some be able to drink and watch football while others who are of age can not? Because of the price of your tickets? That is ridiculous (and I could throw in a few more expletives about classism, but I won't b/c Akron provided me with a lot of opportunity and a reasonable tuition as an undergrad and also offers a relatively affordable graduate degree ). But regardless, I'll be trying to rock one or two Roo Brews either inside or outside of the Info. (Wherever it's getting sold in the fall). After all, it is extremely tasty, and as has been stated, sneaking a few "ones" into a Zips game is no new phenomenon... Not that the RB ever required such a covert operation, but perhaps, things will be different at the Info.. Good luck and God Bless, my partying friends...
  11. X1X1,000Thanks for a great season guys. We'll get 'em back next season.
  12. Just wanted to say at this important junction in our school's history that, well, I love you Zips, Zips Nation!, Akron, and everybody that has had some stake in this and has been at the JAR for all, or any of the games and/or has had an influence on the basketball program in recent years or years past. Thank you, this has been an amazing season... I will remember it always. Absolutely nothing but the best wishes in the NCAA Tournament. Lets keep this year going! God it feels so good. We are some of the best fans in the country, if not the best! And now, 23 years later, we have one of the 64 best teams in the country! It only gets better from here on out!... GO AKRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I don't even know what to say at this very second.... Nate, congrats, and thank you... for everything..This team was picked to do nothing and was dead in the water in the first round... This was a result of nothing but grit, grit, and grit... My Akron undergrad years took place during basically ALL of the big Tourney upsets and NO ONE can take this away from us, and from me as well. I was at "the shot" and at the "Can't BS finals game" and this is now absolute insanity. I'm so lost I don't even know what to say. You guys did it, you freaking made it to the dance. THANK YOU!!!!. I was just an infant the last time this happened.. THANK YOU.. And I'm dead serious when I say this... Lets win the whole f@$%ing thing... NO ONE GETS OVER ON AKRON!!! WE CAN GET PAST ANYONE IN THE NATION! JUST BELIEVE! Thank you again. Tonight was so absolutely amazing, represent our city as it should be represented...The basketball capital of the world, the home of Lebron James and two of his amazing teammates... Do this thing for Rome and for Dru and Nick and Cedrick and WOOODY, as well as Goddard and Quade, do it for all of us... You guys can roll with anyone in the NATION and now, finally, we get the chance to prove it. The nation better get ready for the names McKNIGHT and LINHART, because you're all gonna know it soon...WE CHEER THE AKRON WARRIORS BOLD!
  14. It is ridiculous that we don't have a bye this year and uber disappointing, but on the plus side, we should be able to destroy toledo and then take miami out.. And then we would "most likely" match up against BG again? Hah We own this tourney... Then it could be CAN NOT STATE again in the Championship... That's how I'm figuring this tournament will go... WE GET OUR REVENGE THIS YEAR. DISCOUNT NO ONE, DESTROY EVERYONE.ZIPS DON'T QUIT.
  15. Sorry GP1, I usually enjoy your football related comments but are you seriously questioning Linhart's manhood on the floor? That's a joke at best. That kid is as tough as they make em. And yes he did make a hard foul on a breakaway drive to the hoop in a hard, yet clean way, as well as some other basketball savvy plays throughout the game to keep us in it. The kid has intangibles and crazy mad work ethic and is the embodiment of Akron, not just the University, but the city as well. Just as Akron is a city that refuses to give up, and just as Akron continues to grow and innovate despite difficult circumstances, so does this team as led by their floor captain Nate Linhart. Just because he doesn't put up 20 points a night, although I believe he's about 50 points short of 1,000 if that means anything (which it surely should) doesn't mean he's some creampuff out on the floor. Basketball is about defense, sweat, and hustle, not about putting up 115 points per game... just ask the phoenix suns how that worked out and why they acquired Shaq.. It's about a balanced game with ferocity on both sides, and when you can create turnover points in excess as well as box out, thus giving up very few offensive rebounds (i.e. dominating inside defensively), you can typically, easily win the game. That's been my long held theory anyway... Take it for what it's worth.
  16. "Integrity of the game." I like that, and from what I understand about Singletipsy, from other posters, is that he has been suspended from the MAC Tourney by the league. Hopefully that is the case, because as we all know, we would see no discipline from Hippie Tech, because hey, anything goes at that mockery of a program. I also saw, and correct me if I'm wrong, Sullinger elbow Hitchens in the face when clearing some space out on a rebound in the first half, which resulted in no call. I didn't catch the Parks contact with Linhart but I really wouldn't doubt it. I do almost find it comical that Hippie Tech threw cheap shots the entire game and yet the Zips refrained and acted with total class and yet they end up winning the game somehow, when it was ours to win. We're easily a better team, but just let every opportunity in the end of the second half slip through our hands. There were clearly some no calls in this game that should have went the Zips way... But there really are no excuses. We should have had this one. It makes me very proud of our program that we play with integrity and demonstrate our character by playing the game the right way in spite of the fact that others, like Geno's thugs, trash it up with infantile and inexcusable actions. I just wish we could have proven this afternoon that you can play the game the right way and still hand it to the other team regardless of their infantile, petty actions. Well, as a result we've got four more to go before we can show the nation that we're on our way to finally arriving and doing it the right way... Here's to the true Blue and Gold in the MAC Tourney. And as I understand it...ZIPS DON'T QUIT!P.S. Am I the only one that thinks Brandon Parks is the Fugliest looking player in college basketball? I mean, what gutter in Ravenna did you crawl out of?...
  17. There is no such thing as an "Akron Curse". Get that notion out of your head... We had this game up until the last 90 seconds or so... We lost because of our failure to execute in the end and a lucky shot by some scrub who hadn't really done a thing all damned game. I think the killer instinct idea is right on though. Akron needs that killer instinct and needs to believe they are going to win and just execute accordingly. Just play to your potential and keep the confidence level high in the tournament and beyond. Just as LeBron goes by the statement that the Cavs are a no excuses team, Akron is the same. We make our own destiny, and have earned every victory and every loss on our record. The outcome is what it is, although we really gave one away today. I really just think the failure to close out comes down to inexperience and some self doubt down the stretch. Just believe in what you do and give it everything you have and the wins will follow. Keep the Positive Mental Attitude in the Tourney Zips, because 'The Nation' is right here with you.
  18. As of right now, I have no idea where anybody will be sitting at the Q. I do know that each of the 12 teams usually gets their own slice of the seats. If you're buying tickets from the JAR ticket office, you'll end up in UA's allotted section. If you're buying them when you get the the Q, I'm not sure how that works. Thanks uakronkid.. I know in past years Rowdies typically moved around to a different seating section per each round of the tourney, so I'm thinking I'll either have to play it by ear basically or just get tix at the JAR and represent the Blue and Gold in the ol' alumni way (although i really do want to get rowdy!) .. Any knowledge as to whether or not the Rowdies are still doing the Hard Rock pre game thing this year at tower city? (as last year was uber cool..) Well, either way I may just have to stop in and have a good luck pre-game toast!
  19. i agree they were pathetic....what was with the clapping and stomping during OUR free throws too?Yeah, as a recent UA alum and former Rowdy I was kind of salty about the stomping during our free throws.. It seemed like a lot of those kids were just there to be there and really had no interest in the game. Or perhaps no understanding of the game? I initially thought they were OU fans when they were screaming during Akron's freethrow attempts.. I mean, I'm not trying to judge anyone's "fanhood" or anything, and I think that it's great that all of those kids came out to the game, but how many would have been there if it weren't greek night? Well anyway, here's hoping those kids enjoyed the win, and hopefully some enjoyed it enough to return for most, if not all, of the home games next season...Also, I was wondering if there is any word about Rowdy/MAC Tourney info as it might pertain to alumni Rowdies, as I and basically all of my Rowdy comrades have since graduated and i no longer have my finger on the pulse of Akron's driving force... i.e. Is there a way to get tickets in the rowdies section somehow, or are alumni basically on their own? This is my first semester as an alumni so you'll have to excuse my cluelessness on this one...
  20. Blog space sin: You didn't post a link.Last week the projected winner of the MAC (UB) was setup with Florida State. I think that would be a great match up for us. Anyone else have a desired matchup for the NCAA Tourney provided we get there?Florida State would be great for rematch, and I'm sure they haven't forgotten about us. If we're going to be somewhere around a 14 seed, we'll end up playing one of the top 15 teams in the country, which means that Brett McKnight will turn into LeBron James again.Brett having jersey number 23 a coincidence? I think not.. Anyway, a rematch against Florida State, but this time in the NCAAs would be absolutely awesome. Here's to not looking past BG though Get it done in the MAC and then hopefully we can make some noise in the post season! Final Four here we come.. LETS GO ZIPS!!
  21. BIG WIN BABY!! 2 MAC East opponents down... 3 to go... whew... I don't know if I can handle this.LETS GO ZIPS!!
  22. And hopefully our Zippers can dismantle Buffalo like they should be able to. After all, they are Canadian... Max Boudreau, product of Montreal Quebec, need I say more? Their prime minister has no desire to find out what the "McKnightmare" is all about (sorry, i mean, abooot)... oh poor canadians...LETS GO ZIPS!!
  23. sounds a bit Can't statish to meDue to the high population of hippies in Colorado you might have something.Ugh... I know it's a joke but seriously... (www.enviroakron.org) UA students also care about socio-environmental relationships. As well we should, living in the post industrial midwest, and caring about the effects that industry and all of its after effects have on us and many of our families as citizens of Akron and Northeast Ohio. I honestly hope that the Info adopts a policy that respects an environmentally responsible business model, much as Colorado has done. It would benefit us all without it making any person a "hippie" or a Can't state alumnus (ugh) as well as being an economically sound way of approaching business..Go Zips! And slaughter the sweaters 1/10/09!
  24. Whew.. Wow what a game. Way to come back and never give up. This team definitely showed some grit tonight. Hope Carroll and C. McKnight didn't sustain too severe of injuries. Now back to the JAR for a big game against the Flyers. I know I'm amped up!Lets go Zips!
