  1. Much bigger crowd than there was Friday night... The locals must know there's a quality opponent in town.
  2. This is WAY better than the comments being made in the "in-game" thread. Playing a top ten team like PSU to start the season will make the remaining 11 games seem easy by comparison. Hopefully we build off of the solid effort put forth by the defense... especially if we make a couple of late additions to the D-line.
  3. Zips win 1-0! Sarkodie earned a PK and Gavin made it count. SMU was a quality side... Great start to the season!
  4. GOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Gavin converts the PK!
  5. 0-0 at half. Slow start, but we had the better of play and more quality chances.
  6. Nagbe hits the outside of the post 7 minutes in...
  7. It made me feel proud to be a Zip that's for sure. Pretty much every seat in the place affords a quality view too. Next steps are to pack the place, bulldoze the rest of Exchange St. to build some nicer looking bars and eateries (it seems terribly run down when you're looking at it past a nice, new video/scoreboard) , and win some games!
  8. I know the feeling. This may possibly be thee biggest women's soccer game between a team from Michigan and a team from Ohio being played that afternoon. My belly button won't stop puckering and unpuckering.Wow, that's harsh... but I laughed. I have to confess that I'm excited to watch the exhibition match against USF on the 21st though. Also, anyone else making the trip to Tulsa for the regular season openers on Labor Day weekend?
  9. Probably not, in and of itself... but Wake also lost six other starters (all of which were selected in the MLS draft) and didn't bring in as good of a recruiting haul as UA. Too bad we don't play them this year or we'd know for sure.
  10. Apologies if this warrants removal for not being relevant enough to Zips soccer, but this is a pretty big loss for Wake (ranked #3 in the CSN poll before this news) and pretty big news for the American college soccer ranks as a whole.Arnoux signs deal with Everton
  11. Anyone know when single game tickets go on sale?
  12. http://www.gozips.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_...amp;SPSID=47179Absolutely stacked with a great mix of national and local talent... and only four seniors (one starter). Season kicks off three months from today, not that I'm counting down or anything.
  13. Another one last night!!!
  14. Nice to add Michigan St. this year. I wonder what's keeping Northwestern and Wisconsin from playing us. They're the only two Big Ten schools not on our schedule.
  15. Well there's some speedy confirmation... and despite how much of a bummer this is, I'm with you.
  16. Has anything been confirmed for sure by someone at UA, or is it still just hearsay at this point?
  17. Well, this is a kick in the taint.
  18. I saw him play in the Ohio D-I final last weekend... he looked like the real deal to me.
  19. Just got home from Portland around 11:30 last night, and much like "GoZips" I would have to characterize the last two weeks as a very wild ride. The Sunday battle (fistfight?) with Can't was to be the first of five games in seven days. Twice last Tuesday I had put my jacket on and was ready to leave The Q, slightly frustrated at the prospect of going out of the MAC Tournament in the opening round, but still happy with how well a very young team played this year and with every confidence that the '09-'10 season would bring a MAC Championship... a certain freshman point guard on one good leg wouldn't let it happen. Two nights later they stumbled (to put it nicely) out of the gates against Miami, then things went from bad to worse when Humpty re-tweaked his ankle... the defense responded to being in a 12 point hole by allowing 38 points in the final 27 minutes and McNees stepped up in Humpty's absence and displayed his best ballhandling (ZERO turnovers by our backcourt in this game) and shooting performance of the year (his four threes in the last ten minutes of the first half all but erased Miami's 12 point lead). The following night against BG, I saw the 13 point lead that the Zips had built in the first half erased with eight minutes to play and I thought once again that our season was over... they responded to the punch in the mouth BG dealt them by closing the game with a 23-12 run (23-9 if you don't count Miller's overshot three that banked in, oi). Chris and Nate (joined the 1,000 point club that night!) were glasseaters that helped us nearly double up BG on the boards, 39-21. The Zips were good to me on Saturday night (which is good because I couldn't take much more after the last three nights and the last two years) and went out dominated Buffalo wire to wire. After four minutes Humpty made a dramatic entrance and buried a three straight away that put UA up 6-5... we never trailed again and got to spend a good part of the second half savoring the victory that would send us to the Big Dance. I've waited a long time to watch the selection show and make the requisite travel arrangements to witness our first tournament game since 1986, and I finally got to do it.Out west, we played about 30 minutes of extremely competitive basketball against what I would call an underrated (and oversized!) Gonzaga team. I started to believe when Humpty made the three-pointer at the 15:00 mark that put us up by six, but unfortunately we went on one of our patented scoring droughts and it would be the last bucket we would score for 13 minutes. We got away with that a few times during the MAC Tournament, but against a team like Gonzaga it just wouldn't fly. I was shocked at how quiet the Gonzaga crowd was, they didn't come to life in the least until they went on their first run midway through the second half. The bottom line is that UA went 23-13, brought home their first MAC Title, and made a great Gonzaga team worry well into the second half... in a "rebuilding" year. Thanks guys (especially Nate!), I enjoyed every moment of watching this team grow and mature from the first jump ball at the JAR to the final buzzer in Portland. I know there are many great things to come!
  20. Just realized I never put my name on the "official" roll... I'm in!
  21. Haha, ZN has been overrun by Zags fans. (I hasten to add that they're a nice and respectable lot).Is it bad to admit that aside of the Morrison years (sorry, didn't care for him) I've always cheered for Gonzaga? I can name you just about every player they've had since the Santangelo/Calvary-led team of '99. It feels like it's been longer than ten years since that team made it to the Elite Eight.
  22. It's almost unbelievable to me that we were these two shots away from not playing this Thursday.
  23. That's the thing though, I'm really hoping to end up with our fans. Anyone know what ticket demand has been like so far? Do I have a good chance of getting tickets tomorrow through UA?
