Bunbury forgoes final two years, signs with MLS
w00t replied to Roo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
3rd Degree's Generation Adidas TrackerLooks like I wasn't the only one confused on Perk, evidently he enrolled at UCLA when he was only 16 years old... The link above also claims that Tchani, Bone, Opara, Mwanga, and Okugo have now all signed MLS contracts as well. -
Dave Giffard leaves for VCU

Congratulations to Coach Giffard! I hear there were a few assistant coaches displaced at Indiana not too long ago... including a former teammate of Coach Porter. -

Perk is a senior. GA is for underclassmen only. But I'm sure you know that. BTW -- Bruin Okugo could be the best member of this GA class if and when he comes out (also, UVa sub Chris Agorsor). And while I agree with your synopsis, Wake refuels fast and another CC cannot be ruled out. I also like UCSB's chances to play at home. Of all the top teams, UCLA is the least proven in big games recent years.Haha, I did know that, but what I didn't know is that Perk was a senior. I guess I had just assumed he was an underclassman because he played for the U-20 squad in Egypt earlier this fall. -

Article on the first four Generation Adidas contracts for 2010Teal and Blair are in great company with Jack McInerney and Dilly Duka as the first four confirmed non-college senior Generation Adidas contracts for 2010. The other six or so players who Galarcep expects to complete the list (released in full in early January) is intriguing as well... including Tchani (Virginia), Bone (Wake Forest), Opara (Wake Forest), Okugo (UCLA). He also lists Oregon St. F Danny Mwanga, but I think Mwanga is set on signing an overseas contract, which might help pave the way for UNC MF Cameron Brown to score a GA contract as well. I was surprised that there's no mention of UCLA GK Brian Perk anywhere.Assuming that the scenario above plays out, Akron would be the Final Four team least beset by graduation/early draft entrants...Akron - Zemanski (MF), Gavin (MF), Bunbury (F)Virginia - Villanueva (MF), Barlow (MF), LaBauex (MF) , Tchani (MF), Evans (F-first off the bench)UNC - Haggarty (GK), Loyd (D), Graye (D), Brown (MF)Wake Forest - Opara (D), Bone (MF), da Luz (MF), Lichtfuss (D), Schilawski (F)UCLA's 2010 recruiting class is incredible, ten strong and heavy on Top 50 prospects. I would call UA, UVA, UCLA and UNC the early teams to beat in 2010. Akron and Virginia both return their entire back five (eight goals surrendered all season for Virginia, seven for Akron). A rematch in Santa Barbara next year is entirely possible. -
Agreed, he would look good in a Red Devils uni ;)Sincerely,-MUFC Fan since I was a wee ladLet's hope Birmingham keep up that winning form against Chelsea next weekend. Sincerely, Another MUFC fan (not quite since I was a wee lad, but close)

You would have absolutely no problem finding a ticket for Sunday... most likely for $10 or less.

Thanks! If anyone is wondering, southerners say Cary stands for....ContainmentArea forRelocated YankeesYou won't see a single native southerner there.Any idea what Raleigh stands for? Not the nicest place I've ever visited in my life by a long shot.

They did secure an alternate site (115 x 70 with field turf) in the event that Lee Jackson was unplayable for the tournament. Thankfully it looks as though we're going to make it through all three games with no weather/field issues.
-
 If any of the three of them see the field at UA, I'd consider it a bonus. It's just as likely that I'll be named our head coach as it is that Henderson will ever play here. Why wouldn't Hoobler see the field?Traditionally our top recruit doesn't pan out for one reason or another, just preparing myself for disappointment. This day (and Indiana University) can pretty much go straight to hell.

Well this morning just turned lousy in a hurry.

Mahalo from the isles, zipsMan. Do you know -- would the UA-UT vs DU-UNC game be the first semi on Friday 12/11? First game is at 5PM EST (noon in HI), second game at 1900/1400.I don't think it's been determined yet.You making the trip to the mainland for the College Cup ZIP?

NCAA Tournament selection show
w00t replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The "Watch Party" is at the Barley House if I heard correctly. -
What? Did one of your friends who "knows a lot about soccer" tell you that?
-
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would hope you don't accept that analysis, because it's nonsense.Anyway, if you'd have told me before the season started that the Zips would own a perfect 18-0-0 record, never need overtime to close out a feisty opponent who packed the box just hoping to tie #1, and that the total time we'd spend behind on the scoreline for the season would be a whopping 35 minutes out of 1,620... I'd have said you're nuts. Soccer balls bounce funny sometimes and I can't think of a sport that's kinder to the fortunes of the weaker side, and yet they still pulled it off. It was a great regular season, but I doubt that the time will sit around enjoying that accomplishment too long. Hopefully seven more games remain. Is it too early to ask where the selection show viewing party will be held next Monday? If we close out NIU and Hartwick! (or WMU) next weekend, I can't imagine not seeing the Zips as the top overall seed on the College Cup bracket.
