  1. Anytime you lose such a deadly finisher it's hard to call it a blessing in any form... but the cupboard will be far from bare and this news was pretty much expected (unlike the pleasant surprise of Coach Porter getting a new contract!).Best of luck to Steve in his professional career!!!
  2. Kyle Whelliston is the man.
  3. I'm still too bummed out from the loss to whine about getting hosed by the govnerning body that's supposed to protect us. :(Oh, and...Last word, quitsies! Anti-quitsies, last word, quitsies, no anti-quitsies, no startsies! You can't do that! Can too! Cannot, stamp it! Can too, double stamp it, no erasies! Cannot, triple stamp, no erasies, Touch blue make it true. No, you can't do that... you can't triple stamp a double stamp, you can't triple stamp a double stamp!!
  4. I respectfully disagree. You didn't experience what the conditions were like today.I didn't see this team turn in an outright poor or uninspired performance all year. They played with plenty of heart today (Matt Tutich has a concussion to prove it if I'm not mistaken) and most of the players were inconsolable after the game.It was a fantastic season, and there is no other sport where UA is so competitive that a loss in the round of 16 means they didn't live up to their seed.Congratulations and thanks to the team and coaches... especially Evan, Matt, Andrew, and Ossie.
  5. Oh, and it's Thanksgiving weekend... guess how much flights to Chicago cost.
  6. I've never been so irate in my life.
  7. And for the love of god it's only Wednesday, is Lee Jackson permanently damaged? How the heck do they know what kind of shape it will be in four days from now?
  8. How the heck can they do this? Play it at Crew Stadium, play it in Bloomington, play it in Florida, play it anywhere but on the home field of a team we were seeded ahead of.I can not believe this. Hopefully Caleb is lobbying hard to get this changed.
  9. The weather sucks man, what do you want them to do? You should have seen the field at the NIU game.I think it plays to our strengths more to hold the game on field turf at a facility closer than the Rubber Bowl is to campus than it would to play the game on our true home field that is waterlogged and torn up.
  10. OBC is just as close to the Jack as it is to SVSM high school... in case you didn't know...I think OBC might actually be a little closer, as the crow flies, to STV-M than to LJ. I may have to stop by for a cold one or five at noon tomorrow and walk to the game! Anyone care to join me? Hopefully we won't be hit by a work day car on Market as we stumble to the game! ;) ;) ;) SeeTeeZipI'm taking the afternoon off tomorrow to catch the game... will you really be at OBC SeeTee?
  11. According to the official website.
  12. Just call me Nostradamus.
  13. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Michigan St. sent packing.Home field is all ours if we keep winning!
  14. ...but MSU misses another as well!
  15. Weak, UIC shoots one wide. 2-2 after 3rd round.
  16. MSU penalty SAVED!!!!! 1-0 UIC
  17. It was played at Oakland, which is in Michigan (just outside of Detroit).
  18. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised with the #5 seed. I had very little faith in the selection committee. I believe that we are a superior team (and had a superior body of work over the course of the season) to Michigan St., but a weak four seed means that if they lose (and I'm predicting that UI-C will beat them in the first round) we get their home game when UI-C, UNC, or LOUISVILLE!!! comes calling for a trip to the Final Four. Unfortunately it would almost assuredly set up a meeting with Wake Forest.Hopefully we get good weather and a HUGE crowd next Tuesday.Edit: Oh, and go Buckeyes... the pleasure of beating them on their own field on senior night AND sending them home for the season would be fantastic. This time we won't give up three goals either.
  19. While I completely understand why the average offensive-extravaganza loving American sports fan finds soccer "boring", it's my favorite sport. If it were divinely appointed to me to pick a Zips sport to win a national championship, the soccer team would be my answer without hesitation. (That's not to say I'm not as excited as anyone that the Zeke Marshall era begins next year and an offense that returns nine starters will take the field at our amazing new football complex in September). I've been going to Zips soccer games pretty regularly for about six years, and I have to say how much I appreciate how well the Rowdies have come out in support of the Socceroos the past couple seasons. I've also never seen a team so personally involved with and appreciative of the fan support as our soccer team, and it's a wonderful thing. I've always loved coming to Zips soccer games, but when you're alongside a large group of energetic and engaged fans it takes it to another level. I think that's what 'Big Zips Fan' kind of touched on is that it's still on a smaller scale relative to football where crowd size and general interest in the sport are concerned... BZF I would encourage you to stick with it, Zips soccer (and soccer in general) is a rewarding sport to enjoy watching, and hopefully the day will come when a Zips soccer loss can ruin your week. They may not draw as big of a crowd as the football team, but there's a family type atmosphere that has its own appeal.Anyway, hopefully there are still five games left this season... and any of them could be the last that Evan, Matt, Ossie, and possibly Steve play in a Zips uniform. If you haven't made it out to a game yet, there's a good chance that we'll have two (maybe even three) home games in the upcoming NCAA tournament. Hopefully Lee Jackson will still be packed (and loud!) despite the cold weather.Edit: Haha, well done as usual Cap'n.
  20. Latest RPI (released last night)#1 - Wake Forest (17-0-1)#2 - St. John's (15-1-3)#3 - Indiana (10-5-3)#4 - Maryland (15-3-0)#5 - Akron (15-1-3)Wish luck to Michigan #6, Notre Dame #8, Oakland #29, Buffalo #32 (until they play us), and Ohio St. #33 in their respective tournaments to help our numbers out. Indiana plays Ohio State (who should be very motivated seeing as they're nowhere near a sure bet to get into the tournament) on Thursday, go Buckeyes!!! It would be hard to see a six loss team that we tied seeded ahead of us. Hopefully Michigan wins the Big Ten Tournament and passes us in the RPI as there's virtually no chance that a team we beat head-to-head would get seeded ahead of us either.
  21. Unbelievable game, one of the best I've ever seen. Fighting back from 2-1 and 3-2 down to score two goals in the last 15 minutes. The defense didn't turn in their best performance of the year, but two strikes from Zakuani and one each from Zemanski & Gavin bailed them out. Three busloads of Rowdies showed up and were rewarded with a hard fought victory and a speech by Coach Porter after the game. :)Well done Socceroos... the MAC Tournament and the College Cup beckon. It was a great night to be a Zip.
