It put my worried mind at ease too. This kid is supposed to be reeeeeealy good.

I'm with you guys, those are the toughest two remaining games.

Thanks for the scoop ZIP. Makes a great evening even better! (Also, we will need to reload after this season).

Emoticon of the year.

Thanks for the video post, still can't believe that Warzycha did that... never seen anything like that before on the soccer field and hope I never do again. On the whole I think this result will be to our benefit... and it would be nice to meet them again in the tournament and show them what we've really got. I expect a very hungry team of Socceroos to get back on track and probably win by a touchdown tonight.

the only thing the zips learned is "dont except to get ANY calls when you play the Buckeyes" Yes, there were no penalty kicks awarded to the Zips or red cards doled out to the Buckeyes. We played a lousy game, get over it. Spoken like someone who wasn't there. This wasn't a loosely officated game, this was a case of the Buckeyes pushing us around and when we attempted to push back WE GOT whistled and/or carded. The red card was one of the most blatant acts of unsportsmanlike conduct i've ever witnessed and to be honest, two of their players should have been ejected from that as another one took a swing at one of our players. Like i said before, anyone that was there saw how bad it was. Spoken like someone who complains about the ref every time we lose or has some insane conspiracy theory every time something bad happens to us. Actually I was there. I saw some lousy calls go both ways... and the refs had N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with last night's result. Lack of focus, shoddy execution, and an entirely too passive approach with a one-goal lead had everything to do with it. oh im sorry, you were there...However i'm sure it was your first soccer match.

If we keep it within two touchdowns I'll be pleasantly surprised. Depends on how well we stop the run I guess. NIU 31 - Akron 13

Soccer the most profitable program at Akron??
w00t replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
No, soccer operates at a loss. Football operates at a massive loss. -
I couldn't say enough about how well he's done so far. I expected him to be good, but not this good. Great in the air, wins 50-50 balls, keeps possession, and demonstrates leadership... oh, and he's leading the team in scoring. We'd better enjoy it while we can, I can't imagine he'll be around too long.

I heard that 4,200 was the official capacity for now... they reported last Friday's match as a sellout. And there was PLENTY of space for people to fit in still. Here's hoping they pack at least a few more hundred in for tomorrow's match then, it would set an attendance record!

Thanks Woot. Is this only for "pro" (I'm ignorant to what league your example is)? Can I bet on college (Akron) somewhere? If I am to give this sport another chance, I am going to have to put some coin on it to make it interesting. Betting can make a game of marbles interesting. The line posted above is from an upcoming English Premier League match. Unfortunately there is no place (that I know of at least) to bet on college soccer. -

Soccer betting is generally available as a bet on team 1 to win, a bet on team 2 to win, or bet on a draw. For example, Man U vs. Bolton this weekend is Man U (-222), Bolton (+600), and draw (+300). There are variations available online (draw is no action, goal spread, other props based on total goals, team to score first, etc.), but in Vegas the option above is usually the only action to be found. -
This is nothing to be ashamed of, it's hilarious. Almost as funny as when Puddles the Duck beat the crap out of Shasta the Cougar.

Are you really suggesting that the NCAA actually instructed a soccer referee to purposely make biased calls against UA? (More broadly, are you really suggesting that the NCAA cares about soccer?) Get a grip people, the official was indeed lousy yesterday, but the cries of "The NCAA is out to get us" everytime something remotely bad happens are getting ridiculous. I guess my sarcasm wasn't as obvious as I thought it. my bad. Ha, maybe I wouldn't have missed it if these types of posts weren't routine (and not meant in jest).

USMNT-er Bryan Gallego will arrive and I believe he can play right back, so defense will be fine as zoomtime noted. Starting MF would likely be Speas, Trapp, Nanchoff, and Caldwell. The dynamic duo of Jamaicans would play up front. That's a solid starting 11 before Caleb reaches into his bag of tricks (who had any idea that Mattocks and Tulloch would be here this year?) The cupboard will be far from bare after losing what looks like FOUR first round draft picks. Incredible. That being said, I do think this is the strongest team we have put out, or will put out in the near future. I would expect that there are no less than ten players on this roster who will play in the MLS someday.

If you guys were shaking hands with Josh after and gretting Giff before the game then I'm sure they knew there was no real malice intended on a personal level (and no doubt Josh has already gotten his worst "away game" experience out of the way for this season and he'll be better off for it)... but please dear god never compare that white trash piece of garbage Bubba Walther to Yoram or Josh. Bubba left because he thought he wasn't getting enough playing time and respect for someone as good as HE thought he was. Mwila and Pantazelos had no such delusions about themselves and had a great chance to start over and get quality playing time with the coach that recruited them and they took it... even though it meant taking a step down with respect to the quality of the program they were joining. They also didn't quit mid-year and join a conference rival. I certainly didn't mean any disrespect to the Rowdies by my comment, I think they're great... I probably should have just left that one alone.

The first 20 minutes were nothing to write home about, but they seemed to settle in after that (hope the field conditions improve, Meves wasn't the only one having problems getting good footing early on). All of the newcomers look solid, which of course is exciting. Kitchen is very vocal and seems like a natural leader even as a Freshman. Mattocks and Tulloch are both big and athletic and HUSTLE like crazy... they will give opponents fits up front. Nanchoff was missing due to his hamstring bothering him. Pantazelos made a couple of good saves for VCU. I didn't really like the Rowdies giving Giffard, Pantazelos, and Mwila a hard time... all three played a part in what was a great season last year and I don't think they deserved the "AK-RON RE-JECTS" chant. Speaking of Rowdies, there were a ton of them and they were extremely loud. Barson nearly got on the scoresheet late in the game as well but was denied by a defender who looked from my vantagepoint to have handled the ball. There's no doubt in my mind we have the most dynamic back four in the NCAA. There was a GREAT crowd for a preseason match, but I'd be interested to hear how it was counted, because I think 2,835 is stretching it a bit. For what it's worth (probably not much), Virginia beat VCU 1-0 in their first preseason match. Almost there, can't wait to head to NC next Friday!

Wake Forest on Sept 5 - GP1?
w00t replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I'll be there... I was hoping to meet "the great" GP1 as well. -
Stop the madness, there is only one thing that OU really cares about http://news.lalate.com/2009/07/27/princeto...y-schools-2010/ Steve Coleman is back on the team. Apparently someone spoke sense to him. If true, then OU really dodged one here. Their only concern next year might be the lack of a true center, which you can usually get away with in the MAC.

JupiterDouche you're out of character... you're supposed to tell us that it doesn't matter because US News & World Reports latest rankings are out and OU's Art History and American Studies programs came in first in the NATION!

Ahahahahahaha, it appears he's gone "Ron Artest" on them. Hey coach can I get some time off to promote my album? Please let this be true, just for the jokes.
