  1. Doesn’t look like the Buffalo Punter ever had possession. Really looking forward to next year. Go Zips!
  2. This was a horrible call. Should not have been ruled a Safety. It was a TD by Grant Gainer or worse case it is Zips ball on half yardline. The punter never regained control of the ball. That was the first of many "Get Buffalo to a Bowl Game" calls ordered by the MAC. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=35165341
  3. From GoZips.com...The Akron Zips men's basketball program will open the 2022-23 season against South Dakota State at James A. 6. According to the University of Akron's Facebook page: In the TV series "The College Tour" - each episode focuses on a different college and presents its narrative through the eyes of its students. This episode shines a nice light on UA and the city of Akron. The College Tour episode about The University of Akron is available here...
  7. Great event and turnout at Lock 3. Coach Moorhead and the captains mingled with the crowd and took pictures. Then JoMo addressed the crowd and introduced the captains. Nice job by the U of A and the City of Akron.
  8. Two Sundays in a row during the NFL season. Browns are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. both days (Dec. 4 & 11). Always difficult to draw for non-conference games. At least I hope Charles doesn't go head-to-head with the Browns.
  9. Is UA doing anything special for tailgating on September 1 for Game One? I have not seen or heard anything.
  10. ALL are welcome to enjoy free food, drinks and performances by “Ohio’s Pride,” the University of Akron marching band, OpenTone Music’s Amistad Caribbean Arts Ensemble and the popular, New Orleans-based, Dirty Dozen Brass Band. 11. No. They didn't send it in a link that can be shared. I will watch Twitter and Facebook to see if they run it there.
  12. I received it in an email from the Downtown Akron Partnership - suziegraham@downtownakronpartnership.ccsend.com

  14. Nice article. Love the mentality...“We have guys who have won conference championships from past years who have come in,” he said. “That's our standard now. That's our goal every day we get on the field − that we're winning the MAC championship this year and winning a bowl game or playing 14 games this year. That's our goal. We don't talk about a 12-game season. We're planning to play 14 every day.” Teammates once again: Archbishop Hoban players reunite with Akron Zips (beaconjournal.com) https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2022/08/09/archbishop-hoban-players-reunite-with-akron-zips-college-football-mac-caden-clark-grant-gainer/65394434007/
  15. A Successfull 2022 is 5+ wins with one of those being against KSUcks. The Zips need to take Sean Lewis down a notch or two.
  16. Our turf was installed in 2009 and Ohio State is replacing their turf which is 8 years old. I think the average artificial turf is supposed to last a maximum of 10 years.
  17. I think the reason that the MAC logos are facing the same way are for televised games.
  18. Ben Iannachione, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is a fascinating guy. Great appearance on the podcast Cutoffs and Coffee. Moorehead has brought in some great people. Episode 43: Ben Iannachione, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Akron Zips Football Team - YouTube

  20. From February 22, 2022... https://www.rblandmark.com/2022/02/22/lths-boys-look-to-snatch-first-sectional-title-since-2001/ From March 23, 2022... https://www.rblandmark.com/2022/03/23/local-high-school-basketball-players-named-all-state/ Lyons Township senior Tavari Johnson was named to the second team and Riverside-Brookfield senior J.P. Hanley to the third team of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association boys basketball Class 4A All-State Team. Johnson also received honorable mention on the Associated Press 4A All-State Team.
  21. The NCAA Division I rule addresses the status of an athletic scholarship in this situation in Bylaw 15.5.1.7 “Aid After Departure of Head Coach.” Basically, this rule says that when a head coach who recruited and provided a scholarship to a DI student-athlete is replaced, the new head coach has the right to not invite an athlete back to the team the following year. The athlete may, however, be given the right to stay at the school on scholarship until the athlete graduates with their degree. The benefit of this rule for the athlete is that they can continue to receive their scholarship while working to complete their degree. The benefit to the new coach is that the athlete’s scholarship won’t count against the team limit in that sport so the coach can use that scholarship to recruit another athlete. 22. My understanding is if they are cut the school has to honor the remaining years.
  23. The story I heard is that UA has to honor each players four year scholarship. A scholarship player can be removed from the team but it is still the financial responsibility of UA to offer and provide them four years of education (total). Cutting scholarship guys is not an added finacial burden UA wants to risk. So they only cut a certain number of the walk-ons.
