Is there a "big announcement" in the agenda? Oh, and congrats Zipmeister. You were the first to get me all day. And I've had co-workers trying since 4am. I actually suggested a "big announcement" weeks ago to help set up this morning's communication. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no such announcement planned (hope I'm wrong).

Thank God that wheel barrel isn't any lower.

This is even bigger than the rumors I have heard circulating. Forget about leaving the MAC...the rest of the country is coming to us.USA Today / Associated Press9:00 a.m. EDT, April 1, 2008In a press conference held this morning in South Bend, Indiana, Mid-American Conference commissioner Rick Chryst together with Temple University President, Dr. Ann Weaver Hart, and Notre Dame President, the Reverend John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., made a joint announcement sure to rock the college sports world. Mr. Chryst announced to a stunned group of reporters that both Temple and Notre Dame will be joining the Mid-American Conference as fully affiliated members beginning in 2011, participating in all conference men’s and women’s sports. The addition of these two programs will bring total Mid-American Conference membership up to fourteen teams that will compete in two divisions. Temple, already a football-only member of the Conference, will participate in the George Gipp Division while Notre Dame will compete in the Knute Rockne Division. The George Gipp Division will also include present MAC members the University of Akron, the University of Buffalo, Bowling Green State University, Can't State University, Miami University and Ohio University. The Knute Rockne Division, in addition to the Fighting Irish, will include Ball State University, Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Northern Illinois University, the University of Toledo, and Western Michigan University. Some analysts credit the Chryst-Notre Dame connection, at least in part, for this stunning turn of events. Commissioner Chryst was on the Notre Dame baseball team and in 1983 was honored with the school’s Byron V. Kanaley Award, which has been presented each year since 1927 to senior monogram athletes who have been exemplary as both students and athletes. In related announcements, Mr. Chryst announced that in 2011 the MAC would begin competition in men’s fencing, hockey and lacrosse as well as women’s fencing, lacrosse and rowing. Notre Dame currently fields varsity teams in each of these sports. In addition, it was announced that the Mid-American Conference office would be relocating from Cleveland, Ohio to South Bend, Indiana later in 2008.When asked why Notre Dame had decided to join the Mid-American Conference, viewed by most observers as a significant downgrade to their athletic program, the Reverend Jenkins responded, “Competing successfully in football at the BCS level as an independent school has become quite difficult. All one has to do to appreciate this fact is to look at our record over the last few years. We believe that competing in the Mid-American Conference will provide our fans with an exciting brand of both football and basketball, and dramatically increase the probability that we can win our homecoming game.” Dr. Hart, concurred with Reverend Jenkins and also commented on the favorable budgeting impacts at Temple which resulted from their 2007 move to the conference in football, stating, “I think the folks at Notre Dame will be pleased with the result on their football win/loss record. We could not win squat until we joined the MAC, plus we cut our travel expenses in half.”

New practice facility for Heath and Hipsher
Zipmeister replied to ZZZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Two questions......When did Tulsa move from Oklahoma? Are the folks at Tulane upset about the move? -
You are missing an obvious and inexpensive solution to your problem............................refrigerator magnets!!That's right, little brightly colored magnetic pieces with all the great things you want to say about the University printed right on them, and every time someone goes to the fridge to get a can of beer or what not, what do they see? Good things about the UofA, and since they are getting one of their basic needs (food) satisfied while reading the messages on the fridge magnets they will be unconsciously formulating a positive psychological bond between food and the UofA which will make the message on the magnets even more powerful than they would be without the psychological boost. This is definitely a win-win situation, and someone should get right on this before those bastards at CSU or K.E.N.T figure it out.

GoZips.com doesn't even have last year's "future schedule" right. The only ones who would know anything would be the Mack Rhoades or someone in his office.I wouldn't count on that. You know folks in TN have their own way ah speakin. Maybe they meant Alcorn State.

Well I'm not so sure about that, but isn't it great we are finally getting some fighting cav chat going on here?

Reminds me of the first pornographic line ever heard on television.June to Ward Clever, "Ward, you were a little hard on the Beaver last night."

He may struggle for playing time at Walsh as they have numerous young running backs there including Tallman, Blossomgame, Corey, Reine', Sharif, Cox, Beichler and Papania.
-
Yes, with the coaching staff's pledge to stop recruiting running backs, we will certainly be hurting in this area in two years.

You may think he is an idiot now, but within a month something BIG is going to break which should change your mind (and this is a four-star Zipmeister/Wisconsin lock").

Here I am boys. I hope you have all learned a valuable lesson from this experience. Never Ever trust what an Athletic Director tells you. According to an unnamed person, who currently has a job in Akron, the previous athletic administration overbooked the 2008 season and the league office was going to line up another MAC team to take our place on the Badger's schedule (I have the original email to prove this if anyone would like to make a wager concerning my veracity). Apparently the replacement is us. My best guess is (and I'm not asking any AD for the story this time) is that lacking any volunteer replacements, Wisconsin decided to play hardball to enforce the Akron contract and it was easier to buy our way out of the Kentucky game.Regarding your suggestion that I eat crow, I have one thing to say.................pass the mustard.

If that game ends up being played, you will never be able to show your face around here again. Actually I have never shown my face here at all.If that game gets played, I was misinformed by a very prominent person at "Akron U."

With the rise of the Bearcats under Kelly, I would hope for a good crowd for this one as well. I don't think it necessarily has to sell out to justify the new stadium though.Does anyone else thing there might be a slight "nostalgia" effect that could boost overall attendance in the last year at the Bowl? I think it's very possible, and I hope the U plays it up that way.Wasn't the consensus on this board that the Badger game is dead for 2008?No it's not a consensus. Although the game was removed from our schedule nearly 2 years ago, many here still think we are going to play the game. Must be Democrats, they believe in change.

You can add at Wisconsin on Aug. 30, 2008http://www.uwbadgers.com/sport_news/fb/schedule/?sportid=111 OKlets add a home date with Nebraska on August 23, 2008 and a home date with Michigan State on September 13, 2008.

Consider the following figures. I’ll bet no matter which side of the debate you are on, you can use some of them to support your point of view.Is 21 points a lot to score in a college football game?During the last two seasons we have scored 21 or more points in 11 of 24 games played. Our record in those 11 games? 8-3. During the last two seasons we have scored 20 or fewer points 13 times. Our record in those games? 1-12.One subtle issue some people seem to overlook is that it is a combination of the offensive and defensive effort that results in the final outcome. In games where we score more than our opponent, we were a perfect 9-0. But, In games where our opponent scored more points than, us we end up a dismal 0-15.We should focus on doing more of the former.

Interest seemed to be running in only one direstion. There would be some evidence that he is a smart dude if he had a scholarship offer from Harvard, Yale, Northwestern or North Carolina.
-
So, if I interpret this report correctly, we still have a shot at this guy.
-
I think we could swing that. With 50 guys that would be just over a dime apiece.
-
When you're strung out on the reefer there is no i in team and there is no u in buy.
-
The good news for him is Buffalo appears to have a few scholarships available. The good news for us is we don't need him.

multiple choice:a. another technical screw upb. the news conference is delayedc. the university has dropped footballd. none of the above

GoZips88 Posted Today, 02:12 PM QUOTEWisconsin is pretty much off the Zips 2008 schedule. Will we get I-AAAA North Carolina Backwoods here or at their place next year to fill the gap? Any word on what fund-raisers the program will be hosting to make up for the lost revenue? Seriously - any word, CK, on who will fill in for the Badgers? Seriously - some of you guys are really hung up on the imaginary Wisconsin game. We are not playing them. They have not been on our 2008 schedule for about 2 years. They were at one time BUT not anymore. No one needs to fill in for a team that we are not playing. We already have 12 regular season games scheduled. Thats the most we can schedule unless one of the games is against Hawaii. We don't play Hawaii in 2008 either. Maybe we can schedule Hawaii.
