  1. So when they post my RB story and still use some blogger for coverage of the UofA Vs Wisconsin game. How did sharing my RB story help?it helps in general interest. people in the city read the article and read your story and get interested in the history of our old stadium and the future of our new stadium. maybe people see what the RB used to be and visit it just to see. even if they have no other storys about us ever atleast this one will help usWhat help do we need? The general interests is already there. UofA a couple of so called well know firms that do studies on the area and business potential and the like and they told UofA at best they'd sell 5 to 8 skyboxes. Not only did UofA sellout all 13 skyboxes. They're now slowly building lists for future interests. The sales are great for season tickets for ICS.The only thing lacking is sports coverage. The general interests is there and usually the hottest blogs at the ABJ outside of politics. We don't need more general interests help from the ABJ. We need some decent sports coverage to go with the general interests we already have.so are you telling me that we are to the point of not needing any help what so ever? theres a little saying that goes make hay while the sun shines. well the sun is kinda bright at the moment so lets take every little angle we can. I personaly don't think hat this will do anything other than help. yes the ABJ should do more with Akron in sports but that doesn't mean we should pass this opportunity up.
  2. one more thing. I don't think we should take the incompetence of the sports writers out on the lady trying to write up this article. if any of you feel so inclined to send her some memories on the bowl her E-Mail is kmcmahan@thebeaconjournal.comshe asks that you include name phone number and contact info.her name is Kim btw
  3. Cover the teams and I'll be interested. Don't cover the teams and I could care less. Hope you like their wire report on the Wisconsin game.BTW - I'm heading up to Wisconsin. I'll write about it. And I won't ask the ABJ for a dime.I agree. don't get me wrong I think the BJ should do a better job of covering the zips and Akron in general I just don't want to see us pass up on an article that could potentialy raise interest in our program and stadium's current and future.and as always I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Akron Wisconson game

  5. I'm not asking anyone to fall in love with these guys and take the chocolates. they are giving us an opportunity for a great story and I think we should take it. this probably wont translate into great all time coverage but if we have the shot for a great story that could get people interested in the university and it's new stadium shouldn't we take it? and if your still pressing for more coverage than good for you it just drives me nuts that everyone complains about the lack of coverage and now that they are giving us an opportunity to gain some coverage all you want to do is bash them. look at it as business they probably wont be into us for long so lets just go ahead and get whatever milk we can from this cow while it's interested
  6. so if everyone is done with them then why is everyone still complaining. I look at it like this you can complain as long as you are trying to do something but the moment you stop trying then you also need to stop complaining because you aren't going to do anyone any good. further more this complaining is only going to give the ABJ ammunition to fire at us with.
  7. At least the ABJ, unlike some politicians, isn't promising any change. You go ahead and sing Kunbaya and drink the Kool Aid.I'm just saying that it's pathetic that you guys complain as much as you do and the moment you have a chance to realy do something about it you just continue to do nothing more than complain

    Frye

I hate to say it but CHarlie didn't do all that great. grant it there was two passes that should have been caught for TD's
  9. ok this is something that just ticks me off. everyone here always complains about the ABJ's lack of coverage when it comes to the UofA now they want to do something and they are ASKING US FOR HELP!! and all you guys want to do is cry about how it used to be!? look if you don't want anything to change then just go ahead and sit at home with your thumbs up your butts and continue to wonder why they don't shower us with love. however if you want to help make a difference and want a change then go put in some ideas. tell them that this university is loved and stop all the trolls that are on there now from putting down what you and I hold dear.
  10. F the Beacon in the skull. The reason they want the stories is because they haven't covered the Zips for a decade!! They have no Rubber Bowl history in their files!. Maybe they should reference their AP wire stories? I'm not doing the Beacon's work for them. I've done it for a decade. That's enough.come on now capin. we have been wanting them to pay us attention for years and now that they are finaly reaching out to us your gonna say screw em? if you go and read the comments on there it's kinda sad. I think we need to step up here and show them that we care and support this and that the last game in the ol bowl will be a very important thing to cover
  11. funny that there is no place to leave comments.anyone else read the little thing at the end stating the Akron Ball state time change so that fans can also watch the OSU game? not pointing this out to knock on OSU but thats just pathetic on our behalf
  12. I hope the mediators award the nemers a bag of M&M's a long with a swift kick in the pants. that would still be more than their dive is worth but I'm a nice guy who likes to see people get a little extra
  13. I heard the wall going into the stadium was vandlaized but not the scoreboard. I hope they didn't do anything to their new score board. there is another thread on this already if you wanna look it up
  14. first of all you realy can't use DA and Frye's first season stats to explain the coaching staffs decision in starting DA instead simply because DA didn't have that year as a starter when charlie got the axe and second I don't think anyone here thinks charlie is without falt in losing his job. yes his first year he didn't have any kind of line what so ever and his one game of his second year as a starter the line wasn't ready for a pukesburg D but he still held the ball far to long and didn't trust his reads. I hope that has changed some in seattle and I hope he gets a starting job again somewhere else where he can shine and also bring some more light to the good ole U of A(side rant)did anyone else get peeved watching the pro bowl game when they made no mention of Akron although they said "there are several SMALL colleges around here" and even though the redskins biggest pickup was a future HOF who graduated from Akron?I think it does factor in though, because the argument that many have is that either A) Frye didn't get a chance, The coaches/Browns didn't know what they were doing. And both arguments would seem to be wrong at this point.it helps justify but not explain.they couldn't make a decision based on stats they didn't yet have and yes at this point in time you win Charlie sucks and is the scum of the earth but I still have hope that he can turn it around and prove many wrong

  16. well they are the ones who complain about attendance so I think this just might help
  17. so when we take down memorial are we going to move the names that are on the wall honoring those who gave their lives in WWII or are we just gonna turn it into a pile of rubble. I agree that it's time to say goodbye to memorial but I hope we relocate the names
  18. I'm actually kinda excited to watch OSU get their heads stomped in against a team that isn't overrated
  19. now they can watch themselves get beat down in high def
  20. so don't put goodyears name on the tire. or maybe go to them to get some funding for this thing. maybe goodyear didn't donate any money to the stadium because no one asked them to. maybe if we can use this tire to get the door open back up between goodyear and the U.
  21. Yea, the only problem is the larger the tire, the heavier it will be. Some of the really big tires probably weigh several TONS! This would pose a problem if the tire tipped over. I'm sure the engineering dept. could come up with something. Low tech (an outrigger) or high tech (a gyroscopic balancing device). After our $1.5 million dollar investment to get a tire to become a drum, we could boast that it is the most advanced drum in the world!I think making a tire drum would actually be easyer that that. just go out into the country and get an old tractor tire spray paint it black to give it that fresh from the factory look and mount a drum in it.of course you could get a monster truck tire but it would probably be impracticle and far too heavy wich is exactly why we got rid of the old one
  22. I think the whole tire drum thing would be a great way to link us to our rich history of inventions. and besides the rubber era was probably a far better era for Akron than today. if you think the place was dirty then I would hate to hear your thoughts on it now. Akron has been the home of so many inventions that we would have to pick one to go with. one day the polymer thing just might dry up and then what would we do with a "polymer tire" I want the tire drum back because it is a uniqe way to celebrate Akrons rich history in a way that would give us a staple for our sporting events.
  23. I think the Akron Band needs a "staple" if you would. with the building of goodyears new headquarters and the new stadium I think this would be the perfect time to bring back the tire drum. and besides Akron is still known as the rubber city and just because Firestone isn't here anymore doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate our uniqe history
  24. the way I always pictured the tire drum was like this.a huge tire (b0ig enough to fit a bass drum and a drummer in) put the little drummer boy in there and have the cheerleaders push him around for a song or two. just don't stand close after the drummer gets out
  25. so does this mean the band will bring back the tire drum? I sure hope so
