  1. Very nice..Player of the Month. I recognize Ampai's 2010 Senior Class Award and the Zips' 2010 NCAA D1 Men's Soccer National Champions Trophy pictured at the bottom of the inset on the right.
  2. Nice find @TennZip ...The actual transaction for Najem looks like this: New York Red Bulls trade the Right of First Refusal to Adam Najem to Philadelphia. The Union traded their 2018 Natural 2nd Round SuperDraft pick to New York Red Bulls. The Union traded away their second round pick of next years draft, for a potential top ten pick from this past draft had Najem entered. This is incredibly smart on the parts of Earnie Stewart and Chris Albright. These two have totally revamped this team. This signing is essentially the Union getting a top ten first round draft pick. Which is monumental, especially since Philly didn’t have a first round pick this past draft. The Najem deal is the icing on the cake for an offseason full of smart moves. let’s look at some of the newest signings accolades. ...
  3. In addition to our returning players, I'm looking forward to meeting and seeing Morgan Hackworth in action with the Zips.
  4. ...You don’t have to follow college soccer at all to know the impact the University of Akron has had in Major League Soccer in recent years. Just rattling off a short list of names you’d recognize will tell you everything you need to know. Names like DeAndre Yedlin, Darlington Nagbe, Wil Trapp, Scott Caldwell, Darren Mattocks, Zarek Valentin and Kofi Sarkodie, who have all found success since entering the league dating back to 2010....

  6. Did you catch the link at the end of the article? The first such deal was done in 2011...referring to Caleb Porter trading fro Bryan Gallego's HG rights, also from NYRB.
  7. http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/post/2017/02/08/get-know-adam-najem Najem played all four seasons at Akron, competing in 89 games for the Zips and accumulating 95 points during his career. In every season, the Zips made the NCAA tournament; its best run being the team’s College Cup semifinal appearance in 2015. Najem was named to the All-MAC First Team every season at Akron, and also received First-Team NSCAA Academic All-American honors in 2015 and 2016.
  8. It's not just happening to our Zips Mens Soccer program.... https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/pro-prospects:-leaving-early-edition_aid41428
  9. Looks like he won't be joining the Zips for awhile though... https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/cameron-victor/pid-90423 EDIT: More info http://intr.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=1400699&player=29750385
  10. It's easy to sell success. I'd happily attend some matches there if it wasn't so far away. I might have to consider a Cincinnati/Dayton weekend where I go to an FC Cincy match and the Museum of the Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB. I enjoyed the Zips Spring match at FC Cincy, including some great bars very near the stadium. It seems like it would be an excellent experience/atmosphere. Add in that both Aodhan Quinn and Eric Stevenson are with FC Cincy this season...would definitely be enjoyable.
  11. Nice to see Eric Stevenson show up a number of times in Cincy's video submitted with their application for MLS expansion.
  12. Kudos again to TennZip for pointing me to this article...http://www.phillysoccerpage.net/2017/02/03/transcript-jim-curtins-preseason-conference-call/comment-page-1/ On Adam Najem Yeah, he’s been excellent in training. He gets goals and assists, which I already knew about — you just have to look at his statistics to know that he can do that. He’s shown in the short time with us that he can do that at the MLS level. He’s been very strong in each and every training session, and actually has an ability to cover more ground and do the defensive work that we ask our no. 10 to do, even more so than I anticipated. So, high on him, hopefully, we’ll see what’s coming in the next couple of days. Adam has done everything to show very well, has made it clear that he wants to be a Philadelphia Union player just by being here. Hopefully something can come of that in the coming days. But I’ve been very impressed. Good kid, humble kid, quiet, incredible work rate and ability around the goal to score and set up goals that is special. Guys that are in our league who’s not the biggest, you think of a Mauro Diaz — I think I described him at dinner the other day as a Mauro Diaz-Benny Feilhaber combo. Again, that’s getting ahead of ourselves, but you can kind of think of the attributes of those two guys with the similar size to a Diaz, for a young kid. Again, don’t say I’m calling him the next Mauro Diaz, because that’s a little fast. But he’s done very well, and for the people who maybe don’t know what he’s about, that would be a comp of skill sets that I see.
  13. Thanks Scott. I love reading how much NYG fans loved our guys. The last SuperBowl I enjoyed was when the NYG with Hixon & Blackburn won it. Unfortunately, I agree with your other comments.
  14. So, let's forget the 3 Zips who have SuperBowl rings, huh? NFL careers aren't necessarily long. I'd say Dwight Smith, Domenik Hixon, and Chase Blackburn were good NFL players and made good use of their time in the league...HoF caliber or not.
  15. My two cents: Looking at Wikipedia, TO appears to have a more extensive set of statistics, but JT seems to do better on character Jason Taylor, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Taylor_(American_football) 5 Personal Life 5.1 Foundation Terrell Owens, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrell_Owens 5 Controversy 5.1 Controversy with Eagles 5.2 Desperate Housewives skit 5.3 2006 Hydrocodone overdose 5.4 Spitting incident 9 Other work 9.1 The T.O. 16. Eric Stevenson's goal up for USL Goal of the Year. Voting for the final round is now open and will continue through 9:00 AM ET on Monday, February 13. Vote here
  17. I think MLS is doubtful at this point, although Kofi Sarkodie was picked up by the Earthquakes after the start of the 2016 preseason, if I recall correctly. Perhaps a lower level team here in the US or Canada or a team somewhere in Europe. If Europe, I'm thinking perhaps like Zarek Valentin did for awhile before joining TimbersFC.
