  1. Oh, is that what it was. I was texting Bisbee during the Sounders game that DeAndre was playing a great game (subbed in in the 2nd half), but something was wrong with the feed. I was seeing so much snow. The Sounders won 2-0 thanks to DeAndre and Steve (who were on the field together in the 2nd half) having experience in those conditions, I'm sure. http://www.soundersfc.com/news/articles/20...-red-bulls.aspx (http://www.soundersfc.com/~/media/e89d7f3e...eeebccd7e1.ashx)
  2. And "Coaching Style: Defending"
  3. Zemanski thrilled for fresh start with former mentor Porter ...Zemanski and Porter certainly have a successful history. The two teamed for three straight conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances from 2007-09, including a run to the final in Zemanski's final year. He was also teammates with Timbers midfielder/forward Darlington Nagbe for two seasons at Akron. ...
  4. Nice article about Scott Caldwell published a few days ago: Caldwell Getting Re-acclimated A comment by NE Revs staff writer yesterday on twitter during the Revs preseason match with the Sounders which we Zips Soccer fans already know.
  5. Looks like things are going well for Ampai and Buriram United... http://anthonyampaipitakwong.wordpress.com...-cup-champions/ Because we won the FA Cup, this qualified us to play a wild card game on February 13 against one of the top teams in Australia, Brisbane Roar FC, at our home stadium. Who ever wins this game will advance into the AFC Champions League. We have begun training and preparing for this coming game for many weeks. There are a lot of new faces to the squad in 2013 so a big part of pre season has been finding team chemistry and getting to know the new players. https://twitter.com/AnthonyAmpai/status/301691883137146880 What an Amazing win. After two cramps, two overtimes, some pks, we are heading to Japan for the AFC Champions League! Su Su Buriram EDIT: http://www.the-afc.com/en/tournaments/club...v-brisbane-roar ...Theo was again called into action six minutes before half-time to deny Kai Hirano before Anthony Ampaipitakwong fired an effort just wide of the Brisbane upright following good work from Theerathon Bunmathan in the last minute of the first half. ...
  6. Timbers acquire right of first refusal to Michael Nanchoff from Whitecaps FC in exchange for 2015 Supplemental Draft Pick
  7. Happy to see that as well. Timbers acquire midfielder Ben Zemanski from Chivas USA ..."We’re pleased to add a player of Ben’s caliber, as he has proved to be an impact player in this league and fits the ethos of our club,” said Porter. “He brings an additional competitive presence that we are confident will help advance the culture of this club even further.”... A native of Akron, Ohio, Zemanski played collegiately in his hometown at the University of Akron from 2006-09. He helped the Zips claim three straight conference championships and make three NCAA tournament appearances from 2007-09, including a trip to the NCAA College Cup finals in 2009. A two-time All-Mid-American Conference selection, Zemanski played in 86 matches, recording nine goals and 14 assists during his collegiate career. He ranked among the nation’s assist leaders as a junior with 10 assists in 2008. Zemanski also garnered Academic All-America third-team honors and was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award following his senior season in 2009.

  9. Perhaps use the "Caleb's Porterland Timbers FC" thread.
  10. The last time I was in the bookstore in the Student Union (probably a month or more ago), they had 2011/12 Akron Mens Soccer jerseys. I'm not certain, but I think the Zips change kits every 2 years which would mean new kits this Season (Fall 2013).
  11. Ramos lists US U-20 players who are "ready for next level" ...Ramos exhibited a little gamesmanship of his own during Friday's media conference call, refusing to share details regarding tactics. But what he does know is that his familiarity with Klinsmann's camps has convinced him that we'll be seeing players from his Under-20 team -- "Different from players on the first team," Ramos pointed out -- shaping up to get a look on the senior side, specifically making mention of Benji Joya (Santos Laguna), Mario Rodriguez (Kaiserslautern), Daniel Cuevas (Santos Laguna), Trapp and Villarreal. ...
  12. Nice day in Arizona for David Meves. ...Goalkeeper David Meves, Portland’s first-round pick in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, played the full 90 minutes and made three saves, including a diving stop on a hard shot by FC Tucson’s Milos Dragic in the second half, as the Timbers recorded a second straight preseason shutout.... Edit: Michael Nanchoff had an assist in the preseason victory.
  13. Trapp heads to Mexico with US U20's.
  14. I'm with you. What a pleasure it will be driving to Columbus to support them.
  15. According to the Crew's website, today's match vs the Chicago Fire will be streamed. ...The Black & Gold took Tuesday afternoon off to prepare for Wednesday morning's match against Chicago. The Crew kicks off against the Fire at 11:00 a.m. ET at IMG Academy. You can stream all of the action right here on TheCrew.com. EDIT: Appears to have changed to 11:30 am ET.
  16. EDIT: For anyone who didn't see it live, the Timbers have a replay of today's match on the website: http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2013/0...-top-rapids-3-1 Yes, it is recent. Fox 8 in Cleveland featured that ice sculpture, Jared Embick, Bryan Gallego, and Reinaldo Brenes on their morning show last Thursday, I think. https://twitter.com/ZipsPaul/status/294076355140788225
  17. MLSsoccer.com to stream 26 preseason matches, starting with Desert Friendlies on Tuesday January 29th Portland Timbers vs. Colorado Rapids tomorrow (Jan 29th) at 1 pm Eastern 5 pm San Jose Earthquakes vs. Houston Dynamo Full schedule can be found by following the link. Lots of opportunities to see our Pro Zips.
  18. A mark against the Crew, in my opinion... http://www.thecrew.com/blog/post/2013/01/2...denton-day-four A NEW FACE IN CAMP To begin Sunday morning's training session in Bradenton, Fla., Robert Warzycha asked Justin Meram to introduce a new face in the preseason camp. "Guys, this is Konrad Warzycha. He's from Columbus and he went to Ohio State. He's here to train with us," the former Michigan Wolverine announced. ... "[Konrad] is another one of our players. I don't see any difference. I'm "Dad" at home and on the field, I am the coach," the Head Coach echoed. For those who may not remember, Konrad received a red card for kicking the ball into Darlington's face after D had been taken down and was lying on the ground in our match at tOSWho in 2010. It appears the younger Warzycha couldn't make it in KC. "[Konrad] is another one of our players"... If he were anyone else, would HC Warzycha have made such a show of introducing him? Interesting to see if he makes the roster. I wonder what Chad and Ben were thinking when Konrad was being introduced.
  19. Work Ahead for Seattle Rookie Good article; here's how it starts... INDIANAPOLIS — The rise of academies caused an unusual situation during last week’s Major League Soccer SuperDraft because not one player from the University of Akron was called to the podium. Akron was still well represented at the Indiana Convention Center. The former head coach Caleb Porter was on duty with the Portland Timbers, and the homegrown signings Scott Caldwell of the New England Revolution and DeAndre Yedlin of the Seattle Sounders were in attendance. ...
  20. I'm with you on the gold uniforms. I think the gray uniforms are sharp, too, but wish they were a subtle gold instead of gray.
  21. Yep. I know they do, which is why I said I guess I need to join in the social media. I don't necessarily care if they answer all of the tweets. I just want to ensure they know how much they're appreciated.
  22. Although I posted earlier that it looks like it worked for tomorrow night, I'll still be interested to see if there is any lasting effect. Also, what is the effect of the LeBron bobble heads vs the Zips' current winning streak? Whatever the case, I want our players to know that I show up to watch and support them, not because there's a chance that I can pick up a Lebron bobble head. I wish it was as easy to catch up with our basketball players after a game as it is our soccer players to thank them for their play. I guess I need to join the social media crowd so that I can tell them through twitter or something. I'd just prefer doing so in person and not just at the beginning or end of a season.
  23. Looks like the promotion worked for tomorrow night.
  24. My guess is that Bryan will play this summer for the Portland Timbers U23 team (PDL) like Aodhan and DeAndre played for the Sounders U23 team (PDL) last summer.
  25. You beat me to it, but here's another... http://seattletimes.com/html/soundersfcblo...nal_future.html I'm surprised Z.I.P. and fknbuflobo didn't remember this. (Ref: http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?s=...t&p=135206)
