  1. "good"...not a term I would apply to our Head Coach (or any of his assistants). Perhaps this book would help...
  2. I heard that last night, too. It was awesome. Zakuani had a great game...what moves to dribble around the goalkeeper and score that first goal. His name kept coming up, over and over. And, the crowd...the Sounders, by far, have the best fans in MLS. Sold out and most of them standing and chanting throughout the match. You could barely hear the referee's whistle at times. I would love to go to a Sounders game at Qwest Field! Seattle qualified for the MLS playoffs, by the way, and I think I heard they have the best record since July (?). That would be cool if they can keep that going in the playoffs and Zakuani and company win the MLS Cup.
  3. Although you can't spell DOUCHEBAG without OU, I don't look for the kitties to lose. Akron 10 OU 31 JZ's avatar is great.
  4. I lived out of state for 11 years from June 1987 - June 1998. With much of that time being before Al Gore invented the internet , I could not easily follow the Zips. I guess that was a good thing in 1994.
  5. You're right about Temple, but I couldn't remember if they were a "good" team at that time. They still didn't quite seem to be on par with a Tennessee or Nebraska, etc. Of course, Cowlumbus State believed it was beneath them at that time to play MAC opponents, especially those in Ohio, if I remember correctly.
  6. Looking at the 2007 Football Media Guide, the worst year in Division I-A was 1994 1994: 1-10 (defeated Ohio 24-10 in last game, & btw, no "bcs" opponents) 1960: 1-8 1951: 1-8 1942: 0-7-2 1931: 1-7 1925: 1-7 1915: 1-7-1 1903: 0-2 1896: 0-1 1894: 0-3 1891: 1-3 (no head coach, just a team captain...I wonder what the result would be in 2010? ) EDIT: 1994 schedule (sorry I brought it up) Date Results S3 Temple L 7-32 S10 Bowling Green* L 0-45 S17 at Can't* L 16-32 S24 at Western Michigan* L 6-19 O8 at Miami* L 14-50 O15 Central Michigan* L 0-47 O22 Toledo* L 25-48 O29 at Youngstown State L 7-41 N5 at Eastern Michigan* L 18-42 N12 at Ball State* L 28-38 N19 Ohio* W 24-10
  7. Just build a new stadium and you will be good.....It worked for us....... ...then go out and hire a bunch of coaches who couldn't win at Notre Dame, but will somehow win at Akron...
  8. UN-DER-STA-TED
  9. I'm concerned about Meves not being in goal, but I can tell you firsthand that you could not have stood in goal at NIU and come away with a win. Poni did a great job, making a number of saves.
  10. Having been there, it was a dirty game by a dirty team. The referee started out fine, then lost control by not making obvious calls starting about halfway through the first half. Meves was hurt by a cheap shot. Hopefully, he will be ready for the Penn State game. Poni was great. I hope the Rowdies are relentless if NIU comes to Lee Jackson Field for the MAC Tournament.
  11. Great to see Poni get in the game. Go Zips!
  12. Thanks all for the updates. I've been "watching" on the gametracker, too. Nice. Go Zips!
  13. Tickets for Soccer at CSU were $7 each.
  14. At the rate we are going, it could be ten years. I'm not over exaggerating either. I can't see myself actually giving a crap more than two more years at this rate. It's just terrible. I love UofA, but I just can't take watching/following this football team much more. I've been debating the past couple of years about what I should put my money towards at UofA. I don't see how my hard earned money given to the football program/athletic department is anything more than throwing good money down a hole. There are lots of causes at UofA I could give my money to. I'm going to have to start looking around. Have a nice evening. GP1, I agree with you concerning football. I had high hopes that a new, on-campus stadium would help U of A turn things around in football. But, for some reason, we have come full circle, bringing in coaches who have failed at Notre Dame, somehow thinking they will win at Akron . However, U of A has a good Mens Basketball team and a top notch Mens Soccer team, as well as success in other sports such as rifle and track & field. So, I wouldn't say giving your hard earned money to the athletics department is completely "throwing good money down a hole". I realize this may not mean much to you if you are totally dedicated to football, and I'm not interested in trying to convert anyone who dislikes soccer into being a soccer fan. But, at least consider that you have probably helped out (to some degree) a group of athletes who are proud to be Zips and who represent us well. So, I'll say thank you for that.
  15. Me and a couple other guys went to the Spring tournament in Pontiac, and it was in an indoor facility. Oakland was one of the teams in the tournament, but I don't know if that is their home facility. After just now checking their athletic website though, the game will be held at the same indoor facility. It's a pretty nice place with I think three soccer fields indoors. OK, good to hear. Guess it will be nice to be indoors, hope it doesn't cause problems for the Zips. Very nice place. I was also there in the Spring. It didn't seem to cause problems for our players then against Oakland or the Michigan Wolverines. Have a great time! Go Zips!
  16. Are you going with a group up to the game? I may be looking to put a few people together to make the trip. I hope a sizable group of Zips' fans make it to Pontiac. I can't make it this time due to work, and it's killing me. I've been fortunate to be at every game this year except the UNC game...because I was dumb enough to stay in Akron for the Syracuse football game (BAD choice). Go Zips!
  17. I just pre-ordered 2 tickets to the Mens Soccer game at CSU on Oct 30th. The lady with whom I spoke, Carrie, said they expected to sell out prior to gameday. She didn't know how far in advance...but, if you're considering going, you may want to call ahead. 216-687-5440
  18. Gametracker link under "Next Event, #1 Akron" on the right side of the schedule at Oakland Soccer Schedule
  19. Isn't that guy on the billboard our current Head Football Coach...how can we miss him when he's currently on our sideline?
  20. +1 I was happy to see Enrique. Dagilis, and others get into the game. I also assumed Brenes was redshirting, but glad to see him play and to talk with the guys in the autograph line after the game. I agree the time-only, at a minimum, for the west siders would be great. As far as more exciting opponents, the remaining home games - Buffalo, W. Michigan, Michigan and Creighton - should be fun games. A short trip to Cleveland State on Oct 30th should also be good.
  21. I agree Buckzip. I just liked that Poni commented on it in his blog. Same in the mid-80's, but I still didn't walk around wearing other schools' apparel.
  22. I could have put this in a number of threads (such as, Proud to be a Zip, UA Pride Night), but I thought it deserved its own. I don't know how many members of this board read "Inside the Box with Poni", but I, and I'm sure many others, especially appreciate this quote from his September 22nd installment: "Since this is my blog and gozips.com has given me free range to talk about almost anything that I want to, I would like to take a second here to address the student body here at The University of Akron. You all go to Akron, be proud of that. This is an amazing place to be right now. Knowing this, it makes me, and the rest of the team, absolutely sick to see the amount of other schools' paraphernalia that we see around campus. If you feel that you need to wear some other school's name on your chest while you are at The University of Akron, then maybe you aren't at the right school. We work hard every single day to give you guys something to be proud of and it kills us to see you support some other school." http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204975880 [if this was already posted elsewhere, I feel that it deserves to be posted again, as I just did.]
  23. Thanks for your insight Z.I.P. Not quite as easy to see all the action involved in Perry's score from beyond mid-pitch as it probably was on tv. Great article, too. GO ZIPS!
  24. Unless I missed it, I don't believe that Genovesi or Brenes have seen any regular season playing time (redshirts?).
