  1. Someone gave Bassett a second chance, just like someone gave KD a second chance. Perhaps it's time for KD to take some chances, too.
  2. Yes. I walked over to the soccer pitch for a "pick me up" after the basketball game and saw that the digging has begun.
  3. I hear that the Zips will be competing in the North Carolina Tournament, playing at UNC on September 3rd and at Wake Forest on September 5th.
  4. Even with my concerns over the Laugh-O-Meters ability to predict the game Saturday, it is still very accurate. Have not run the Level 4 diagnostic on it yet..... Could you try a positive approach for a month, perhaps a day...even a minute? I don't think any Zips fan thought that the MAC Championship game would be anything other than close. But, for you to say that you would predict the way that it worked out is a LAUGH. I'm sure you knew that the Zips would have to score a 3-pointer to send it to overtime and then would lose in overtime. And if you mean that you predicted a loss, than that is a huge laugh. Had the result gone the other way, I could just as easily say I predicted a win. I think you misunderstand the Laugh-O-Meter. At no point did the LOM register a laugh at the Zips on Saturday. It registered several at OU. The Zips should have won based upon the LOM results. If that isn't positive, I don't know what is. I apologize...I did misunderstand.

I agree it's bad and is closer to the low end than the top end. But, personally, I'm sick of the overstatement of the negative. I'll take the rose colored glasses of those who thought we could beat Indiana in football to those who claimed "no way" any day. In order to win, you have to believe that you can win.
  6. +1 Although I don't see them much more than when they're on the court, they are like my best friends. I've supported them all along and wish them well in all they do. I'll follow them through whatever post-season appearance they may get. I implore everyone to come out and support them if we get a home game no matter what tournament it is.
  7. Amen. People who think that all JUCO players are trouble are narrow minded fools.+1
  8. I agree with you about recruiting. KD really needs to rethink his position on JUCO transfers...they do not necessarily bring character issues.
  9. http://kingdom-hope.org/scholarships/The Cecile Zakuani Scholarship FundOne of the best periods in Steve Zakuani’s life was the two years he spent at the University of Akron on a soccer scholarship. Being from London, England, he had no idea what a soccer scholarship was and how it worked. However, after receiving one and taking full advantage of it, he wants to provide one teenager every year with the opportunity to experience what he did.
  10. ROFL I think you've actually convinced yourself Buffalo is outside of the USA... that would explain why we also chanted "Get an atlas" Sure our numbers were low, it was a Wed. night after all, I wasn't all that impressed by the HOME students. Your core is pretty loud but overall I thought it was a weak showing for senior night at home. We've sent 3 times that amount on a weeknight. But i understand you guys aren't quite as fanatic. And where was that trip to? Can't State? We had ~1000 students in attendance for your trip to Buffalo this year, I highly doubt you had 1000 there on wed. just sayingYeah, a lot of "basketball fans" that day were your football team and their fans who were there to support your new football coach. Did you also include the 3 refs in your 1000?...they seemed to be there with your students, too. BTW...just kidding. Your student support was impressive (edit: that is, at your place). I figured everyone showed up for that game just to get their free Roo shirts.
  11. Also planning to go with 1 other. Never been there b4. How's parking? I think the BUGS women play Can't at noon.
  12. Gee whiz, somehow I managed to COMPLETELY miss this thread! Thank you God!But, to gr8day2bazip: Thanks and let me give your post the biggest+++++++ availableWell said, and I'll add my +++++++ as well.Although the games are only exhibition, I'm looking forward to the game at Cleveland State on March 7th (which I hope to attend) and the rest of the Spring Schedule. It will be interesting to see how this team performs minus Teal, Blair, and Ben Z and before the latest recruits arrive.
  13. For me, it brought back a lot of great memories. You can choose to focus on the negative or you can choose the positive. I'll take the positive every time. Yeah, our Men's Soccer Zips fell short of their goal, but what an unprecendented season! True dat! We have it this year though. In the finals, my dad won 2 tickets for the finals out in Santa Barbara for this year, and I'm taking that as a good sign! GO ZIPS!Just wondering -- as I intend to purchase tix as soon as they go on sale -- does Dad have actual tickets, or a voucher? If tix, can you PM me the seat location? Not that I want to sit with you guys, but I wonder how seats are allocated. That's a good question Z.I.P. The majority of the tix in Cary were GA, but that wasn't apparent until we were there. I wonder if it will be the same in Santa Barbara.
  14. Saturday was my first Lady Zips game. The game was a lot of fun to watch, and the fans who were there were really into it. Coach Kest and her team are doing a great job.
  15. For me, it brought back a lot of great memories. You can choose to focus on the negative or you can choose the positive. I'll take the positive every time. Yeah, our Men's Soccer Zips fell short of their goal, but what an unprecendented season! Thanks for the great blog, CJ. I loved reading it all season. I hope someone will write one next season.
  16. I think we need to give credit to Ball St here as well. They've been playing very well lately and they were at home. Do we have LOTS of room for improvement? Absolutely. But I'm pretty HAPPY coming out of Muncie with a W.+1
  17. Not that I have a problem with cool halftime routines (the panda plate lady was awesome), but who comes to a game to see the halftime entertainment? Why pay for something if it's not going to get people in the seats?Have you ever been to a Cavs game? Even though they have the greatest player in the NBA, they also have non-stop entertainment action going on before, during and after the game. It really does add something to the overall experience. If the Zips are ever going to draw the casual fan, they need more than just basketball.I think the Cavs overdo it. I appreciate some "down time" to discuss the BASKETBALL GAME (the reason I'm there) with my friends without having to yell at them or having them yell at me to be heard.
  18. Soccer tends to announce later even though the dates are the same. I think Akron officially announced last year's class on February 9th, a week or so after football.
  19. I could be wrong, but I think LOI day for soccer, and many other sports is the same as Spring LOI day for basketball. Anyone know for sure? In any case, the list is available on the threads below.Soccer LOI day is tomorrow (2-3-2010), the same as football, but the period runs longer.NCAA Source
  20. I apologize if this was posted previously. It's almost a month old, but I hadn't seen it before.http://www.hartwick.edu/x29216.xmlMcIntyre Resigns as Head Men's Soccer Coach at Hartwick January 6, 2010ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick College Director of Athletics Debbie Warren announced Wednesday that head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre '96 has resigned. McIntyre, who has been the Hawks' leader since 2003, has accepted the head coaching position at Syracuse University.McIntyre steps down from his post at 'Wick after piloting the program for the past seven seasons. This past year, McIntyre guided Hartwick to a record of 10-4-4 and the program's first appearance in the Mid-American Conference Championship game."It is with mixed emotions we say farewell to Ian as our head men's soccer coach here at Hartwick," said Warren. "He is a wonderful coach, teacher, mentor, and friend who will be missed.""Our partnership with Syracuse in the Mayor's Cup and Ian's love for Hartwick as an alum will make it possible for him to stay in touch with the many friends of Hartwick soccer," added Warren. "This is a wonderful opportunity for him professionally and we wish him every success at Syracuse."McIntyre led the program to a record of 71-36-25 over his tenure and ranks second all-time in coaching victories at the College. He was named NSCAA New York State Region Coach of the Year in 2004 and Atlantic Soccer Conference Coach of the Year in 2005 after guiding the Hawks to the ASC title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Earlier this year, he broke the 100-win mark for his career after adding 36 wins as head coach at Oneonta State from 1999-2002.As a player, McIntyre led 'Wick to 52 victories and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament in his four seasons. He is one of only 26 All-Americans in program history and was inducted into the Hartwick Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001."After over 15 years as both a student-athlete and a coach here in Oneonta, Hartwick College holds a very special place in my heart," said McIntyre. "I have been blessed to meet many wonderful individuals, and I would especially like to thank our Director of Athletics, Debbie Warren, the entire Athletic Department, and the Oneonta community for ensuring that my time at Hartwick College has been so memorable."I have been honored to lead the men's soccer program during the past seven years and I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes both on and off the soccer field," added McIntyre. "I feel that I am leaving the program in very good hands and the leadership of the College will ensure future success. My wife and I have developed many great friendships that we will take with us to Syracuse University. We are excited to start a new chapter in our lives, and we look forward to embracing the challenges that lay ahead."
  21. TV Ratings are far from hypothetical, very well studied due to the all powerful advertising dollar. Look up what share a prime time network first round ncaa playoff game pulls, then look up the other two scenarios. You'll be surprised. I realize this isn't the intention of the original post, but for the sake of knowledge for those who aren't aware, it's a nice research project. But TV ratings have nothing to do with the "guaranteed .01% of Akron population caring about soccer, or the guarantee fan preferences. TV is a whole different ball game and part of the reason football is more popular than soccer in America is because TV and the media tells us it is. This thread is like asking if you'd want a Indians National Title vs. Cavaliers making (only) the first round of playoffs vs. the Browns beating the Steelers in regular season. A title, championship, being THE winner overall is the highest honor. Nothing else comes close.NO the comparison is asking whether you want the Indians making the playoffs as a wild card or seeing the Gladiators win the championship.Soccer is NOT on the same level of football or basketball....period.You're right...soccer is a world sport, American football is not, though the NFL gives out rings that say "World Champions" to the Superbowl Champions. What a joke!

  23. I went to all three. By far my favorite was the soccer weekend.I'm biased though.Like you, meatwad, I was fortunate enough to go to all 3. All were great in their own way, but soccer weekend was tops given that was for a national championship.
