  1. Looks like the winner of FAU-BGSU this week will the the 4th team in Akron. What if they tie?
  2. Thanks. I wondered if he was hurting, and not scheduled to play. But, why didn't Scott Caldwell play? Is he also injured, or was it thought that others would do better in that lineup without Kofi and Nanchoff?
  3. The biggest disappointment to me was that it didn't seem like any of the Zips took this game seriously, including Coach Porter. What was with that starting lineup not including Nanchoff and Caldwell? (Kofi is hurt; so, I understand his not playing.) When you're the #1 team in the country, you're everyone's "big" game; you can't afford to be complacent. I realize the Zips' "reserve" players should have been able to win this game, and it's great to give players a rest, but the feel I had was this caused the Zips to believe all they had to do was show up and they would win. I'm not down on my team; I just want to see them be successful and reach their goal of winning the national championship. I hope this game reminded them that they have to pay attention to each game as it comes and not take anything or anyone for granted.
  4. Speaking of MLS, see former Zips' striker Steve Zakuani and the Seattle Sounders face the LA Galaxy Sunday (10-31-2010) at 8 pm on ESPN2 in the first game of the Conference Semifinal of the MLS Cup. The game is at Qwest Field, where Sounders fans create the greatest atmosphere in the MLS. I believe the Sounders had the best 2nd half record in the MLS; so, although they lost 2 games to LA in the early season, this game could have a different outcome. As I understand it, the team that scores the most goals in a home & home 2-game set advances to the Conference Final. The Sounders made the playoffs for the 2nd time in their 2-year existence. Perhaps Akron will be mentioned during the game. Sounders Road-to-the-Playoffs
  5. One HUGE difference is that this guy is from OHIO, which to me, means that he would care about Akron and would have an understanding of football in Ohio. Akron's biggest mistake was hiring Tom Wistrcill. Hunter Yurachek should have moved up for continuity and his understanding of Akron.
  6. Instead of looking at it negatively, I hope Zeke is thinking "I'll go out and show these MAC media morons who is All-MAC!"
  7. I agree. It was great to see an opponent play like the Zips at our place. What a fun match to watch. I would love to see the Zips play them again in the near future; well worth a trip to Omaha.
  8. How did David look? He looked good...fast and good movement/ball control.
  9. David Murrow's season continues. Strongsville defeated Copley 4 - 1 tonight. Fun game (worth the short drive from Brunswick). Up next, undefeated Brecksville-Broadview Heights.
  10. That's GREAT.
  11. This is a MESS that I can't foresee a fix in the next few years. As much as I hate it, I think Rasor is correct that you can't fire i(diot)Coach and pay him $375,000/year for the next 4 years not to coach...can you believe $1.5 MILLION !!! What other job can you do so poorly and make $1.8+ MILLION? Someone is going to have to at least force i(mbecile)Coach to upgrade his staff to coaches who at least have a clue. However, I'm not sure how that can be done. How do you get people who know what they're doing to work for i(ncompetent)Coach?
  12. I wondered about those uniforms during the game. I didn't think they should be allowed to wear a light color like that. I would have thought they had to wear something darker like...
  13. +1 No one wants to win a National Championship more than the players. Most, if not all of them, play year round at UA and on developmental teams to be the best. Cut them a little slack when they have an off day but are still able to win. The coaches and team recognize their shortcomings.
  14. +1 No one should be allowed to block other fans' view or drip on other fans with an umbrella. Buy a poncho. They are not that expensive.
  15. I agree the Zips played "down" last night. The usual intensity didn't seem to be there, but I must admit that I felt uneasy prior to this game. I think it was because I didn't go to the football game, and I just felt uneasy about the 'failure' in the air. It's strange that I never felt that way last season when we had a football game and soccer game on the same day. Perhaps it's because football wasn't a complete failure last year and didn't seem to drag down the whole campus. At any rate, there were several times during the game that I heard Kofi yelling to his teammates to pick up their intensity. Good to hear the team captains taking charge on the field. It was also great to see Ben Speas score what became the winning goal. I've been wanting to see Ben get more playing time this season.
  16. Tom Brady went to the University of Meeeshigan. (That's a gratuitous Bob Ufer reference. If you don't know who Ufer was. look him up He was awesome.) Otherwise, I have the same thoughts when I keep hearing what a great recruiter RI was for ND. I think BZ was referring to the fact that Tom Brady was a 6th round pick and that Weiss taught him to be one of the best QB's ever while with the New England Patriots (not at Notre Dame),
  17. Approaching #1, in the Bottom 10 Bottom 10 Week 7 "Out in the Cold:" After losing 38-10 at Ohio last week, the Zips became the first FBS team to be eliminated from bowl consideration. On a fun note: Waiting list includes "Ohio State's special teams"
  18. Thanks Zach and MDZip...that's awesome.
  19. As I posted previously (vs CSU topic), call Carrie at CSU. Her direct line is 216-687-5440. Tickets are $7 each, but may (?) be less for students.
  20. I'm with you Trimmy. "Turd" is exactly the word association I make with Akron Football this season. As for Akronad, I was always taught that "hope is not a good strategy"...Akron Football is the tried and true proof of that. It seems that's all that the powers that be do with Akron Football is hope they can find a coach, and once they select someone, hope that he can coach. Beyond the thoughtless approach to selecting a head coach, they continue to do everything they can to drive the fans away. At 5:50 pm on Tuesday evening I walked over by the North End Zone Facility area and was looking into the stadium. Although I was on the sidewalk outside of the stadium, I was told this was a closed practice and I would have to move away and not look into the stadium. Nevermind that I was dressed in full Akron gear (for the soccer game vs Michigan)... I might give away some great secret as to what they were practicing. Also, nevermind that 2 minutes later I was on the club level for the season ticket holders gathering for the soccer game and was able to look down upon the practice from there. Perhaps I misinterpreted the direction to not look into the stadium...maybe they didn't want me to get sick ( ) watching that football practice and not be able to attend the soccer game. At any rate, this treatment sure improved my interest in coming to the remaining football games, NOT!
  21. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the game at Indiana.
  22. Actually, I considered this as well but thought statisically the best thing to do would be to vote for Ampai and no one else. But perhaps diluting the number of votes makes it harder for other to gain on him. Or perhaps it makes 0 difference either way. Math/stats majors? I vote only for Ampai as well...once at home and once at work. It seems to me to be best to only vote for Amapai so that I'm not helping others at all.
  23. I was also there. The 5-1 final score, in Ann Arbor, was awesome. I must admit that when the Zips defeated Michigan in the Spring at Ultimate Soccer Arenas, I remember at least 1 UM player shaking hands with 2 Rowdies on the sideline after the game and saying he would see them in Akron in the Fall. From what I could overhear, it sounded like a very classy acknowledgment of the AK-Rowdies involvement in the game vs little-to-none from his own fans (in his own state). I was one of the four ROWDIES that made the trip to Pontiac for that tournament. It ended up being a blast, especially because I won a raffle and received a Jabulani. I don't remeber a player talking to us, but there was a Michigan fan who if I recall, mentioned he played soccer with Perry at I forget what level. As the four of us walked down to our end that kid said "yeah Akron!" and high fived each of us. He came down later and asked when the rest of us ROWDIES we're going to be there haha. He was surprised to hear there were only four of us coming after all of the students that showed up last year. After chatting with us for a bit he said "well I'm gonna go back to my seat and watch you guys destroy us," then he took of the Michigan vest he had on. What a great sport. Hopefully we get a big turnout tomorrow night I could be wrong, but I swore there was a Michigan player, at the very end of the game, who walked around the right end of the field (as you faced the pitch from the seats) and stopped long enough to say he would see you in Akron in the Fall. I'm probably wrong. I did remember there were 4 of you, but I only remember 2 on the sideline when the Michigan player walked by.

From what I could overhear, it sounded like a very classy acknowledgment of the AK-Rowdies involvement in the game vs little-to-none from his own fans (in his own state). EDIT: Article from last year in the Michigan Daily: Zips tear Michigan men's soccer to shreds By Jake Feldman Daily Sports Writer On October 20th, 2009 The Michigan men's soccer team battled No. 1 Akron yesterday at the U-M Soccer Complex, but if you had sat in the stands with your eyes closed, you wouldn’t have known you were in Ann Arbor. A small pack of Akron enthusiasts overpowered the lethargic Michigan crowd, hooting and hollering every time the Wolverines slipped up or the Zips made a play. Unfortunately for Michigan, they had a lot to hoot and holler about. The Zips pummeled the Wolverines 5-1 in one of Michigan’s poorest performances of the season. Akron (14-0-0) pressured Wolverine defenders and forwards alike, forcing errant passes that often translated into Michigan turnovers. The Zips were equally as aggressive on the attacking half, moving the ball quickly and catching the Wolverines out of position. “We knew we were going to be up against a good team,” senior captain Julian Robles said. “I don’t know why, maybe we just gave them too much respect and didn’t play our game.” Akron’s stingy defense has surrendered just three goals on a mere 25 shots on goal this season. Nevertheless, Michigan (1-2 Big Ten, 9-4-1 overall) hung with the top-ranked Zips early on. In the 10th minute, freshman forward Hamoody Saad sent a perfect pass to junior forward Justin Meram who streaked into the opposing box. With a clear shot at the goal, Meram was blanked by the keeper. “He certainly could have put the score at 1-0 for us,” Michigan coach Steve Burns said. “You score early, and suddenly, the game takes on a whole different flavor.” But the Wolverines didn’t score first, and the only flavor Burns’s team would taste for the remainder of the contest would be sour. The Wolverines allowed three goals in a five-minute span and trailed 3-0 at halftime. Meram netted Michigan’s only goal in the 48th minute, but the Zips quickly quelled any hopes for a comeback by scoring on the ensuing possession. Sophomore forward Darlington Nagbe notched his first career hat trick in the Akron victory. While the Zips joined their rowdy fans at the edge of the field to celebrate their 14th consecutive victory, Michigan players circled their disgruntled coach. Frustrated, they shook their heads as they reflected on the woes of the game. The Wolverines had not been so handily outplayed since a humbling 5-0 loss to Notre Dame in the season opener back on Sept. 1. They responded to that defeat with seven straight wins. “Sometimes a thorough ass-kicking cleanses your soul,” Burns said. “And sometimes that’s what your team needs. I think we’ll be a team that responds to that because now you get to pay attention to some of the little details that slip away from you.”
