  1. I agree with you, AZipsCrazy. The Zips looked to me like they thought that all they had to do was show up and someone would give them the game. Not playing until the whistle blows is absolutely incredibly stupid.
  2. I've also heard a mixed bag.Someone complained to me about the "messed up" traffic pattern with Buchtel and Carroll closed and UA's expansion. What an idiot! It's so much nicer than when I attended and had no real campus. It also makes the city look much better.Others have told me that the changes have been great.I also had a Michigan Alum at work tell me how much she likes the Zips. I've been trying to get some of the Michigan alumni I know to go to the Zips vs Wolverines soccer game on October 18th. I know they're the opponent, but, it's good for attendance. (It's a convenient way for them to see one of their teams and UA gets a little extra revenue.)
  3. I have 3 tickets in Section 2. Could other Zips fans who have purchased tickets post the section you are in?
  4. Basketball history, too [i.e., sh*tting on Coach Huggins in the process]. Man, am I glad UA has recovered in both, although it took a lot of painful years!
  5. That comment was not meant to be directed towards you. It was directed to those who give the vibe that something very negative is going to happen that I've seen even after a convincing win yesterday. I love that fact that there are those who care enough to be upset. As I said in a previous post, when I attended to U in the 90's it was known as Apathy U. I never want to go back to those days. Perhaps many of us on this board fear we may go back to those days and that is understandable. Sort of like those that went through the Depression Era always having the fear that no matter how well off they are now, they may lose everything in a moments time. However, there is so much more to be positive about. Beat CAN'T and go ZIPS. I agree that there is so much more to be POSITIVE about. I think the Zips can handily beat Can't State. It's a rivalry game...those are when you play your best. GO ZIPS!
  6. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like "Prozac Nation". I, too, was disappointed in the attendance. I almost didn't make it myself because I was stuck in Denver Friday night due 1st to bad weather in Chicago and then our pilot being up too long that day. When they cancelled my flight, I was very lucky to get on the 10 am non-stop to Cleveland on Saturday and arrived at Hopkins a little after 3 pm. I was tempted to stay home, but did not. I arrived at the game just after the band took the field.
  7. That's great logic. If umbrellas are allowed and the stadium happened to be full (like we all want it to be), to where would I move?Personally, if I'm going to have my view blocked, I would prefer that it were blocked by the AK-Rowdies standing in front of me. I'd feel good about standing if it was because the Real Fans were standing and cheering in front of me...rather than weenies with huge umbrellas.
  8. I agree. The Browns would have no offense without Charlie. How sweet it would be if they had an O-line!Charlie's the man!
  9. Is it University of Akron policy to allow umbrellas during game action? Fortunately last night the rain stopped just as the game was getting started. However, I saw umbrellas still raised for the first few plays until the rain completely stopped. I go to football games to watch football, not the umbrella in front of me. If the fans want to stay dry, then they should bring ponchos or rain suits. The big D-1A schools do not allow umbrellas during play. Perhaps this is a sign that UA has no interest in being a big D-1A school? Or perhaps, there is a policy against umbrellas during play, but I didn't see any of the ushers enforce it.
  10. I absolutely agree and am planning to voice my opinion in a letter to Mack Rhoades. I am a 42-yr old alumnus who just bought season tickets this year, and I wish I was sitting with the students. I much preferred when the student section was near the team and next to the reserved section. In fact, I would prefer if the students had the seats in the lower sections behind the team between the 30 yard lines. I would love to sit right behind all of you and cheer with you.
  11. To me, it was disappointing to have the students sitting in the corner of the end zone on the "away" side of the field. I'm a 42 year old alumnus with a season ticket on the Zips side of the field, but I would much prefer to sit with the students, especially the AK Rowdies and the band. They make the game so much more fun. I liked it better when the students sat next to the reserved section. Those making the noise and getting into the game deserve better seats and to be closer to the team.As far as the game goes, the special teams set the Zips up with some pretty nice field position. I'm not sure the offensive stats were as good as the score. I could be wrong; I'll have to look them up.
  12. I hope the weather lets up enough for me to make it in to Cleveland tomorrow. I have tickets to the game, but got stuck in Denver tonight (Friday) due to the BAD weather in Chicago. I'm now on a non-stop tomorrow, but it doesn't arrive into Hopkins until 2:55 pm. I'm sure my checked bag won't make it, so that will be another slow down. I just hope to get to the game before kickoff now.Go Zips!
  13. Well said Yeah, that's really well said. I live in Ohio, but I love Michigan, and USC, and UCLA, and, and, and...That's going to make Akron better. That's sooooooo logical.
  14. Keep your "we"s to yourself. GO BUCKS! :cheers:Another national championship for the Great State of Ohio would be awesome! The Can't State thing does go a little overboard here at times. While I agree that , I only feel that way about them when they play the Zips.
  15. The loss to CMU was disappointing, but I don't think it's time to panic yet. I spoke with a University of Michigan alum (with whom I work) mid last week. He was at the UM vs CMU game at the Big House and told me that CMU looked really good, especially their defense. That's high praise given what UM did to Notre Dame in South Bend yesterday.Akron needs to figure out how to have a better first half and not dig such big holes. It's great to be a 2nd half team because that's when games are won. But, you've got to stay in it early and not shoot yourself in the foot. After 3 games on the road, I'm hopeful that the Zips will be sharp next Saturday at the Rubber Bowl.Go Zips!
  16. Boneyard BanterLook what I found on the ECU board...Subject: That was classic!... Posted by: Hurricane Pirate on Wed Sep 13 2006 10:32:27 AM Message: "Instead, you wandered so deep into the excuse bunker it will take an entire platoon of Army Rangers to dig you out." "I do know that your team was in front 17-14 with 57 seconds left, and your defense allowed UA to march 67 yards in those 57 seconds to score the winning touchdown. Whose fault was that? I do know that your team also was in front 10-7, and UA went 96 yards for a touchdown! Whose fault was that? I do know that you should keep this in mind: You were at home, playing in front of 56,103 fans with your own league officials and had two leads in the fourth quarter -- and blew them both on drives of 67 and 96 yards. And whose fault was that?" Fear the Roo Chuck, fear the Roo! In case the link above doesn't work:http://www.boneyardbanter.com/message_boar...er/13/84193.php
  17. The problem is that we hold on to our "loyalties" and overlook "reality" Why shouldn't I be loyal to a fellow Alum? Something wrong with that? He's young and on a team that has very little playing time together...2 star receivers with little NFL experience (and coming off injuries), an O-line that has had 9 centers so far this year, and Moron..I mean Maurice..Carthon running the offense.I agree totally that Carthon knows there are problems on the O-line. He should have plays in place to deal with it.
  18. I'm not sure about our immediate backups for next year, but I'm hopeful that Sean Hakes, a true freshman who won 2 Texas State Championships in their top division (albeit for private schools) and was born in Dublin, Ohio (on the doorstep of Ohio State), will step in and make Ohio State, Michigan, and others regret that they didn't recruit him.
  19. I agree skhorbotly. I even sent the ABJ a note on their ohio.com thanking them for today's good coverage and asking them to continue doing so.
  20. Charlie played well at times and not at others. Given the non-existent o line and the mostly poor play calling, he did well. If this keeps up, though, I'm afraid he's going to get hurt.
  21. Just ran for a TD...Announcer..."Charlie Frye, the Akron Zip, zipping it along."
  22. Unfortunately, I think that refers to Comcast in Michigan, but I'm not 100% certain.
  23. Today is a good day. Zips on the ABJ front page. Zips with more space than #1 OSU on the ABJ sports front page. And, Charlie Frye's picture covers much of the sports front page in the PD. Charlie leading the Browns to victory today would make this weekend complete!GO ZIPS!
  24. I'm proud not to have Buckeye envy and am comfortable with who I am.1. Akron Alum2. Zips fan3. Buckeye fanI love Ohio! on TexasGO BUCKS!
  25. I love the Buckeyes. I hate Northeast Ohio media for not giving Akron and the rest of the MAC the coverage we deserve.Go BUCKS! Send Bevis, I mean Beavo, back to the barn!
