  1. No one likes that many trailing periods. Finish your thoughts. My inner Grammer Nazi is bigger than yours.
  2. hahaha Hopefully, first bone of many... The Akron Zips will receive the ball in at least one half of every ball game under iCoach from this point on.
  3. iCoach is plan B Plan A included an up-and-coming coach, new stadium on campus, etc... That experiment is over. Plan B needs time. Sorry, but that is the lipstick on the pig.
  4. What I saw. 1) Bad Zips defense 2) Pretty good zips offense, putting our team in a position to win. 3) New coaches making mistakes 4) A pretty awesome Gardner-Webb offense. What I am advocating 1) More intelligent approach to iCoach and his tenure. He is going o be here for awhile. 2) Coaches need time to gel too. Trial by fire these first 4 games. 3) ROI Most of us have been around football for awhile and can recognize the "any given sunday," factor when two teams meet. But for some it may seem like things aligned for this 0 - 2, soon to be 0 - 4 start. Maybe you feel strongly that your previously held convictions are being vindicated about iCoach, this team, and administration. I don't have a lot to say that hasn't been said elsewhere. I wanted to touch on playcalling and experience. iCoach and his coaches have meetings inside of meetings about their gameplan and what they want to do in a game. Just like a team, this kind of thing needs practice. They outline situations, like 3rd and short on this section of the field in these situations etc. Then put all their notes together and then call the game as they see it using those as a reference. Playcalling is not this instinctual THING that some men are born with, or acquire over time. It is a lot of work throughout the offseason getting to know your team, hours of film getting to know their team, and being able to put in all together on gameday. These are all younger coaches in new jobs and I imagine they feel the same way I do after I take on a home improvement project and realize exactly what I got myself into. These guys are standing in a flooded basement, with ruined drywall and a soggy carpet, pulling their hair out. Glaring problem areas that a more seasoned contracter would have spotted mile away. It is all about trying to do the most with your money. ROI. Our AD hired a guy with NO head coaching experience and a GREAT pedigree for success because he wanted the most bang for his buck. There are many tracks to being a successful head coach. Some prove it at the lower levels and work themselves up, while others show great aptitude in VERY important areas like recruiting. And iCoach can recruit. It will take AT LEAST 3 seasons to see his guys on the field at the important positions. So cut him some slack while he learns about the rest of the job. We all want to win ASAP. Well so does iCoach. He is still upbeat and positive, the things Rasor was talking about. Plus he is recruiting where we see problem areas, and doing it better than the rest of the MAC. AND... i am glad our obviously bad defensive gameplan against spread offenses got exposed against Gardner-Webb and not in our MAC schedule. Nothing like a learning opportunity that dones't count against your conference record. tl&dr iCoach is in over his head... but who doesn't do that? That's how you learn. So stop being assholes.
  5. Please follow this link and click on the button for my reply.
  6. I was. I like the offense and there are plenty who do. Plus... what other type of offense should we run? Since our line is not playing well, and we already miss the spread... lets go for the A-11 offense? We could have up to 10 recievers on the field at once! The most spread available for your $20 a game.
  7. Dealing with your problems with the help of alcohol is ALWAYS a win-win situation. I have 2 beautiful children btw.
  8. Honestly... it could be worse. At least we went into overtime and gave our kicker 2 chances. This man is probably more sad.
  9. I know some people noticed that we kicked off both halves. You know happened? The coaches told our captains to "kick" instead of "deferring" the decision to the second half. Some background. I assume this is a mistake a head coach makes once... never to make again.... EVER I hope iCoach handles these two losses like Apple handles the first gen of one of their new products Find all the bugs Release fixes Profit
  10. Exactly Why were we in a 2 deep in our red zone?
  11. Well, at least next week should be fun. I would like to officially retract my above statement. You could always doubledown for next week or subsequent weeks.
  12. twitter hashtag #ZipsNeedAKicker
  13. not to pile on gozips.com .... but where are the highlights from last week? I know we lost but we put some hits on their QB. I emailed them on Tuesday and no one has gotten back to me.
  14. I can't wait to see what Spin spits out here.
  15. Well it was close.... Zipsnation.org poster SPIN WINS THE INTERNET FOR LABOR DAY 2010!!!!1!11! (Only he/she is allowed to click here so dont try it!) Your steadfast raging on zipsnation.org all day long on Labor Day 2010 has finally been rewarded. Your loosely organized insights, post hoc arguments, and general anger towards the zips football program put you in a category of your own. Good Show and congratulations on your win.
  16. There is a lot of talk about the soccer program on here. When it comes to having an awesome soccer program, I am happy for UofA, but isn't it stupid to draw comparisons? 2 different sports, etc? And speaking in terms of the football board, would anyone skip watching a football game to watch a soccer game? I don't think I would.
  17. As someone who has been accused of focusing too much on statistics, I believe I am eminently qualified to address the issue of Nicely's 12 of 35 (34%) pass completion percentage. Unless you actually witnessed the game, you wouldn't know that Nicely put more than 50% of the passes that he threw to his receivers into or near their hands, i.e. catchable. About a third of his statistical pass attempts were not actual pass attempts. They were passes deliberately thrown out of bounds to avoid a sack because all of the receivers were well covered and the Syracuse defensive line was pouring through the Zips offensive line. Since intended incompletions (deliberately throwing the ball away) do not have their own statistical category, they get lumped in with unintended incompletions under pass completion percentage. Without knowing that a large percentage of the incompletions were deliberate, one cannot fairly and accurately judge the QB's actual pass accuracy performance. The fact that Nicely threw no interceptions indicates that he was smart enough not to try to force the ball into a tight Syracuse secondary when his receivers were smothered, which was most of the time. Nicely's performance was obviously not that good, but it was far from the Zips biggest problem last night. The QB did not have a lot of support, and he's not good enough to win games by himself. That's all well and good. However, great QBs thread the needle with or without support. If you can thread the needle, the rush backs off. 40% completion, maybe I back off. 33%, no way. It's terrible regardless of how you look at it. Your last statement may be the most profound of all. If he isn't enough to win games in the MAC, we have a problem. The MAC is a QB driven league and there are times he will have to be enough to win. Nicely threw away 4 balls at least instead of throwing a pick or getting sacked. Taken for granted that throw-aways are always a part of a QBs completion ration, 12/31 is 39% (Nicely was 12/35 passing).
  18. iCoach knows his football. Give him a chance. Negatives: I think you guys have covered them. Positives: Defense had a lot of take-aways and put pressure on the QB. Hopefully it will be a trend which will help our DBs out tremendously. Their offense line is very good and our defense stuck with them. They gave up alot of yards but i think they were on the field a lot more than they should have been. When it counted and it was close in the 3rd quarter, our defense held 'Cuse on 3rd down, making them go 0 for 3. That is awesome sauce. Love the new blitzing mentality. Seems like we were sending 6 when 'Cuse called a pass play. Defensive coordinator did a good job knowing their tendencies. We didn't win, but we had our chances. iCoach has some smart people working for him. I can't wait to see what they do.
  19. relax people Games are won and lost in the trenches, right? We lost this game over the right side of the offensive line. They were consistently beat. Hampered our ability to run the ball in the beginning. And ruined our chances to get back in the game in the 2nd half when Nicely came out throwing. Defense looked better. A team with plenty of talent on the oline and @ rb had a tough time moving the football against us. That counts for something.
  20. Anyone want a friendly tailgating nomad to bring them beer? Thinking microbrews or Left Hand Brewery? Nomad Plan
  21. Coming Soon!
  22. A certain LB is about 10-15 pounds heavier than listed.... this year is going to be fun!
  23. Planning to be a tailgating nomad... What kind of beer should I bring to your tailgate and can I hide the cooler someplace during the game?
  24. Did you factor in GA? UofA has always done pretty well with walk up sales as well. Another factor playing into good ticket sales is tOSU played last night. Like it or not, it does impact attendance. I went to a football game myself (USC vs S. Miss) and it really got me in the mood to go to another game. I'm already looking forward to going to the Duke vs. Wake game next Satruday just to watch another game. Watching football makes a fan want to go to a game or go to another game. Without a tOSU game Saturday, I believe there will be a lot of people who reengergized their football spirit last night and will be looking to go to a game. It's Lab Day weekend. No NFL. No tOSU. School has statred so there are no trips to the beach. It's Saturday night and HS games are over including JV games. There are no interesting college games on TV Saturday (evidence....Arizona vs. Toledo is the ESPN prime time game). There is really nothing of note going on in NE Ohio. 20,000 minimum should be expected. I don't expect the Zips to win, but if they did in front of a big crowd over a Big East team, it would do wonders. Heck, just play well and be entertaining and a loss wouldn't kill the interest in the season. Don't suck!!! "DONT SUCK" needs to be our Rallying Cry
