  1. BG beats OU 67-57.
  2. I don't think Harney has the conditioning to play much more than he does. Remember he sat out a year without even being allowed to practice. It's hard to get in the shape of an upper-tier mid-major player while only playing ball at the rec center.
  3. LB Ifeadi Odenigbo commits to Northwestern
  4. Ball State beats WMU at home. EMU beat NIU, leaving NIU winless against D-I competition. OU is struggling against BG. I'm not surprised. OU just isn't as good as they have deluded themselves to believe.
  5. I just remembered how boring Miami games are to watch.
  6. Ah. You're right. My mistake. I saw him listed on some draft sites as a potential pro and wasn't thinking. So we have a guy with possible pro potential returning on the D Line next season.
  7. It's on the MAC website.
  8. Well, the Chipotle thing looks like it fell through. However, I've heard some great news for people looking to get a bite to eat on campus. There is a possibility that UA will be getting a Panera Bread and/or a Qdoba in the near future. Either one would really expand the options of students and visitors. Getting both would completely transform the prospect of getting food before or after athletic events. UA might do well to put them in Quaker Square, where they certainly have the space and they would get a lot of additional business from downtown and the out-of-town people visiting the convention center across the street would be drawn on to campus get a bite to eat.
  9. Andre Jones signed with the AFL's San Jose SabreCats. We also have five players who declared for the draft. I have to doubt whether any of them will make it, but OT Jake Anderson, OG Zac Kasparek, DE Hasan Hazime, DT Dan Marcoux, and DT Oren Wilson all declared.
  10. I'm watching the Ball State - WMU game. BSU likes to score in transition, and WMU is letting them do just that by chucking up a lot of missed threes for BSU to rebound. WMU is not a good team, despite their high RPI which was affected by playing the 12th hardest OOC schedule in the country. It will sink like a rock once they play more MAC West teams. WMU just isn't very good and they apparently have Mrs Doubtfire playing center for them. If you're feeling masochistic, EMU plays NIU at 4:00. The good games start at 6:00 with OU at BG. Akron-Miami, Can't-Buffalo, and Toledo-CMU are at 7:00.
  11. Good stuff. Rivals profile: LB Darryl Waters He's the third player from Hargrave to commit to the Zips in this recruiting class.
  12. Not sure I'd classify him as smart, exactly, but he's certainly not nearly as stupid as the other guy.
  13. SS James Turner is taking an official visit to Akron.
  14. What happens is when you do it on Twitter, it sends a mention to the @akronzipsmbb official account. So they hear about it every time. They probably noticed a bunch of mentions yesterday and wondered what it was, and then decided to help promote it. It's crowdsourced (a.k.a. word-of-mouth) advertising. Can't beat that.
  15. People outside of Akron haven't been paying much attention to this, but Akron has only played three games with their full roster. Mississippi State, VCU, and Marshall. The results of those games should speak for themselves. Those are the games that should be looked at as an indicator of where the Zips are, not the games where we were shorthanded and having chemistry troubles, all of which has been solved.
  16. Ranked 60th overall, up from 61 yesterday. I've noticed that a lot of the people supporting this believe that the daily ranking is the overall rank.
  17. The whole downtown/on-campus debate is becoming moot. The southern half of Downtown Akron as it exists now is almost an extension of campus. The Polsky Building, the 22 Exchange apartments, the new student apartments being built between Cedar and Selle, and all the college bars along Main Street have transformed that area. An arena would complete the transformation of that area into something of a "west campus" and possibly serve to encourage further development towards that goal. The area surrounding Exchange and Main would no longer be a part of "downtown", but a transition zone between the university and the city. Downtown would shift to the north, in the mind of the average Akronite, to be centered around the area of the main library, the convention center, and the art museum, which would affect the overall perception of what downtown Akron is to the people of the city by giving it a more positive connotation as a place of culture.
  18. He should be on campus for the spring semester beginning next week. I guess he had trouble with the NCAA clearinghouse that prevented him from enrolling and joining the team in the fall, but he got it sorted out. So we should get a look at him at spring practices.
  19. We've got some talent coming in at the QB position, and some talented QBs that are already on the roster. With the change to Bowden's new offense, who knows which QB will be the best fit? Nicely and Moore were playing in the wrong scheme the past two years. Zach D'Orazio and Kyle Pohl both redshirted but have a lot of potential. Tyrell Goodman is still coming in after spending a year at a prep school. And then there's recruit Steve Franco coming in from PA who might be the best of them all. Coach Bowden has some really good players to pick from.
  20. Done.
  21. While Barry Sanders might be out of our league, Deion Sanders is just the caliber of player that the coaches should be looking at recruiting in their first year.
  22. JUCO DE Albert Presley announced on his Facebook page that he will play for the Zips. Welcome aboard!
  23. WR Gehrig Dieter commits to SMU.
  24. Terrell Buckley's Twitter account seems to make it official. Didn't really register with me that he used to play for the Dolphins with Jason Taylor.
  25. This is all according to the rumor websites and will continue to be just a rumor until the university puts out a press release later this week. There are still some spots that haven't been mentioned, like the TE/FB coach or special teams coach. Head Coach - Terry Bowden (North Alabama Head Coach) Director of Football Operations - Ben Murphy (North Alabama Director of Football Operations) Offense: Offensive Coordinator / OL Coach - Alan Arrington (North Alabama Offensive Coordinator / OL Coach) QB Coach - A.J. Milwee (East Mississippi CC QB Coach) WR Coach - Jeff Bowden (North Alabama WR Coach) Defense: Defensive Coordinator / Associate Head Coach - Chuck Amato (Unemployed while recovering from cancer) DL Coach - Todd Stroud (Colorado State DL coach) LB Coach - John Pont (Miami Ohio Grad Assistant) Safeties Coach - Mike Woodford (New Mexico DB Coach) CB Coach - Terrell Buckley (Florida State Assistant S&C Coach)
