He wouldn't have had that problem at Akron. Last season when Fickell should have came in, Nicely was the returning QB. It's not like at OSU where you lost a three-year starter with no clear #2 to take over.
-
Why Michigan? That's who OSU fans hate, not Zips fans. Akron has no beef with them.

I'll just pass these lyrics along to the Rowdies. I mean, how hard could it be to get 500 drunk college kids to sing this in unison?

Are we adding depth, or simply replacing the players that were previously removed from the team? Not having depth was a manufactured excuse.

This year's Oregon uniforms can only be described as badass. Click for awesome.

I'm assuming that it's modeled after the Horizon League Network. If I recall, there was no login required to watch that. Requiring a login hurts viewership and therefor possible ad revenue, so I hope that they won't have a mandatory one (having an optional one where it saves your settings so you don't have to adjust every time is fine).

2012 WG commit Reggie McAdams
ZachTheZip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
McAdams on ESPN Recruiting Rated as an 89 44th best SF in the class of 2012, 5th best prospect in the state of Ohio. -
I much preferred listening to him compared to the ESPNRadio shows. At least his show wasn't an OSU/Pro-sports wank-fest.

New offer: RB David Jones

The schedule will be released "very soon". The season opener is at Mississippi State.

LeBron's been on campus all week playing pick-up games with the MBB team, working out in the Zips weightrooms, and generally causing a buzz.

http://blogs.clarionledger.com/rwalker/201...ore-louisville/ Interview with Moore.
-
How do you know conclusively that the talent level is improving? Maybe it's staying the same as it was, but all you're doing is replacing spread-style players with pro-style players?
-
ABJ Article. He said he had trouble adjusting to the Zips’ pro-style offense, in which the quarterback is usually under center, after playing the spread in high school and junior college, in which the quarterback usually is in the shotgun. “It was rough here at first. In the spring, there were times, literally, after practice that I said I didn’t think I could run this offense because it is so different,” Moore said. “It has taken a lot of work to learn it.” I think I'm having Déjà vu. There's also plenty of other good info in the article.

I preferred the old fries. LOVE the burgers and grilled cheeses, though.

My first time to post on the board as a ZIP alum. I have been reading and see how everyone was so quick to bash NICELY. I feel for the kid. Cant imagine HOW you can play for a bumbling idiot like IANELLO. I hated those youtube camp practice interviews. Looks Like Coach I is trying to make PN his skapegoat. I was at several of the games last season. PN got so abused. NO protection,,he took some huge hits and always got up. Hes an athlete , and showed his leadership skills by his never giving up and always fighting. I NEVER saw him throw a helmet down or cuss on the sidelines like MANY college and pro qbs do when things go bad. Always kept his composure. Thank you PN7. Your a class act and great role model for my kids. I was at the Spring Game. CM didnt impress me much. AT 6'1 I think The Lone Ranger is going to need his HORSE to be able to see over that OSU Defense. Its not Mississippi Juco Football. I hope the best for my ZIPS this season but the QB was NOT the problem last season,,however its an easy person to blame. It starts at the TOP..and thats COACH I. Now we're talking. Preach it.

Fifth Day of Preseaon Men's Basketball Practice
ZachTheZip replied to GoZips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I watched several episodes of cable TV about Montrose Christian. This is the HS that Carmelo attended his senior year. He was their starting point guard. He definitely can play. Word I have is that he is friends with Alex Abreu. The probability of Carmelo keeping his commitment to Akron is high. From what I heard, over 90%. Akron is poised to literally become a major-major in a mid-major conference. Thus, players want to come here. (boy, will I get flack from the drones for this statement) Given the other schools he was considering before choosing the Zips, I have to think it would take one heck of a scholarship offer to pull Melo away. It's so refreshing when kids weigh all their options and go to the place that makes them happiest instead of continually chasing the biggest offer and collecting offers like trading cards. As for McAdams, I think a lot of schools backed away from the basketball side because they assumed he wanted to continue to be a QB. They think that if you get an offer from a good BCS school asking for you to become their QB, you couldn't possibly walk away from that. -
Um... Didn't you also call for it? No. I called for a QB to be named sooner rather than later, and for that I'm happy. But I wasn't pulling for one over the other. Nicely will see playing time this year and next, of that I have no doubt.

You all got your wish. We'll find out if it's the right choice...

Most of the Blue Ribbon preview, as posted on the MAC website.

That isn't fair. He was a first season starter in a new system on a terrible team. Only a true experienced star would have real success in that system. If you took a MAC caliber QB and let him play a little as a true freshman and then have him start as a sophomore under a new coaching staff and a new system on a terrible team with little talent, it wouldn't make that much of a difference from where PN7 was at the end of the last season. Anyone young QB would struggle in that scenario. Now, I'm not saying saying he will be a good player. I am pretty much saying we don't have enough evaluation time to decide that yet. If the guy starts out the first 3 games and looks the same as last year I will agree 100% with you. I say the first 3 because I don't think any QB in Zips history will look good in game one with this OL going against that OL. Frey, Weems, or Clayton Moore may have a little success because they can move. However no statue will be able to be successful when they are under constant pressure. With all that being said, if all else is equal, please play Moore. But we weren't a terrible team with little talent. We were an ok team with ok talent, but we had a terrible coach with terrible gameday coaching skills. I believe that Brookhart would have gotten us at least five wins with that roster. I also believe that Ianello, if he allowed for at least a little bit of a transition with mixed formations instead of diving headfirst into his new schemes along with not redshirting numerous talented players at thin positions, could have won at least three games. Nicely isn't as bad as people are making him out to be. But he's not as great as we thought he could be at the beginning of last year. If they're dead even, you play the QB with the higher ceiling, even if he's not there yet. I honestly don't care who Ianello picks, so long as he picks one by saturday. Nicely and Moore's skillsets differ significantly and the players and coaches need to know which one to revolve their play around. The O-line has a very different role for a mobile QB compared to a statue with an arm.

Where is Manny's? On the Zip Strip? There hasn't been a Zip Strip for years now. Manny's is on Brown Street.
