  1. I guess the future is now.
  2. This just in: IT'S A SELLOUT!!!!! First in 56 years (?) of Zips Futbol. Can anyone guess the attendance figure? 3000...4000...5000...More?They are expecting 2,400 fans to be in attendance. If the students show up like I think they will, I hope they can cram in another 600 to shoot for 3,000.
  3. Elton breaks down the money made from the first home gameIn total, he says UA made $287,500 not including season tickets or luxury box revenues. When you factor those in, the total comes out to be $562,500 (previous number + ([season tickets + luxury seats] / 6) as found here, adjusted for most current known numbersMuch more than we paid Morgan State to come here, I would guess. Also, we're paying Indiana $150,000 to play here so we'll come out ahead for both non-conference home games (we don't pay for conference home games).
  4. Maybe you could to a video game music show for one half time show. They seemed to be a hit a few years ago at some different schools. If you put it up on youtube it's practically guaranteed to get you lots of publicity, if done well. One song that I always thought would translate pretty well to a marching band sound would be Achilles Last Stand by Led Zeppelin, but it's probably too long to be played in full. But check out some of those video game shows put on by other college marching bands on Youtube and see what kind of a reaction they got.
  5. I hate to break up the group hug, but isn't the spread 1.67 points using his current rankings?Sagarin Rankings 09162009UA's ranking = 65.60IU's Ranking = 66.93Home Field = 3.0065.60 + 3.00 - 66.93 = 1.67I know.....I need to get a life and soon.Your link title is a bit misleading. The ratings are as of 9/13/2009 not 9/16/2009. Also I did not round the 2.91 home field advantage to 3.0 as suggested by Jeff. It actually is not critical either way as the Zips will be winning by 14 points. You caught me in the old "post date the link" trick. Kudos. And you correctly pointed out a more precise value for home field advantage. I am now better informed. Thanks! You are welcome. Now if I can just convince Jeff to stop truncating his rankings and home field advantage to two digits to the right of the decimal point we can really start to get some accurate spreads. If you read his introduction on his ranking page, you'll notice that he says that the ratings used to determine the point spread and pick winners is the PREDICTOR rating, which is one of the two ratings used to come up with his main rating. The other one is the BCS rating which doesn't account for margin of victory.Using his PREDICTOR rating, you get the following:UA's ranking: 68.15IU's ranking: 63.43HOME FIELD: 2.91(68.15 + 2.91) - 63.43 = 7.63This means that Akron should win by at least a TD.
  6. I have. Not much has been said, yet.
  7. Terrible news. Get well, Gary.
  8. To me, college marching bands are supposed to have huge drumlines that play long cadences that get the crowd fired up. Drums carry omnidirectionaly better than horns or woodwinds, which only really sound good when they're pointed at you.And the songs shouldn't be something that you want to clap along to. They should be ones that make you want to get up and move, something with a rhythm.Look at this. 10 minutes straight of drums, not a single brass or woodwind but it feels like a "college football marching band". It has energy, even though the band isn't marching around like a bunch of rejects from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
  9. I do have to wonder, though, how they never knew that he was only born with only one kidney. You would think that somebody would have noticed that he was missing a vital organ at some point.
  10. http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/59274237.htmlDoug Martin on the NCAA: "If this kid doesn't get a sixth year, everybody in Can't should storm the NCAA, and we should burn the place down.''Great way to get them on your side when you're petitioning them for a favor, Doug. :lol:He also guarantees that his team will be in a bowl game this year because he doesn't care about losing both the starting QB and RB.
  11. Can we start off the season with an easy home game win?
  12. I hate to see kids go down with injuries, even at Can't. A kidney laceration is a rough way to end your season.Too bad. Now the only thing that can make the wagon wheel game interesting will be the off-the-field antics of the Rowdies.
  13. They took that idea from Akron when we did it a few years ago.
  14. If I am understanding you correctly... are they handing out physical tickets for students so they can get in later in the day after the rally? If so, that makes MUCH more sense since it'll allow students to go to the rally and still get into the game.I hope all 1,000 go to the Rowdies. I want to drown out the HS game that will be at the Info at the same time. I want to be heard on STO above their crowd!
  15. About the punting...We all saw Stec booting monster 60+ yard punts during warmups, right? He looked like a top NFL punter out there. Then the game starts and he kicks a 27-yard shank. This tells me that there is one of three things going on: 1) the punt protection is lacking and he's getting hurried, 2) he has some kind of mental shutdown when the pressure is on, or 3) he's being told to do it that way by the coaches. I hope it's not #3.
  16. The team shop WAS open. Well, at least the one under the east stands was, anyway. They had a line all game long.
  17. Just got my football wristband. They are a much higher quality than the last ones were. The soccer policy is bad news. Gates open at 4:00 for a 7:30 game and only the first 1,000 get in? The Rowdies will be at a rally in the field house at 5:30. I hope they all get in to the game. There should be hell to pay if they get turned away because a bunch of more "casual fan" type students showed up before them and took their spot behind the goal.
  18. Playing Rodgers now is smart. It's a way to avoid the disaster that was the 2007 season because now we'll have a QB with significant game experience. We can work out the rookie mistakes without them costing the game.
  19. Thanks for the pics. I hope all the people who were on the new campus for the first time appreciated those views as well.
  20. Let's not get into this again.
  21. Oh the things that would be said to the goalie if he were standing near the Rowdies when that happened...
  22. It lacks the magic of tradition and history. Most stadiums have stories attached to them, great plays and legends from all the games played there. This is something that will grow over time. I also think that the fans are a part of that, and yesterday the fans weren't sure of themselves, they were kind of getting used to the feeling.I believe that when the dorms get built that will obscure the view of Exchange there will be a better feel. Right now it's too open.
  23. Thanks MSU! I'm glad that some of your fans got to experience the day with us, and that two of our former players came back as well.Us students gave your team some crap when they were walking to and from the locker room, but I can guarantee that that's the easiest we will be on any opposing team this year. Some of your players seemed to enjoy the trash talking, too.
  24. Really amazing. Usually when they run stories like this, they will only mention Minnesota's stadium (see ESPN)I'm still waiting for any mention at all from Graham Watson about this. it's her freaking job to cover non-BCS teams but she hasn't even mentioned Akron in passing for at least a month, even as she wrote an article about universities making huge facilities upgrades, instead opting to talk about some sun belt team's new scoreboard.
  25. One of the things that stood out to me was something that nobody noticed, and that's a good thing. I don't think there were any parking problems. Most people only notice something if it inconveniences them, and today parking wasn't really an issue as far as I could tell. Same goes for the stadium. The Rubber Bowl stood out because there were so many things wrong with it. A good stadium should be invisible. Nothing obstructing your view, no long lines for restrooms or concessions preventing you from seeing part of the game, no splinters in your ass from rotting benches, no having to march up dangerous concrete stairs to get to your seat or anything else no matter where your seat is, no airplanes buzzing the press tower, etc. Infocision Stadium was invisible as far as watching a football game goes, and that's a good thing.
