  1. Now that I've looked, I see why he might have transfered. Akron went out and brought in some top CBs this year by the names of Bill Alexander, Emmanual Lartey, and Diamond Weaver. They're all 3-star CBs.
  2. I'll be there, if I can manage to get out of work early.
  3. Hi there!Individual tickets haven't even gone on sale yet, but there should be plenty if you get them early. This game will more then likely be a sellout, so don't wait. For lodging, there are plenty of hotels in the general area, but only two that are located downtowm: the university-run Quaker Square, and a Raddison Inn. If you can get into Quaker Square, it's one of the coolest hotels around, with round hotel rooms created from old grain silos from the original Quaker Oats factory. The stadium is not even two minutes from downtown, and there are highways all over the place if you're staying a bit further out.As far as tailgating, stop back a few days before the game, once we figure out what's up. Hopefully we'll learn a lot from the game the week before, but I expect that there will be some kinks to work out still, so any feedback after the game would be great. It's all experimental, since the stadium is over 5 miles from the old one and we're going to have to re-learn all the details.
  4. http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/r...ses/?id=3876953Bush finally got the start and put on a show, earning a shutout against the USL-1 defending champs. I know that not many pro soccer teams like to play rookies no matter how good they are, but the Stars have nothing to lose and Evan has just proven himself capable against top competition.
  5. Only 10 days until you can see a Zips team take to the field in an intercollegiate athletic competition and the fall sports season officialy begins. The Women's Soccer team will be playing on August 12th at Lee Jackson Field against Oakland at 3:00PM. Can't wait.
  6. That's too bad. I wish him the best of luck at his new school. I know he was injured last year, but is our secondary suddenly so deep that he feels like he wouldn't see the field?
  7. Great article! The stadium being on campus will be a huge help in getting students to games, but I don't think it will immediately impact the number of the crazy front-line AK-Rowdies that you think of when you think of a college student section. That will come slowly as a few of the casual student-fans get converted year-by-year in a slow-starting snowball effect.
  8. Should have just made it turf.
  9. poll resultsThe poll results for every other team have reasonable outcomes. No reason to think any differently about this one.
  10. http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...p;ATCLID=323403Methinks it's time for an update to our "athletics history" page. And probably a whole bunch of other pages on the website that are stuck in the year 2004.
  11. So, does Akron have a spare scholarship available this year? Penn State CB recruit Darrell Givens will be able to play at any school of his choosing this year. He doesn't have to sit out a year.I think we should be able to sell him on playing PSU in a month. He was ruled academically eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse, but not by Penn State University.
  12. 10th in the MAC in terms of fan numbers is sad. I've run out of people to invite.
  13. Elton's blurb Playing against the spread is an excuse. I'm tired of excuses on defense. I'm wondering who this is referencing. I think it might be about Akron playing a Matt Rodgers a bit. We need him to have experience for when he takes over next year.
  14. PSU freshman LB Glenn Carson charged with public drunkenness and underage drinking.Living up to that #1 party school ranking. That's 6 now. How many more players will be gone before the season starts? O/U starts at 4.
  15. Media picked Akron to finish 3rd in the MAC.West Division1. Central Michigan (154 points)2. Western Michigan (126)3. Northern Illinois (103)4. Toledo (71)5. Ball State (58)6. Eastern Michigan (34)East Division1. Buffalo (155 points)2. Temple (144)3. Akron (128)4. Ohio (116)5. Bowling Green (101)6. Can't State (51)7. Miami (33)MAC Championship GameCentral Michigan (18), Western Michigan (4), Buffalo (2), Temple (2)
  16. Freshman CB Darrell Givens is ineligible to play this year at Penn State. He is looking to play at a prep school so he doesn't have to sit out a year. He was rated the #6 CB in the nation on Scout and was being counted upon to bolster a relatively weak secondary.Bombs away, Jacq.
  17. Prepare to be shocked, then. As long as the 3-3-5 is employed, the defense will suck no matter who is on the field.
  18. Who are the people actually paying money to view rivals' forums and stories? Are most of them actual coaches/scouts? Otherwise, they're either crazy or have way too much money. There are coaches that pay for other teams (subscription is done by team), which draws some fans to subscribe and get "insider info", which the coaches can give out behind the security of the website. it's how most info leaks and rumors get started. It doesn't really work when you have a strong independent site like Zipsnation, though. I do hang out on the free boards for their Akron website, but there's no one to talk to.
  19. They'll also be on Twitter and Facebook.Anyway, it will be interesting to see how badly the media screws up their votes again.
  20. Maybe we should just schedule CSU and be done with this debate. Oh wait...MAN UP, WATERS.
  21. I'm not quite sure you get it. I WANT to give my money to the school and athletic department, in multiple ways, and I also want to encourage others to do the same but they're making it so difficult that it's frustrating.I've been talking about the stadium since they bulldozed the first dorm, and now when people ask me about buying tickets I have to tell them that they can't because only a month from the opener they still aren't on sale. UA is throwing away money.
  22. Nothing to worry about unless it affects attendance, recruiting, or the team's performance. I don't think any of those will be impacted by the freaking number light poles. (The Rubber Bowl was a different story...)
  23. Scout is calling him a sleeper.Of course, most of the recruits are considered "sleepers" by Scout. "They might be good, but they're going to Akron so they can't be classified as a top player so we'll say they have potential and call them a sleeper." They say it about every single guy who comes here.
  24. Definitely. Akron has terrible representation on this Facebook app even when compared to other MAC schools and smaller schools. It's hard to be taken seriously when the other team has thousands of active fans compared to two or three for Akron. This is what they see, this is how they form their opinions of opposing fan bases.
  25. It looks like they could easily add two more light poles behind the stands.
