From GoZips.com:With the grand opening of InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field seven weeks away, GoZips.com Insider Josh Harris begins a weekly behind-the-scenes look at the new home of the Akron football program. The first installment of the countdown series examines the scoreboard and video screen. The Zips home opener comes on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. EDT versus Morgan State.By Josh HarrisGoZips.com InsiderOne of the most noticeable and talked about additions to InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field over the last month is that of the state-of-the-art scoreboard and video screen. Viewed as a vital part of the interactive gameday experience at the soon-to-open venue, the approximately 100-foot-long installment has an enormous presence – towering over the concourse level at 40 feet and an equally impressive 60 feet above the field level.Work on the scoreboard and video screen has occurred in multiple and noticeable phases. First, was the installation of the four powder-coated mounts, which received a paint job in the recognizable “Akron Blue”. Next came the addition of the structural frame, to which all further pieces have been mounted.Among the components that will enhance the in-game experience for fans are the 10 individually mounted sponsor signs and the scoreboard itself, which will inform patrons of basic in-game information such as quarter of play, game clock, ball placement and downs to go and the score. The scoreboard was assembled in three sections. A video message board below the scoreboard was also put in place in three sections and will provide space for additional announcements and interactive messages to fans.Arguably, the most impressive and notable feature of the entire structure is the video screen. Dominating the south endzone of the stadium at approximately 40-feet-wide by 25-feet-tall, video of live game action, replays, advertisements and announcements never before available during the Zips football gameday experience will be on display. There are two other scoreboard and video screen areas within the stadium that will enhance the gameday experience. A side ribbon board running along the east side upper deck will provide basic in-game information and on the north endzone building, there is a small scoreboard complete with game clock, game score, yards and downs to go, ball possession and play clock.Extra Points: During the visit to learn more about the scoreboard and video screen structure, the hillside behind the south endzone was receiving sod and the netting behind each goal post was also being put into place.Check back with GoZips.com next week for a sneak peek inside the Club Level of InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field.
