  1. Skip-Zip, I am all for upgrading the Zips schedule, but our approaches on how to achieve that seem to differ.I ask you this: What team's results would you rather have right now? Akron's or Miami's? The RPI is the same. Please don't tell me you would rather have a team with a 14-14 overall record. Please don't tell me you would want to see the Zips lose by massive margins on a road game that serves no purpose except for playing a numbers game. Akron learned a lot more about itself playing a close game at Dayton than Miami learned by getting blown out at Kansas.Do the Zips need to stop playing teams like Binghamton and NC Central? Absolutely. Do they need to replace those games with road trips to get slaughtered at some media darling like Duke? No way. We need more solid mid-majors on the schedule. Playing more teams from the Atlantic 10 or MVC would be a definite upgrade compared to NC A&T and a win against them can be considered a solid win, while occasionally beating a major team can be called a fluke.
  2. I don't get why people still have it in their heads that Miami (OH) has a better RPI than us. The fact is: Akron has a better RPI than Miami. Their schedule has failed them. What's the point of getting your ass kicked by some name school to artificially inflate your RPI if you can't follow it up with wins in conference?Akron is the best team in the MAC right now, although it may be hard to believe by looking at the numbers. Can't lost to BG and sucked pretty badly at home against a team that they only beat because Miami happened to be the worst team in the country that day. Akron beat both Miami and Ohio on the road in the same stretch. In an Akron-Can't final, I would put my money on Akron, even if I wasn't a Zips fan. Can't doesn't deserve an at-large, but they will probably get one because it seems like all the other bubble teams are trying their hardest to screw up right now.
  3. I don't know. They looked pretty darn bad in that Miami game.Or maybe thay have figured out that
  4. I look foward to all of our JUCO's and transfers that become eligible to play this year. I know that JUCOs and transfers are usually a quick fix for this year only that should allow our past few top recruiting classes to mature, but they seem like they could be a step above our past talent levels and we may have a boatload of quality players and a deeper talent pool than we have ever had before.
  5. I know this might sound mean to those of you that are in need of a ticket, but I really like this. I wish we had ticket demand like this more often. I've never seen excitement for a game at the JAR like this before. The University really needs to set up a ticket exchange program.
  6. I am pretty sure that was the tanning salon. They are already moved in to their new location next to the Subway near the corner of Exchange and Spicer. It marks the first demolition of a Zip-Strip property in quite some time, and a great first step to getting the rest of it torn down.
  7. That one building was an apartment. It is currently getting stripped to be ready for demolition. It was the only building that wasn't UA property to begin with, so they had some extra procedures to go through before they can tear it down. It should be coming down by the end of the week.
  8. Skip-Zip, Akron is ahead of Miami in RPI, and can pass OU with a win over Can't State, plus our SOS will go up quite a bit just by playing them.Current MAC RPI rankings ans SOS comparisons:#32 Can't State; SOS #131#70 Ohio; SOS #102#81 Akron; SOS #173#82 Miami; SOS #41#115 Western Michigan; SOS #209#164 Central Michigan; SOS #170#190 Bowling Green; SOS #180#220 Toledo; SOS #108#238 Eastern Michigan; SOS #233#263 Buffalo; SOS #177#281 Northern Illinois; SOS #134#293 Ball State; SOS # 142Can't is the only team where the RPI would matter come selection time. OU has a better resumé than us (for now), but we beat them twice.
  9. I wasn't nervous at all. Bubba was doing that because he was so focused on winning the game himself that he completely forgot about the other 4 players on his team that were out there. A ball hog like that will always screw up in the end.
  10. Thanks, OZoner! Good luck to you guys. We're rooting fot OU to get that 4 seed and the bye.
  11. It doesn't matter if we can't afford it. A top team that goes to the tournament every year deserves their own stadium. They've earned it.
  12. I thought Cincinnati was playing @ Akron. ??What, and ruin the chance to start off the season with 5 straight road games?
  13. WMU loses, and Can't wins, along with us beating Ohio to set up the top three seeds. Can't is #1, no matter what happens, WMU is a lock for the #2, and Akron is the #3.We have Ohio, Miami, and Central all battling the #4, and I hope Central gets it.
  14. They own all the tie-breakers.Anyways, If WMU loses tonight, then we can guarantee ourselves the three-seed by beating Can't, and that would also set up a potential Akron-Can't final.
  15. I was wondering why they were giving the students actual tickets for this game, instead of the usual card-swipe thing. Now I know why.
  16. Easy. MAC might not have men's soccer in a few years. I would rather be in a conference that is stable in that sport, even if we don't get to be the "big fish in the little pond". We might even get an at-large bid every once in a while with the added respect that comes from being a non-MAC team.
  17. The stadium is being paid with bonds.Future construction (the soccer stadium, more dorms, ect.) is already budgeted out even though they don't have the money yet. Once they get the money for the stuff that's already approved, it should help.On the positive side, Proenza has shown an incredible amount of commitment to raise this university to its full potential, which is higher than most people around Akron would dare to dream, and it scares them (hence the always-negative comments on Ohio.com such as "Akron is a Division II commutter school. Why should they waste money on nice new things? They're supposed to be grey, run-down, and poor, like the rest of the city")
  18. If we can beat OU and Can't, we'll be in a much better position than we are right now to get into an post-season tournament.
  19. While that is true, Can't would still hold the tiebreaker over Akron, which would be their win over Western, giving them the #1 seed, and Akron still sitting at #3. In order for Akron to move to the #1 seed, Can't would need to lose to Miami and Akron, while Akron runs the table and wins tonight, at Ohio and Can't.Yes. Miami has a chance to beat Can't, if they can figure out their problems. If OU loses tonight and we win, we pretty much assure ourselves of the 3 seed.
  20. Here's what we should want to happen tonight:Miami to beat OhioWMU to lose to ToledoCMU to beat NIUThat makes the Ohio game incredibly important, since it will secure the 3-seed. If WMU loses twice, Can't loses to Miami, and we beat Ohio, We could win the MAC regular season title and gaurantee a spot in the NIT, if we can't win the MAC tourney.
  21. Also forgot to mention: If Can't loses tonight, and Miami can pull off the upset, we will have a chance to win the MAC East on March 9th, assuming we can figure out how to beat Ohio.
  22. We won't fall into the same trap. We blew our Bracketbuster, and have lost 2 in a row at home. It's time for a statement game. I'm thinking a blowout, especially if the Rowdies can get WITHERSPOON!!! called for a Technical or two.
  23. Because if they do it right, it won't just be used for basketball games. It could be used for concerts in winter, rallys, high-profile speakers, ect.
  24. Get out of the MAC... I like that idea. Maybe they can get the soccer team into the Big East? It would be nice to have one foot in the door when the conferences shift again.
  25. If Cinci is a sellout, the Rubber Bowl will collapse into the hillside.
