Jacquemain Update & a Coach Is Suspended w/Pay
ditchrider1 replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Football
Heard from a very reliable source what else Jaq did besides theft, not pretty but may explain the problem with stealing money. -
My letter of support for J.D. Brookhart
ditchrider1 replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
My issue with JD has always been the inability to adjust to what he has to work with.Every year it is the same nonsense. We continually try to run the Shitgun hand-off which unless you have a burner of a QB and/or HB is worthless. It is pretty much the same as an un-set up draw play seeing that your are 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage and have to make it 8 yards to gain 3?Every year we have undisciplined players getting hit with 15 yard personal foul penalties. We do not seem to want to switch up our schemes to fit our skill set and it kills us every time. JD seems stubborn to make it happen with what he thinks will work. The 3-3-5 is terrible, I cannot get it to work on my XBOX 360 so it has to be worthless...lol.Overall I had very high hopes for JD and the program but it seems to me that his recruiting is spotty. We get these talented transfers andrecruits and most of them don't pan out. We do not load up on skill positions and he do not recruit Ohio very well. Get some strong local talent and we can help on two fronts...good players and local interest is peaked.I think we got extremely lucky to win the one MAC title we did and since then nothing. We manage to lose too many winable games...more so than any team I have ever followed or seen. Never do I feel comfortable with a lead, countless times I have sat in the Rubber Bowl with a queasy stomach just waiting for the lead to disappear and sure as shit it did.I love Akron football and will always be on board but I think we need some fresh blood running the ship. I wanted JD to succeed and thought he was building something special but unfortunately I have lost faith in what he is trying to do.Go Zips and pound CMU -
I thought the away trips were cool as well but at this time the U needs to focus 110% of their attention on getting people to fill up that shiny new stadium of theirs.

Take this as me voicing my displeasure for the whole situation, team, coaches, students, stadium staff/university and some fans!-Team...stop breaking rules, beating people up and playing undisciplined football...Personal fouls have got to stop.-Coaches...Get rid of the crappy Shotgun hand-off, get your team in line and stop recruiting punks.-Students-what else is there to do on a Saturday in Akron, why the drop-off in attendance in week 2, its free for Gods sake? You can get drunk before and after the game and if your slick...during the game if you need it that badly!-Stadium Staff/University- you desperately need butts in the seats. Stop bitching at kids and adults for standing by the rail on the "hill" what is the issue? It was fine in week one what changed? Let people leave at halftime and come back...you wont sell beer inside so let people go to BW3 or Pints for a cold halftime beer or else bring back the Rubber Bowl beer garden? They let us leave and come back at the JAR for hoops when I went to the U, you need people there badly!!! Give away tickets! Be like a drug-dealer, get people hooked. "this first one is free but next time you have to pay" This will quickly become one of the nicest emptiest stadiums in the country if the University doesn't loosen up its grip.-Some Fans...you bitched about the Rubber Bowl, now its gone, so show up to the new stadium and support your team. Learn the game of football and cheer at the appropriate times. Spread the word...you can like both Akron and Ohio State...I do! We live in Akron not Columbus, go to the Zips games, its very inexpensive, alot closer and less expensive than OSU games.I am going to all of the home games and hopefully some away games. I will be supportive, cheer loudly at all of the appropriate times. I have pumped up this program and stadium to as many people that will listen and I am bringing some newbies to games this year so I am doing "my part from the start"Other than that, this whole situation needs to be stepped up and quick before this is ruined and we are even more of a laughing stock the we already are. Thanks

Well hopefully I will catch them at the IU game...guess I missed them. Thanks for the info.

I'm not sure what section you were sitting in, but in 202/204 there were vendors up and down the aisles all game longI was in 215 and I did not see anyone selling anything. Is 204 in the GA seating or is it a reserved section?
-
Yes... I agree with one of the posters on the Gopher site and it reminded me of what we should have at the Info.Walking Vendors going up an down the stadium selling food/drinkI would love to buy a dog and a drink while sitting in my seat! Why do we not have any vendors in the crowd?

My report from the game...The Good-The scene on campus and the the surrounding neighborhoods was as it should have been for all of these years. A sense of celebration and pride running through everyone.Alot of people back on campus for the first time in years! It was like a reunionThe stadium is wonderful...way better full of butts then at the open house. How quickly(once your in the gates) you can get to your seat...it is very well designed. The amount of space between the people in front of you and behind you...no bumping into anyone or obstructed views in front of you, the bleacher design is great.Standing on the walkway under the scoreboard...Nice and shaded with a wonderful late summer breeze to watch from a different angle. The bathrooms...I walked right to 8 open urinals with no problem! The Bad-The majority of the fans...RIDICULOUS!!!! Almost embarrasing in the GA section. The first drive of the game Morg ST. was driving on the Zips. 3rd & 2 and everyone sitting on their azzes! Get up and make noise!!! It seemed like the majority of people had never been to a football game in their lives! Maybe they were in such shock at the new stadium but it was bad. They were not into the game at all? Also the students on the hill...Zips scored in the HILL end zone and maybe half cheered, the rest were texting for most of the game. The other student sections were great. The line to get in right before the game. Seriously, lets get those tickets checked a bit quicker. The concession lines...seemed very long for not selling alcohol? The scorboard operator? What was going on in the first quarter? 1st and 9, 4th and 0...Should have been plenty of time for a test run!MY WISHLISTA scoreboard somewhere to show stats...first downs, rushing yards etc...Would be very nice! The small scoreboard to show down and distance...had to keep craning back to see the big one.I know this is a stretch and I do not expect it at all but it is a wishlist...RE-ENTRY allowed. BW-3 is right there to have a cold one at halftime!!!! It would be perfect if you could leave and come back but oh well!Overall It was awesome...It felt very odd, it seemed like an away game to be honest but I am just used to the Rubber Bowl.I think if we continue to build on our traditions, get the damn fans into the game and implement some more cool things to gameday, it will be a very daunting place to have to come play. Until the fans step it up though, it will be tough to make it "our own"Great job U of A!

Didn't know we finished 7-5 last year! And we received no Bowl berth wtf?
-
The Directions to InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field link takes you directly to the most up-to-date routing to the Rubber Bowl.Honestly...did you really expect anything less? Anyone who has anything to do with this Universtiy knows that little things like this have always plagued the U of A. Its the little things like this that give it so much charm and one of the reasons I have always loved this school and the sports programs that come with it.See you at the Rubber Bowl in a few days!

A $20 six-pack of beer? What is this Bob-a-Louies "to go" beer at closing?
-
Please don't kill me for saying this and I am not complaining but I do feel the South-scoreboard end looks a bit barren. That end of the stadium is wide wide open and there really is no significant backdrop, i.e tall trees or buildings, I wonder if the have any plans to "fill" in that area or spice it up a bit, aesthetically it is a bit challenged especially compared to the North end.
-
Any idea how to get involved in them? I'd love to do this since I'm living in AK for the summer.Looks like another layer is going on the endzone buildings!I honestly don't know.I read it here.Did they really write an article to say the blimp was flying by?Slow news day I guess.
-
I stated 15-20,000the lack of marketing and advertising has been embarrasing. Everyone should be fully aware of the new stadium by this time and know when the opening game is. What else goes on in this city? People should be chomping at the bit for opening day.
-
Or they will have ticket lines out the azz on opening day...people will stand in line forever because you know they will not be prepared or staffed to handle a huge walk-up crowd. This will also turn-off the consumer who does not want to wait in line for a ticket like they are riding a coaster at cedar point.I swear the only thing the U of A does efficiently is write parking tickets and drop your classes for non-payment.I thought for sure they would turn a corner and get organized with the new stadium but sadly it is the same old story.Speaking of staffing for the stadium...has anyone seen any ads(I personally have not seen squat) hiring for stadium help, concessions or anything? I am curious to see how they are going to run this massive operation?

The same reason you cannot buy a Zips replica football jersey from GoZips.com

Video boards awaiting installation? Looks like there are a few in the same spot on the west bowl.I think those platforms might be the base for handicapped seating areas. If you look at the seating diagram on the Tickets page of the UA website, there are rectangular lines at the back of lower sections 101 through 113 on the east side, and sections 108 through 120 on the west side. You are correct. That is handicap seating.I just want you to know the above was not all that I wrote. It was edited by someone other than myself. Apparently the moderator took offense at the possibility I really had been hired to throw people in wheelchairs over the concrete wall and onto the platforms.I was wondering how they would get onto the platforms...now it all makes sense!
-
The coaches will want the scoreboard (more specifically, the clocks) operating in time for practices.Figure they'll also be putting up the poles and nets to catch the extra point and field goal kicks?Looks like they are laying down the road.

Still waiting on those Zips replica football jersey's that cannot be found anywhere?I even emailed the marketing guy and he has not responded.UA athletics has been so abysmally bush-league for so long I, tragically, am often quite accustomed to it. But The University of Akron simply cannot afford a shabbily run athletics department anylonger - this year, with the opening of the Info, is a watershed year. Replica jerseys - be they football, basketball or baseball - are taken-for-granted staple offerings of any college or professional sports team shop. Any, that is, but UofA.Totally agree. I went to the Akron @ Purdue game a few years ago and they had several Purdue, home/away replicas for sale and very affordable. No excuses...we are under 2 months away from opening a new stadium and I cannot buy a replica jersey??ridiculous.

Welcome to the ZN family! And good question. Could they be platforms to stand on as workers install the ribbon scoreboard? What about that little "window" on the soutwest corner of the pressbox side where they have yet to attach the rest of the bleachers? Anybody know what that is? It surely cant be a window as the bleachers will be put overtop of it?
-
Anyone know what that little "window" on the southern-most pressbox side is? It is in the section where they have yet to add the rest of the bleachers? They cut it out about a week ago and now they are doing something with it. I cannot imagine it will be exposed after the bleachers are added over top of it?
