  1. What about where Central Hower is currently....demo that and build arena there?
  2. ABORT!!! ABORT!!!! STAY IN THE MAC!!! Just kidding...I would still take a conference move in order to get better over the long haul. Playing in the MAC will not prepare you for a deep tournament run. I know Can't State made a run and OU did as well but in the grand scheme of things I think playing the best will make you the best and will build a consistently good team that can make the tourney every year, and without the auto-bid. Also, VCU was out of their minds. They would have beaten 90% of the teams in the tournament last night the way they played. Akron looked like a different team and not a good one.
  3. Do you think we would actually jump from the MAC to the Big 10 or another Power conference? Butler went from the Horizon to the A10 and now to the Big East. This is a stepping stone if we ever hope to move to a Big conference. The A10 is a great league, probably the best non power conference along with the MVC. The A10 got 5 bids to the tourney...MAC is stuck at 1 bid. I think it would be foolish to at least not explore it. What is the tagline for the basketball program, Think Bigger?
  4. Even just a Basketball only move? Of course football may be able to actually compete in FCS!
  5. Seems like a golden opportunity to try to weasel our way into a better conference for Basketball? If we make a small run in the tourney do you think we could make a play to get in to the A10? Also, with a potential new arena on the rise, it seems like it would be a nice fit
  6. I see Massillon vs McKinley is at Can't Saturday night at 7pm? Wonder if this may have been played at the Info if it weren't for the the UMass game already scheduled? Wonder what the attendance comparision will be? Massillon vs McKinley Part 2 or UMass (0-5,0-9) vs. Akron (0-6, 1-9) Possible lost revenue maybe...lol?
  7. That was a very entertaining game, crowd was very animated! The 15 yard hits were terrible calls for the most part, I think one earlier in the game was warranted. There was no leading with the head on the last drive, it was his shoulder and when Miami runs those quick over the middle routes and they catch the ball 2 yards in front of you, I am not sure what the refs expect the defender to do other than run into the receiver. Most of them were "bang-bang" plays The refs saw a vicious hit and threw the flag that was bottom line. Really there is no other way to tackle when it happens that fast, they have no time to drop low and wrap up. Field Judge missed a blatant hold in the 2nd quarter on a Dysert scramble coming my way down towards the "closed" end, he watched the hold for a good 15 yards and didn't throw the flag? Two guys on the sideline, don't know who they were, they were part of the guests or whoever is allowed to stand on the sidelines down around the 10 yard line were giving the Field judge an earful, so much that the APD had to grab them and pull them back...lol Overall the refs made terrible calls but our secondary is atrocious. We just do not have the talent to defend a good passing team like that. My biggest complaint and this is rampant across all levels of football but especially with our secondary, is the defensive backs trying to play defense without even looking at the ball! I can't for the life of me figure out why they try to defend a receiver and just rely on watching the receivers eyes and waiting to react until the receiver makes a catching motion...If you are a DB...LOOK FOR THE DAMN BALL!!! Geez, it was horrible, bad technique IMO. Overall fun day at the stadium. If we had a secondary, we are a potential Bowl team. Great game by Chisolm, hard running and really finished on each play. DW makes some really nice throws and our receivers makes some nice catches. Amazing this is essentially the same talent that Ianello had. I for one am excited as ever for Zips football and cant wait until Bowden & co. assemble some more talent. Extra thanks to the gentleman who gave my friends and I, four free tickets while we were standing in line to buy ours. Home side, section 106, row 15. Thank you sir! Guess that was karma for two years ago when I gave away to someone standing in line an extra ticket I had... just 3 times over!
  8. She's HOT!!!
  9. Just saw the ratings released for this upcoming game and the mighty Zips are ranked........ #120 out of #120 Overall Should be fun trying to rebuild the program and take them from worst to....?
  10. Finally! better late than never....I see our #1 rated fan base filling the seats in the video...must be the Hoban vs St.V mode added to the game!
  11. "Take off...eh!"
  12. Ugghhhh...I am sick and tired of playing Penn State! Play a different Big 10(12) school so I can travel to a new stadium. Play Minnesota, Mich St, Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa, somebody please! No more Indiana, PSU or Ohio State, blah.
  13. Offer up some free tattoos to T.Pryor and the gang and you're in! Seriously though, I think the U of A may sell any allotment they get later in the summer(contact the ticket office) or you could pick some up from a seller/broker in Columbus, that is the first game of the year and classes aren't in session for OSU yet so they shouldn't be too hard to pick up.
  14. 33.97 % capacity on average Bring back the beer garden!
  15. Congratulations to all of the players and coaches!
  16. Dysfunctional is a good description. It's confusing and flat-out just doesn't make sense how we could have, no... SHOULD have beaten the MAC champs?! We're probably the worst team in all of D-1A football, get absolutely rolled by NIU, yet... whatever, it does no good to try and understand it. Again, the MAC is so pathetic it's just begging for a mediocre school to dominate the conference and garner illegitimate Top 25 rankings. Come on, iCoach! Make us that illegitimate Top 25 team! Like Marshall did? Yes, it does seem like it's not that difficult of a task. I've never liked the "Miami beat NIU, and we almost beat Miami, so maybe we could compete with NIU now" logic. It's one game, and it's a major upset. But I do feel as if we were playing better at the end of the season, despite the fact that it was also the easiest part of the schedule. The problem is, most of the guys that made things happen this year are graduating. If we had shown some improvement at the end of the year, and could attribute it to the growth of young players who might get even better in the future, I might be more inclined to buy into that thought. What really sickens me is that Miami did this with their backup QB. Wasn't this something like his 4th game? And he throws for 333 yards against NIU? So much for the "we need to give guys time to develop" argument. If someone is a good player, they will start to produce when given the opportunity. We need to be able to RECRUIT more of that level of player. Wagner certainly never had to wear the "just give him some time" label for very long. I'm tired of waiting for guys to develop and grow. Coaches can only do so much with guys who struggle to produce. Was Boucher recruited late by OSU? Don't know but I bet we didn't even recruit him...he's from Ohio and played for a hugely successful program...Kettering Alter who is in the championship hunt on a regular basis why would Akron recruit him? That's not how we do things. See Akise Teague from Younsgtown Ursuline: 2008,09 & 10 State Champion. Over 500 yds and 7 TD's in those last two title games combined Ohio Mr.Football 2010 and just under a 3.0 student. Currently interested in 3 MAC schools(Miami, BG, OU) but none are Akron...did we recruit him? probably not but there is a damn good chance we will have to try to tackle him on a yearly basis for the next 4 years and he may be taking hand-offs from Boucher!
  17. I just hope these games are in HD!!! My standard def TV just blew up and I do not want to deal with watching the final four in standard def on an HD tv. Why the final four of anything is not in HD baffles me...get it together ESPN!!!! Glad they have HD poker though seriously?
  18. IMNHO, this is a real good home schedule next year on both an entertaining/interesting level and importance of winning the MAC East (If Miami can do it, we can do it) level. Some think getting our butts kicked by BCS teams is an indication of where the program is...maybe. I believe a better indication is how we do against other non-BCS D-1A teams. Playing FIU at home will allow us to better measure our program in the world of reality. Please tell me that you are joking. Nobody cares about FIU or VMI. That is a joke of a home non conference schedule. A gauge of our program needs to be against the Indiana's of the world. We already play garbage in the MAC. Measures against other garbage teams does nothing to get fans interested. 1. Nobody cared about Indiana. 2. Nobody cared about Syracuse. 3. "MAC Garbage" Temple defeated Big East Champion Connecticut this year. 4. Negativism for the sake of being negative needs to stop on this board. I think FIU and VMI are two good games. Sure I wish we could have gotten a Minnesota or a Wake Forest or another lower ranked BCS school to come here but we need to win games , win fans and win recruits. We can beat FIU and VMI and should...especially at home, then if we win all of our MAC home games, we are are bowl eligible. We win ONE road MAC game and then we end up 7-5, 5-3 and possibly in contention for the MAC East. The more chances for wins the better until we get better talent in here. Once we get talent in here and a solid system then we can go out and worry about bigger named opponents coming here. I doubt people go to the Info to see Indiana in action! They go to see us beat Indiana and if we suck like this year then we have no chance to beat an Indiana...no one wants to see us get hammered by a bigger school but if we have a good chance to beat the bigger school then yes, I believe it will draw interest.
  19. They have to get a kicker! That killed them, shame to see them lose because of not having someone to kick extra points or FG's! Nonetheless great to see a City school make it that far.
  20. So I have been watching the title games so far yesterday and today and have seen some very talented players. First and foremost Akise Teague a HB from Youngstown Ursuline. He is kind of small so I figure hey, maybe too small for the Big 10 but has a desire and heart that is Big 10 and beyond big. Definitely I think he would be a great asset to the Zips so I decide to do some research. I see his final schools in the running are as follows: Bowling Green Cincy Iowas State Miami OH Ohio Wisonsin YSU So my question is how is Akron not on that list? What are we doing(or not doing) to find local talent that is going to help us win games in the future. Please tell me Coach I that you tried your azz off to get this kid. He is Mr Football, granted Division 5 but Ursuline plays easily a D1/D2 schedule. Another great HB I saw last night was Antwan Gilbert from Trotwood Madison. He was tearing it up, special teams, great runner and much bigger than Teague above...most likely a Big 10 talent so we probably had no chance with this guy but I hope we were beating down his door nonetheless! Another thing...I really hoped we at least contacted Shaq Washington from Maple Hts because that kid is an athlete, took over the game. Doesn't fit our current Pro-Style system but would have been great in Coach Brookharts spread offense. I hoe we start recruiting some more local talent. I have heard some say that it will not help but I totally disagree. It believe it would definitely draw interest within the community and there are some very talented players throughout the state.
  21. LOL...yes because our 1-11 record and empty stadium really proves that, hey the grass in greener over here? "Maybe I should have went to Akron because..."
  22. Why did they move Jalil Carter to offense, robbing an already weak secondary, only to not throw the ball to him for the first 7 or 8 games. Then when they finally utilize him he is the most productive receiver on the team. Why....because its what we do here at Akron.
  23. I completely agree with this right here.
  24. My first Akron game was an Acme Zip game at the Bowl against Salem College of Virginia. I was about 12 and my stepdad and his friends had a cook-out at one of their houses before hand. We all then went to the game and the place was packed! Akron crushed Salem and I had a great time. Ever since then I have followed the Zips. I was at the Rubber Bowl almost every weekend, friday night city series double-headers and then the Zips on Saturday. I watched them battle thorugh games against Redskins, Hurons, Colonels and Governors...the good ole' days. While attending Akron, I hung out with alot of players back around 94-98' and always went to as many games a possible. I have tailgated at the Bowl, got hammered behind the plastic picket fence in the beer garden, sat in the rain vs. VA TECH, seen them blow leads vs Can't and UCONN and left early at the Marshall miracle...DOH! I even have the VHS tape of Chuck Frye leading the Zips to victory vs. Ohio in his debut. I made several road trips for the Zips for regular season, championship and bowl games. I will always root for the Zips but the past two years I have fallen out of touch with them. I honestly liked them better when they sucked in the Rubber Bowl...it was less embarrassing. I do not like the "new" era of Zips football, I am not excited to travel to campus on Saturdays. The university has screwed the game-day experience...donations for parking, seriously? They should offer to come pick up people at their homes to attend games and drive them back afterwards! Alcohol for the elite in the suites? Where do they think they are an elite SEC school? Those loges will continue to be empty...Pretty soon they will be laying blue tarps over entire sections of seats like they did in the Rubber Bowl to make the stands look fuller. I have not been back since the Syracuse game this year, it was boring and the atmosphere non-existent so now I listen on the radio and probably wont go back until I can justify spending my hard earned money on the product. Call me crazy but I miss the Rubber Bowl days already.
  25. The Plain Dealer, Elton Alexander story today about the game mentioned...."an intimate crowd of 7,671" Awww that sounds so pleasant and comforting....
