Not trying to blast away or even change your mind, but you do realize that general admission tickets are $15 for every home game EXCEPT Syracuse? Nope...good to see we are hosing people for the "premium" games though.
-
I will predict that I will not be in attendance but the Zips will prevail 27-7. I know as everyone has mentioned comparably to other programs, $25 per ticket is a good deal but I cannot bring myself to spending almost $80(2 tix, parking and solar calculator totaled concessions) to see Akron vs Gardner Webb. I will be listening at home watching more entertaining games, saving my money to invest in a better product that has a higher R.O.I I will always be a Zips fan but I have to begin being smarter with my finances and can't bring myself to keep throwing money at something that just upsets me for 3-4 hours a weekend and isn't worth the price I am paying...bad management, bad product. I will pay $18-20 tonight for two tickets and concessions to go see Falls vs North with my daughter which will also be a struggle of futility, but will be much more entertaining and have a better atmosphere...IMO. Love the Zips and have spent bundles in the past following them around the Midwest but over the past two years I have grown tired of regretting my purchase every Sunday when I sit down to pay my bills online. God bless the coaches and student athletes giving their all each week. Blast away Zips Nation...I can take it.

I swear I typed in Go zips and it took me to the Syracuse vs Akron splash. Now I do the same thing and there is no splash page? My bad

Still shows Akron vs Syracuse September 4th....seriously? Let's get it together U of A

So what is the percentage we would then drive down the field two more times and score compared to driving down the field one more time and scoring? I get what you are saying but we were getting shoved around all night long...this was the time when we should have grabbed our pecans and went for it to show we weren't a bunch of conservative patsies. If there were 13 minutes left in the third quarter then absolutely kick it, but with 4:56 left(not 10 mins as you stated) in the 3rd that showed a complete lack of confidence in the offense which was warranted but part of being a coach is to instill confidence in your team and be a motivator. What does that say to your team when probably 99% of them figured we were going for it and you said kick it. Even a successful FG wouldn't have given the team the spark they needed to come back....17-6 who cares, to me that says hey at least we scored 6 and didn't get blown out. Sure the kicker was jazzed but the offense defeated. The offense was actually driving for the first time in the game...let em' try to finish it off and if they do get the first I GUARANTEE the game does not end 29-3 and hell we could have pushed to tie and possibly win. If they don't convert at least they went down swinging as a team and probably don't lose 29-3 and we are done with 'Cuse and ready to battle Gardner-Webb. Now we have a team lacking confidence in themselves and from the staff. A team that is pressed to not blow it all by losing to a FCS school. Nothing spells disaster like a young team pressing to make something happen...a few early INTS and a slip up by special teams and we are looking at 0-4 to start MAC play. Ianello has an uphill battle this year and he needs to spend as much time building confidence in these young players as he does trying to get wins. Sometimes you can win several times throughout the game without winning the game overall and what he didn't do on that 4th down I believe did a lot more harm than good in the long run...hope I'm wrong.

I have never coached and I knew that was a crap decision...I am sorry but no mulligans and shame on his staff for not calling him out if they had the chance to. We need a staff that will work together and step up when something is ready to go array. i get it, you can get caught up in the moment but that is where your right-hand man chimes in and says....woah Coach, lets go for it, 17-6 is still two scores and 4 and 2 is makeable. Had he admitted it then maybe a mulligan but don't sweep it under the rug. Just admit you screwed up...don't glance over the subject by saying... "When you give up a blocked field goal for a touchdown, when you have a chance to cut it to 17-6, but instead its 23-3, that's a huge turnaround in a game" What does 17-6 do? That was only maybe our 2nd or 3rd trip into their territory the whole game, what made him think we would get back there two more times! Plus 17-6 would require us to make the 40 yd field goal, score a touchdown and then make another field goal to get it to 17 all. Bad decision and that's it....maybe mulligan 3 to 4 illegal formations + bad decision = bad preparation...no mulligan Hell with it...move on and lets win this week.
-
Still confused as to why 17-6 would be a good option? It was 4th and 2 on the 'Cuse 23 with around 5 mins left in the quarter. If we make it, we have a shot at a TD and 17-10 is better than 17-6 which is still better than 23-3. I think he would have earned alot of respect had he decided to go for it on that one. 17-3 needs two scores 17-6 needs two scores 17-10 needs one score 23-3 now were screwed... Just my 2 cents and by the boo's in the crowd I think I am not alone on this one.

100% Agree. To me this was Ianello's chance to put his stamp on the program, grab his footballs and go for it. He failed and it blew up in his face in a big way. The stadium emptied and that was that. A few things I noticed: -Absolutely no one to throw to. Awful, unimaginative routes with nothing seemingly designed to clear space and get someone open. -When the routes immediately broke down, no one came back or tried to get open. -We should have been running screens and play-actions more on first down. -I think someone mentioned we have 94 TE's on the roster...lol. How many passes did we throw to them? -They are still using calculators at some of the concession stands...really? -Crowd was better than last year, more into to the game to begin with. -Defense is formidable, will make some plays this year and hopefully win us a game or two. -Offense should just punt on first down and get the defense back on the field if they are going to be forced to run these crap plays. -Small student turn-out. -Nice LOUD, Syracuse turn-out. -With this poor product on the field along with ticket/parking prices are driving away the casual fan and is starting to anger the hard-cores. -Can't drew 16,535 for FCS Murray State in a crap stadium, we drew 15,969 for Syracuse, a FCS BCS school in a 1 year old state of the art, calculator using, Jumbo-tron flickering and sputtering stadium Looks like another long year for Zips football...hope they can make some changes this week. If they lose to G-Webb it could be crushing for whats left of the program.
-
Did they use calculators to total your purchase like the concession stands last year? Just kidding...I should be happy! Yipee! I will also have to purchase some goods there tomorrow.

I would like to see the majority of the fans act like they care and are at a football game! Last year was ridiculous, so many games where fans were staring blankly into nothing as the game went on. There were plenty of 3rd down and shorts where my friends and I stood up and stomped on the metal bleachers to cheer on the Zips defense and people stared at us like we were idiots. You would of thought we were doing it as someone was teeing off at a PGA event! Oh and to hear...something new. We should stay away from the "Zombie Nation", "Let's Get it Started" type songs and seek out something original to play. The Black Keys would be great...their songs are in quite a few Sports Video Games. On NCAA 10 I had the beginning of "Seperate Ways" by Journey everytime the Zips would kick off at the Rubber Bowl...cheesy I know but that keyboard part and the guitar riff are sweet...and great for a kickoff suspense builder. Yep I am showng my age...half of the probably do not know who Journey is unless they stumbled on them via The Sopranos. I've been talking about this in another thread, but it bears mentioning again. A significant number of people were at our games last year to be a part of the inauguration of the new stadium. We know that. Hopefully, we converted some of them to Zips Fans. So the question is, did plenty of them become fans that will return this season? Will some non-fans (probably the quiet folks you reference) still show up again this year to enjoy the new stadium experience? Or, will this latter group stop coming altogether? I think we'll have some answers over the next couple of weeks. Butts in the seats are Butts in the seats which in turn produces profit(maybe) and meets our attendance requirements but geez, dont stare at people like they are aliens becuase they are yelling and stomping trying to get the place rockin! I can understand them being annoyed if people are F-bombing and what not but...bottom line, everyone cried for a new stadium for years, we got the stadium citizens of Akron, now lets make it our own and make it hell for the opponents to come to Akron....let loose and have some fun! I watched Pitt @ Utah last night and that place was a zoo! I think Pitt had 5 false starts because of the crowd. Granted Utah has won consistently for years so I can see the crowds being waaaaay better but we need to begin to do better...get off your cell phones and please get into the game.

GoZips.com Goes All-Out to Promote Syracuse Game
ditchrider1 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I am 100% behind the fact that this University consistently underachieves when it comes to Sports Marketing/Info. BUT....I have to back the U of A on this one...Jones Junior High website sucks...we got em' Zippers!!! Nonetheless...Go Bluejays! Jones Junior High -
I'm sorry for the umpteenth reference to 'Hard Knocks', but they did a small piece about the center QB exchange when Joe Namath visited camp. Sanchez was having problems too. It amazes me that this is still an issue at the NFL level. I'm going to be keeping an eye on it early in the game. Hope it doesn't result in a TO. I saw that...Wasn't he saying hands on top of each other? Poor Broadway Joe, he looks so beaten down...at least he sober now!
-
Yes, he was. link Thanks again DrZ for following me up!

Why would LBJ show? He is big time...no time for MAC football. I bet he will be on the sidelines for the OSU/Miami game though. Was LBJ at the Info Opener or any games last year? I don't remember hearing.

The uniforms are updated in NCAA 11: Basically the blue pants and jersey are the same as last year, and the white and gold pants are updated to match. The numbers on the white jersey are a bit off, in the game they are the same dark blue as the rest. Still would like to see a gold alternate, maybe white pants, and a blue helmet. I'm sorry= I think it is the stadium that is not updated (according to other posters..I do not have the game). Yeah you are right, the stadium is not in the game, but I am not surprised. I just posted the uniforms showing the updates in case anyone was interested to see the changes. Yep no stadium. I posted it elswhere...according to EA Sports their initial trip to Akron to photograph the stadium was cancelled due to our lovely winter storm this past year. When EA Sports tried to reschedule they apparently were met with an uncooperative U of A staff who was not willing to work with them and EA Sports eventually said hell with it.

Classic (from the last practice) I am a HUGE fane of the"throwback" uniforms worn in the Snow Bowl game at the Rubber Bowl against Can't a few years back! It is an "older" gold than used now with the old "A" logo and some sweet stripes on the sleeves. BTW...I personally loved the Flying A Green Bay Yellow and Navy uni's and created them on the NCAA11 Teambuilder site for my Zips Alternate uni's They also have on the game a white version of last years new blue uni's.

Thanks Dr.Z!

For any folks that care, I noticed that Google Maps has been updated to show the Info from above. It seems also to have been updated with restaurant and establishment titles which can be helpful for the traveling fans visiting Akron for a game find a place to eat or drink. Seems to be a fairly new photo as well since the soccer field shows them installing the new drainage systems.

ABJ: Skyway restaurant plan in holding pattern Several months after a sign went up announcing a new Skyway Drive-In restaurant was planned for East Exchange and Spicer streets, in the shadow of a new University of Akron football stadium, no work has been done on the site. And it's not clear whether the plan will ever move forward. The sign announcing the restaurant is still there. But city of Akron Planning Director John Moore said no drawings or plans for the project have been filed with the city. Steve Large, owner of Skyway, said he does not know what is going on with the site. Read the article. so who owns the property? anyone know of how to find out? According to the Summit County Recorder's Office, it is owned by "SETH BRADLEY OF AKRON INC" (purchased in 1989). If there is a newer owner, it hasn't been recorded there yet. Anyone know what happened to the Skyway opening? That structure now is an embarrassment to the U of A when going down to the stadium. Boarded windows and run down. Open something or tear it down!

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.
ditchrider1 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I hate Bleacher Report. Everything there is sort of tongue-in-cheek (not necessarily this one), and very poorly researched. All rivalry aside, I'm not sure how you could leave K-ent off that list. They've been more miserable than us the last few decades. Tell me about. Any list like this that does not include Can't State can only be viewed as per crap! The article was holding some cred with me until I saw SanDiego St and Vanderbilt. Two schools that do not need to drop down but switch conferences within FBS. SDSU would be better served in the WAC and Vandy anywhere but the SEC, especially for football. -
What if that is scaled back. I have heard this complaint from many Zip fans. I would imagine it's hard to change your "personality" on the radio if you don't want to sound fake. I wonder what Steve would say if asked the question as to why he sounds so negative when the Zips are failing? I get to listen to a lot of college football throughout the country since I have Sirius radio. On the grand scale of things, I think Steve ranks above average around the country. well I know that he has seen waaaay more Zips games than I have so you are correct, maybe that is him scaled back. Nonetheless I will still listen...hopefully Rob I. and the boys will give Mr.French a lot less to groan about this year and for years to come, I know we all as Zips fans need it! Take care!

Your confusing Joe Dunn with Steve French right? Steve does play by play, Joe, or JJ as he is being called, does side line reporting. Joe Dunn is very positive about 95% of what he reports. He is VERY pro Akron. I agree that you can guess the score by the tone of Steve's voice. Both are super nice guys and I have grown to enjoy listening to both. YES...MY FAULT STEVE FRENCH is the one...I am sorry Joe Dunn! Oh I know it is hard to watch and he is an Akron fan but I feel that he should scale the negativity back a bit. Dr.Z...I enjoy listening to sports on the radio...I am a huge AM talk radio guy and most times prefer to listen to the Indians on the radio and that is why it frustrates me because I want to listen to U of A hoops and football but it is difficult at times. Steve really just lets all the negative emotions fly which for a fan is fine but for an announcer providing a service I wish he would tone it down at times. And I have no doubt they are both great guys...Akron guys
