  1. Almost blew our #1 draft pick status today...come on guys!
  2. Not in the least arrogant. Most coaches know and like each other. Dambrot is paying a form of coaching respect. Which means, secondarily, that the Zips are NOT going to deliberately run the Blue Streaks out of the gym. Character counts ... and, KD has great character. Didnt seem like a KD comment, maybe it is all in how you read it. I just took it as him putting the Zips on a pedastle in "deserving to play a school like Akron" as if a less tenured coach at a school like JC would not be worthy of playing the Zips. I mean we almost lost to Walsh two years ago?
  3. Did anyone else think this comment was a bit arrogant? ''It's not a great exhibition game other than the fact Mike Moran has coached a hundred years and deserves to get a game like this,'' Dambrot said.
  4. While running errands Saturday I was listening to 1350 and late in the 3rd quarter, Temple gets a first down and hear a very loud Owl screech in the background at the stadium...then I hear a disgruntled Steve French blurt out. "You might get more fans hear if you didn't play that damn Owl so loud!" Best thing I have heard all year...
  5. Wow...the good ole' DOUBLE ZERO...which is way worse than the single zero...lol If Buffalo could not score at home against Temple we have no chance on the road at Temple. I will second the mans double 00 but raise the Hootin' Owls a FG and make it 51-00.
  6. This program is the embarrassing alcoholic uncle of the family. You have to love him because he is family but... A.) Grandma dies and somehow he aquires her brand new buick then three weeks later shows up to a family function with a scrape all the way down the side and the front end smashed in. B.) Makes the young neices and nephews cry at Christmas because he accidentally lets the truth fly about Santa. C.) Tells Aunt Clara her sweet potatoes taste like cat food and then whe she starts crying at the table tells her that is probably why her husband left her. D.) Borrows money, blows it at the track then comes back to borrow some more because he "met this hot-ass married chick online and she is coming to visit me...wink wink and he needs to western union her money for a bus ticket" E.) Somehow always shows up to a function that you went out of your way to avoid inviting him to and then hits on your daughters high school friends. F.) Tries to wrestle someone at his 20 year class reunion. Okay so the analogies dont make any sense but this program is a complete embarassment.
  7. we suck...bottom line.
  8. So I clicked the $5 Kids day banner on Go Zips and found a funny little nugget of nonsense in the write-up...seriously? AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron Department of Athletics announced on Friday that its football game against Western Michigan on Oct. 23 will be Kids Day and all youth (age 14 and under) will be admitted with purchase of a special general admission $5 ticket. The game is scheduled to tip off at 3:30 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field and will be televised live by SportsTime Ohio. Only at the U of A.
  9. We need to get a QB who can throw decent but can run like hell. Put them in the spread(which I have in the past hated and still kind of do) and let them sling it or run it ala Denard Robinson @ Michigan. Someone had a great post on ZN about the talent needed to run the pro-style(which we cannot get here) and how a quick turnaround can be done via the spread. This is a bad conference with bad teams...always will be, and I think team speed and a good defense can win multiple league titles. Lets go get a really fast JUCO QB, shelve the pro-style and win some games next year.
  10. Speaking of boneheaded. We were up 7-0, stuck deep in our own territory and Nicely drops back to pass gets great blocking, has literally 8-10 seconds to pass and throws a pick-6. So i see about 4 replays and there was not one single Zips receiver anywhere close to where he threw the ball...what the hell was he looking at? No one was in that area by at least 10 yards in any direction. Not a Div I QB at all. Constantly overthrowing receivers, throwing behind the receiver 5 yards away and even when he does complete a pass he waits a little bit too long and doesn't hit them in stride. No reason to bench him because we have no one else but Coach I better be hitting the trails hard for a QB or we are going to have the same crap next year.
  11. So I just started classes to become an OHSAA certified basketball referee this week and low and behold, Joe Jakubick is in my class! Joe Jakubick
  12. Resort to taking matters into your own hands via NCAA Football 11 for the xbox 360. You can recruit who you like, play whatever defense/offense you like, create your stadium and uniforms and actually win. I am done with reality because it sucks.
  13. Thanks...I had fun making it...pain in the azz but I love trying to edit things and put music to it
  14. I have noticed a lot more back to the ball DB play where they appear to be watching the eyes of the receiver and then sticking a hand up to face guard at the last second. There is very little defense on the ball anymore by the DB's. It seems that the speed of some WR's has the DB's in fear of turning around to look for the ball only to turn back and see the WR gone? Who knows...another lost art of the game.
  15. Okay...here it is, possibly one of the few if only alternate angles of the game winning TD to win the MAC Championship. Because I am dork and love to do stuff like this, I decided to edit my footage and put music to it. Hey...this may be the only football title we get in awhile so I wanted to try to spice it up! I almost got my camcorder taken as soon as I walked it but convinced to fool working security it was only a regular camera. Please be kind, I do not work in the AV or TV field(wish I did) but think it turned out pretty cool. Just the fact that it is footage from the crowd and I actually managed to zoom in on the catch I think is sweet by itself...the highlight is my buddy yelling "we won something!" in the background after Hixon made the catch...lol Let me know what you think and lets hope the Zips go out and play like they did on this cold December night almost 5 years ago and get their first win...I wish the team could see this to fire them up! Don't worry...it's not really 12 minutes(just 8 1/2) I just didn't cut the end off correctly but it was really late tonight and I wanted to get the footage up for good luck on game day.
  16. Lack of class? Ha ha...I had at least 3 run-ins hours before the MAC title game in Detroit from NIU fans. They were as clever as drunk spittling in my face shouting "What the hell is a Zips, hu huh" then there was the D.B. who made sure he went out of his way to ensure we didn't get an open bar seat at Hockeytown when it came available. All I heard was how they would be back in a few weeks to "tear up Detroit again" before the Motor City Bowl. Speaking of the title game...I snuck in my video camera and have an "alternate angle" of the game winning TD from the stands until we all got mobbed when we scored and the camera goes awry. I will have to upload it to Youtube, it is pretty sweet.
  17. That is a very good deal, BUT...I dont think I could round up 3 other people to go! I have a hard time finding one other person to go. And I completely echo the beer sentiment. The beer garden at the Rubber Bowl was a great addition.
  18. eric Howard went to a prep-school and won't be a Zip
  19. They need to start bribing the citizens of Akron as well.
  20. Yeah, their stadium is full...
  21. I also have a problem with this here. The stadium is anything but "sterile" it has plenty of character. The problem is you haven't developed any memories in the stadium. That is what adds character to a stadium. There hasn't been anything important (other than opening it) that has happened. Give it time to let the team and surroundings connect with you. Memorable games will happen here. (and as far as support, they have done miles of work and put detail into things, media blitzes are expensive and the budget this year was cleaning up pregame and getting ready to go with STO) That is a great point. I just wish they would have brought the light poles from the Rubber Bowl Thanks for talking me off of the ledge.
  22. The fact that "it isn't fun" for you. Maybe you should try something else and see if you miss going to the game. You might be having fun and not realize it. What Dr. Z said, and that you have such a "everything is wrong and nothing is right" outlook with the football program. Jacquemain & JD let us down last year. My hopes for this year was to see a team be competative, I still believe this team can be. But I'm also the kind of person who feels that there are no constants and that change is inevitable. (meaning we can't constantly lose) All good points...I guess too many years as a sports fan here in NE Ohio and my tendency to fall into the "here we go again" trap. It's hard to be positive when it seems like the same ole same ole every year.
  23. The fact that "it isn't fun" for you. Maybe you should try something else and see if you miss going to the game. You might be having fun and not realize it. that's what I thought. Honestly, it was kind of wearing on me the last year at the Rubber Bowl when they started be hard-azzes about where you could sit and then I had a renewed sense of enthusiasm with the Info but honestly I have been very dissapointed with the whole thing. Maybe I had delusions that the new stadium was going to fix everything(guess I could be an AD!) and now seeing that it takes alot more than that to make a good program is finally sinking in. We were so close a few years ago to turning the corner....ESPN games at the RB, the tailgating field, beer gardens, Championship games, Bowl games. Walking in last week to see the half-full stadium was a big blow and that place is just boring and sterile to me. I know me not showing up does not help the situation but I just have a hard time giving my hard earned money to an establishment that has almost seemed to go out of their way to make the program not successful. Maybe they thought all they had to do was "build it and they will come" but that is obvioulsy not the case. I will be back, I just think I am going to be selective about the games I attend and take this week off to see if I miss it...per your suggestion.
  24. That as is just kind of sad. Sad on what front?
  25. I'm a North Alumnus and even when I played and then coached I couldn't stand watching, I sure as heck wouldn't pay money to see them. And to say that two of the most abysmal high school teams in the county are "more entertaining" to watch, I mean I guess I can't argue some people do prefer comedies. I should have been a bit more specific....I find the whole environment more entertaining...the fans, the students etc, bands etc. I guess I just miss being that age and like to get back to those days a bit more, plus my daughter can hang in the area with her friends and she has alot of fun. The football I agree is bad(sometimes very bad) but these kids havn't been pulled to these schools for their athletic abilities like in college. They are playing because they love to play and there seems to be alot of that lost in the jump from high school to college and more so in the pro game. Nothing is better than seeing the wide variety of kids who make up a high school football team, the really tall kid who should catch every pass because he towers over his defender, the really big kid who has a different uniform because it had to be specially made. So I guess in a way you are right g-mann..there is a bit of comedy in it but I know I need a bit every now and again Overall it comes down to I am just tired of throwing money at something "just because I am a fan" It's just not fun(for me) anymore to go to Zips games...Infocision has no character...the team stinks and the University continues to drop the ball on everything from parking to pricing to the gameday experience...their comedy is no longer funny it's just sad and I have a good idea of the ending.
