  1. George does a Q & A with Jerrod Dillard My two favorite: Q: What are you sensing about this team right now that no one else would know was going on? A: People think we are down in the dumps because we’ve had three 1-11 seasons. That’s obviously not the case. You’ve been around practice. We’re as upbeat as if we went 11-1 last year. Behind the scenes we’re upbeat people. We’re positive. We have all the optimism in the world. Q: You scored nine touchdowns last year. Are you expecting to see more attention for defenses? A: I hope so. That’s just going to make room for everyone else. Honestly, I really don’t care if I catch one pass as long as we are doing good as a team and winning games. I really couldn’t care less. Thursday (8/15) practice - full pads in the morning and shells at night.
  2. Since this is the last place Archer was talked about, I'll post here. He doesn't have his own thread yet. For those that like, or follow Mel Kiper, he is now listing Dri as the 6th best back in the country. Kiper also claims that he made a mistake not leaving last year contrary to what Dri "heard" from the NFL. Looking forward to the matchup on November 2nd. Sports Illustrated writes about his comic strip (change the url to ken+) which debuted @Dri4Heisman. ESPN too (same change on the url) Cartoon found here.
  3. Regular? I don't remember typing that? The MAC has received five at-large bids — 1999, Miami of Ohio; 1998, Western Michigan; 1995, Miami; 1986, Miami; 1985, Miami. Personally, I would like to see the talent level in the league increase to up the entertainment. It used to be that way in the mid to late 90's. Daniels, Trent, Boykins, Hunter, Szczerbiak and Bonzi Wells all played in the NBA. I watched some teams at the JAR last year that were just tur-able. While it's fun for some to watch, it just doesn't prepare the team for its ultimate goal...winning in the NCAA tournament.
  4. According to @ZipsFB only one afternoon practice today (Wed 8/14). George writes about time spent on the kicking game. Read the article to learn who else might help out eventually. Coach is cold in August.
  5. Rian Pearson has been one of the few in the MAC worth the price of admission to some of these MAC games. The MAC can use about four more of him to get back to a 2 bid league. Kid is fun to watch.
  6. ‏@GeorgeThomasABJ tweeting Terry Bowden: @kylepohl is clear No. 1 in Zips camp thus far
  7. Some images from the Zips intro shoot yesterday...found here. Will be fun to see the final product.
  8. Jupitertoo, if you enjoy writing about Zips football, this is a great place to do it, if you come here to criticize typos and grammar from ZN members that contribute to our site, you might want to try somewhere else. Please read this over at your convenience.
  9. I appreciate your work on all Zips related information. I'm sure there are MANY fans that don't post that feel the same. The few that can't look passed minor mistakes, unfortunately are the ones that post. Keep up the good work!
  10. LBJ buys Akron new uniforms....Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School
  11. Years or decades? How about 1940? But most say never. I wonder how many times they covered with the spread in the last decade against top 40 teams.
  12. ...AND effectively pass the ball on offense. That's a lot of ifs.
  13. Because similar universities are better. The local university was judged using exactly the same criteria as Miami (70 percent graduate in four years, 82 percent in six years), Ohio State (51 and 80), Ohio U (44 and 65), Bowling Green (35 and 58), Can't State (26 and 50), Toledo (24 and 46) and so on down the line. UA has a graduation rate that is 20 percent below the national average and near the bottom of the pack in Ohio. *Proper figures inserted
  14. Working on the kicking game. Sounds like scrimmage today???
  15. Slow is a relative term. I'll let you know how he moves his feet the first time I see him get extended minutes against Ken+ or OU. He had better be able to move his feet since KD values defense to get your court time.
  16. Chisholm ready to go to another level By George Thomas “I just didn’t want to be the average guy. To be great, you have to be more than average,” Chisholm said. “You can’t do the same things everybody on the team is doing.” The results show on Chisholm’s physique. Zips coach Terry Bowden sees it. “He’s about 195 [pounds]. He started the season at 205 last year, so he’s a little lighter, but he’s older,” Bowden said. “He’s lifted weights. He’s trained. You can get faster. I think he’s picked it up. He’s picked up the speed.” PS Thanks for the notes K'92

  20. Fair question. What makes a good college president? 9 Qualities that every college president should have This guy might fall short on #7 Previous Experience of a college president Dr Proenza's background: I hope that my alma mater would use due diligence finding the most qualified candidate available that will continue to build upon the success that Dr Proenza has put forward. Crucial hire.
  21. Good signs! Freshman wide receiver Mykel Traylor-Bennett possesses the work ethic and intelligence to be a key player for the Zips. He has shown the physical tools out on the field, but it’s the mental part of the game that often comes later for players. it’s easy to see that Jerrod Dillard, a 6-foot-5 fifth-year senior, is vastly different from last year. Although he led the Zips with nine touchdown catches, he didn’t come around until a few games into the season. In camp last year, there appeared to be a lack of focus. This year? He’s all about business. The focus is there and with that has come more of a display of what he is capable. Hirschman looks more comfortable leading the offense each day. He and presumed starter Kyle Pohl hit some nice passes Wednesday Remember the name Jatavis Brown, a sophomore linebacker. Brown was all over the field Wednesday, getting a sack and intercepting a Pohl pass
