  1. Whoever is doing the marketing for the athletic department should do a little more research in what they send out to fans. I don't think I should be receiving a post card trying to get me to buy a general admission season ticket when I have already bought a reserved season ticket. One would think you could have more than one post card to send to fans depending on if they already have purchased a ticket or not. Also, being June 28th wouldn't it better to Save the Date for the home opener on September 10th vs Temple? And to try to get me to buy season tickets vs FIU?
I have been plenty critical of the marketing department in the past. This is not the time to do it. They are trying to put together a big homecoming weekend. It seems like a lot of time and energy has gone into planning. Printing and mailing was minimal cost. Season ticket holders received them for informational purpose. If they didn't, how would they plan a weekend that they already have tickets for. Let's give them credit when they actually try to do something. I hope this is a start to something that gets rolling. Of course I have said this umpteen times before. Promoting the season opener is a separate issue.
  2. I got a "save the date" 5 x 7 laser print direct mailer yesterday. Here is the full list of events.

Bigger and bolder than ever, Homecoming 2011 will include a Spirit Parade on Oct. 6; a “Blue, Gold and Soul” concert by legendary musician Herbie Hancock on Oct. 7; alumni-comedian George Wallace direct from Vegas, the Zips Fest and Akron Football vs. Florida International University on Oct. 8; and much more.

For the younger viewers who don't know Herbie Hancock, he is 71 years of age. He had a hit in 1964 that Us3 redid when I was going to school. Wonder if he'll play it for us?

  3. ....it makes it hard to get marketing traction for a good team like basketball.
You would have to sit in the seat, turn the key, put it in gear, and press on the accelerator to find out what kind of traction you have. UA Marketing has yet to sit in the seat. Marketing the basketball team should be like falling off a log this season. You should see Zeke's face everywhere you look around town. Quick prediction, you won't.

PS Nice conversation. Sad, but amusing all in one.

  4. His high school teammate, B. Dupont is transferring there and Henninger's younger brother will be going there for hoops.
Maybe Josh is putting together an ESPN hour special to announce what his intentions are?
  5. For those of you who have long clamored for a "tough" schedule ... you get your wish. The Zips

open the season at Mississippi State with a road game not long after in Morgantown against

the West Virginia Mountaineers. Marshall comes to town along with Detroit (they are loaded)

and Virginia Commonwealth. Trips to Valpo and Duquesne are scheduled. While the schedule

is not complete, these games are firm. Oh, a short trip up to Cleveland State on the docket.

Might have answered my question from 7 months ago.
  6. Seriously doesn't anybody hire designers for web sites?

My wife's company is and they are paying top dollar for those freaks.

I bet they get a well organized, good looking site that customers will appreciate.
  7. A great performance at MSG would definitely help put Zeke and the Zips on the national radar.
Anybody making their first trip to MSG, set your expectations lower. I was not impressed with MSG when I went. It's the oldest arena in the NHL, and looks like it to me.
