Each play? What Zips team have you been watching? Name any adjustment you have seen in a game that happened after "each play"? My point is that we have been playing a decent first half against most teams this year. We go into half time and come out attacking the same way. The other team makes adjustments to what we have been doing successfully and stops it. Our second halves this year stink. After leading at half yesterday, we were outscored 27-10 in the second half, 21-0 against Temple, after leading 10-6 against NI, we got outscored 21-0, tied at half with Buffalo, outscored again, leading against OU, outscored again. I watched it most of this staffs time here at Akron. If we just take the time at half time (because that is when you have the most time to analyze. A lot of teams do it, check it out) and look at what offensive plays were successful for the opposition and try to stop those particular plays, I like our chances much better. I would feel a lot better about this staff if I witnessed one game where we were down by double digits, did something different in the second half, and come back and won a game. Unfortunately there are too many opposite examples of this.

When did we start putting stars on our helmets? I guess I go to most of the games and can't see them from the stands, but yesterday was the first day I noticed there were stars on our helmets. I'm guessing they are for good plays like every other team?? I noticed Andre Jones, Wagner and Alexander had plenty. I also noticed Nicely had none???Freddie Barnes is awesome. He knows how to get open, has great hands, and knows how to get yac. I'm thinking he will have a shot at the next level. I would have never let him get off the line clean yesterday, he would have had our most physical DB in his face for 5 yards and then released to a cover DB. Especially since we have so many on the field. Although I did see a few four DL sets yesterday.BG's run defense is as pathetic as ours! My gawd, what coach thinks those gimmick defenses are good ideas? I just don't get it.I saw my favorite offensive play of the year. Nicely fakes the WR bubble screen to move the d backs up and hits Jones before the safety can get there on a fly. Beautiful design. I'm surprised as many as these WR bubble screens as we see in the NFL now a days, I haven't seen this call in the NFL. And I watch a LOT of NFL games. My second favorite play; Nicely under center, two TE and a full back, off tackle leftt for 3 yards on a 3rd and 1. OMG, I fell off my couch when I saw it. It looked as easy doing it to BG as it looks when teams do it to us...stupid defense.I'm surprised as good of hands as Andre Jones has that he was ever considered on defense...yes I know why he was there, but still after watching his hands on some catches yesterday, he looks special to me. We need to use him the way BG uses Freddie.Kudos for our defense on the 4th and 1. Poorly run by their QB, but way to make them pay. While I'm handing out defensive praise, I'll give Kevin Davis a notice. One of the few times I have seen our DB's up at the line and he held contain all the way across the field and held the RB for a short gain. It works one out of 10 times. I think it was Matt Little that had a nice knock down at the line of scrimmage too. I think coach Okruch saw something on film, because I don't remember our LBs jumping so much at the line of scrimmage as I saw last night. Was it me or did the hash marks on the field seem like they were too close to the sidelines? There were some instances it seemed like when the offense lined up they didn't have enough room? Maybe it was just me.When was the last D1 game that we come out of a half and dominated offensively and defensively? We continue to get out coached in the second half.

Rivals Defensive Coordinator Power Rankings From the beginning of the seasonI would give Narduzzi and Tenuta an interview from that list (both familiar with the MAC). Maybe Bennett.

Another WR coach??? PLEASE get a defensive guy!

I know this is the official thread and all, but there are some other thoughts previously stated on the matter. This thread was started Nov 2ndMitch Browning has ties to our new AD as CK previously suggested back in late October. Many other thoughts in that link also.

Somebody that's willing to take the high road and has a thick skin on a sports forum?

We should just run a penalty killing line with Zeke, Humpty, Bardo and McNees. Short handed goals galore!

I didn't get to see the game yesterday, so read this with that in mind. IMO there is no excuse for a loss like this...BUT, I'll offer this, I have watched some of my favorite teams where I wish they would have lost a game so they can address the problems that exist. Sometimes a narrow victory hides your problems and a coach continues on without changes because the team won. Maybe this early loss will cause some change that will make them a better team in March.

One game in, the answer is "no" FOUR fouls in seven minutes and ZERO points!?!?
-
So how would you defend it?

I hope we never schedule YSU for any reason. Check out www.extendheacockscontract.com

"I like Temple by more than a touchdown"
-
The excerpts don't seem that revealing to me? "When star players have two fouls on them, the next one has to be obvious"....ooooooo real revealing?!? Tim Donaghy seems like a dude I wouldn't hang around. I question anything he had his writer write for him due to his questionable scummy past. I hope nobody buys this rag.A lot of basketball fouls seem up to ones interpretation of the rule to me. They seem worse in the MAC, but I get tired of reading "we got screwed by the ref" posts.I also HATE to see players turn to the ref after they miss a shot and "look" for a foul..(LBJ & Romeo).PS Due to your (GP1) suggestion I picked up a copy of 'The Blind Side' for my Thanksgiving reading. I better like it.

Temple has the worst pass defense in the MAC - shouldn't we 'pass the ball and stop the run?' I liked the mix we had at the K.e.n.t. game. Nicely should throw 30 - 40 passes. Not 59, like Keith. If we are going out of the shotgun, I agree. No sense running (except for a change of pace & to keep the D honest) when the running back has to run 5 yards just to get back to the line of scrimmage. Both our offensive & defensive schemes seem like they are set up to stop our running game, and get the opposition's going. Now, if you give me a full back and a tight end and go under center, then I think we should run the ball, control the clock, and set up our QB to make some easy play action passes. But we all know that ain't happening in the next 3 Zip games.

Hmmmmm This should be a defensive coordinator's DREAM!!! Put 8 in the box and turn the big dogs loose.

How should we defend Temple defensively? Lets look at their last 3 games and see how they attacked Toledo, Navy and Miami.Seems to me that they are gaining a LOT of yards on the ground running the ball, and not a whole lot of yards through the air. Lets take away what they do best (running the ball) and make them beat us through the air. Test their passing game, force them into making mistakes. Come out with a BIG defensive package, get some size up front to stop the run and let the CB play some man. STOP the run and make them pass. If we come out with the 3-3-5, we are going to get run over while playing right into their hands. Let's try to make it hard for them to get first downs. I can not accept a undersized man in our secondary getting 15 tackles this week, because they will be 7 to 20 yards down field.

I enjoy winning games too. Get a grip though, totally new look??? Looked like the same shot gun hand offs to me?I enjoyed the end of rounds, but other than Nicely improving, where is the new look? It ain't on D, while I did see a fewQB pressures, I saw a LOT of three man rush with a SOFT zone in the middle. Keith picked it apart, and that is what thisstupid 3-3-5 defense is supposed to be built for. Special teams, another missed FG, that ain't new, that's for sure. You mustbe talking about the high punts that get downed inside the 5....oh yeah, that is new. Let's take care of our last two home games this year and have a good off season. Then we can start discussing "new look".
-
The saving grace to this season is the experience PN16 is getting. His progress this season gives us hope for next year.
-
We give up 377 yards of passing from a freshman from Ken+, and we have a good defense?!? Not my idea of good D. I'll say for once I seen the staff try to put some pressure on the QB, but that's as far as I'm willing to go.
-
Nice going away present. I would also like to thank him for ditching that rugby-style punt!

That sir, is AWESOME !!!!
