  1. I still believe making a bowl is a nice reward. The players enjoy it, the team gets extra practices, and I'm sure it's a good recruiting tool. Not to mention, as a fan, I get to see my favorite team play another game. This is probably why coach Bowden puts such a high priority, and talks so much about becoming bowl edible each year. I wonder what a player that played in the Pitt, WMU and Utah game would say his favorite victory was?
  2. One more start should lock it up.
  3. Zips Wins - 4 Warren Ball rushing yards - 332 ? Reception Leaders - Tra’Von 26 and Coney 25 Defensive sacks - 15 With Warren Ball being locked in as the under, and a defense that is coming on strong, almost assuredly going 20 and over sacks for the season, only @zzx @GJGood and @Aaron seem to have a chance. @zzx over on the wins, with Chapman. @GJGood under on the wins, with Wolf. @Aaron under on the wins, with Chapman. Good luck guys. I'm rooting for @zzx.
  4. Congratulations to @Lee Adams the only poll winner this week.
  5. 4:20 earliest kickoff
  6. Akron and Western Michigan face major tests. By Elton Alexander, The Plain Dealer The Zips (3-3, 2-0) are both the surprise of the league and the biggest puzzle. They have lost to Penn State, Iowa State and Troy, with competitive efforts vs. ISU and Troy. And they have defeated three weak sisters -- Arkansas Pine Bluff, Bowling Green and Ball State. Traveling to WMU should tell if Akron, led by senior quarterback Tommy Woodson (1,124 yards passing, 8 TD), is a serious threat to become bowl eligible and contend for a division and overall 2017 MAC title.
  7. • Nice feature on the Buddenbergs (10 minutes in). • Defensive play of the day, Brian Bell on 4th and goal, big tackle. • Stock rising, Rutgers transfer Darian Dailey, don't see a lot of stats on him, because teams don't throw his way often. • Everybody in the secondary is back next year, bright future for them and the defense.
  8. Not the first game that Wentz has impressed me, but he looked great last night. A LOT of scouts were wrong about this kid. Wentz Makes Eagles Real
  9. Jon Wassink has been limited to 3 interceptions this year, and the Broncos are 12th in the nation fumbling the ball 0.6 times a game. I wouldn't bank on the Broncos making multiple turnovers in this game, they don't seem like a careless team with the ball. Weather could be a factor though. This would be my focus. Let's go run stoppers! Show me cover 0 and let Gilbert run wild. Coach Stroud should have them fired up. ???
  10. IMO this game will come down to the effectiveness of the Zips limiting a Broncos running game that is averaging 237 yards per game. I'm hoping that the continual progression of Zips passing game makes for some big rushing plays. If you feel good about the Zips this week, you can get 5:1 odds. Scattered thunderstorms and winds 5-10 MPH ??
  11. I heard Woodson say, I just missed, no excuses, when asked about his overthrows. But I keep hearing coach Bowden talk about wind. He said it again in yesterday's presser. So I'm assuming the wind was blowing toward the scoreboard, since both TD passes were that way?
  12. Discuss your answers below.
  13. Anybody see the TB Show last week? They interviewed Thomas, AJ and Tra'Von about the QB position and how Thomas plays it. All claimed how well Thomas knew AJ's playbook and what AJ wanted to accomplish. AJ claimed that Thomas knew what he was thinking sometimes before he said it. I would be interested to see what happen if the offense went "hurry up" a series or two where Thomas called the plays. PS This idea would have been way better with MTB in the mix, so he could change personnel without substituting, depending on the defensive personnel.
  14. Giants sign WR Ed Eagan to roster The Giants are rebuilding their receiving corps on the fly. They promoted wide receiver Travis Rudolph from their practice squad on Monday and re-signed wideout Tavarres King to replace Odell Beckham Jr. and Dwayne Harris, who both went on injured reserve after season-ending surgery. The team also re-signed Darius Powe to the practice squad. The Giants signed Eagan, a one-time undrafted free agent out of Northwestern (La.) State, late in the preseason. He was among the final cuts, but returned to their practice squad in Week 3.
  15. Congratulations, we are so happy for you. Bottom line, the Zips own Portage County. Go Zips!
  16. If Jerome started playing Sunday, he wouldn't be that far behind this "struggling" rookie receiving class.
  17. 7. State of Kent (1-5) Boiling Green won, thanks to a bad snap-turned-TD return against My Hammy of Ohio. The Buffalo Bulls Not Bills lost in seven (!) overtimes to Western Michigan. But Kent kept on keeping on, getting rolled 24-3 by Northern Illinois. But the best #Bottom10Lobbying effort came from a fan of 2-3 Eastern Michigan, stuck in a meh Ypsilanti purgatory somewhere between winning the Bottom 10 title two years ago and going to a bowl game last December.
  18. MAC Weekly Media Teleconference Audio (Bowden) • Defense has gotten better each week. They bend, don't break. • TW missed five deep balls. He runs our offense well. He gives us a chance to be successful on offense. • We will be tested by WMU's running game. • WMU might be the best team in the conference • If you "bend" with this team, they will get in the end zone. • Hopefully WMU will be tired after 7 overtimes. I had to spend the whole day watching the film. • East and west champions will come down to November.
  19. Brandon Marshall out for the season, come on Jerry pick up the phone.
  20. Anyone that doesn't have access to CBSSN, you can try the CBS app for free. Dave Ryan will do play-by-play, Corey Chavous, analyst, and Melanie Collins on the sideline. In the NCAA stats, Akron is No. 4 in defensive touchdowns (3), No. 13 in passes intercepted (8), No. 30 in third down conversions (0.455), and No. 38 in red zone defense (0.762). Individually, junior LB Ulysees Gilbert III is ranked No. 17 in total tackles (9.7). In the NCAA stats, Western Michigan is ranked No. 13 in scoring offense (42.8), No. 14 in kickoff returns (26.47), No. 16 in red zone offense (0.929), and No. 21 in net punting (41.33).
