A couple observations from the game - The second week in a row, pulling Kyle was the Zips best run play, see the Sands td run below. - I think it might be time to tighten up our receiver rotation. Woodson needs more reps with less guys. - Again, sick for WB, but the position depth is as the staff described at the beginning of the season. Very capable. - Did anybody notice Anthony Winbush, the nation's sack leader yesterday? Congratulations to the Zips game plan, they did exactly what coach Bowden said they were going to do, and executed it to perfection. BTW, Anthony had zero sacks, and only two tackles. - It stil concerns me that for three quarters of the game, Milas sat comfortably in the pocket. What did the Zips do late in the game to collapse the pocket quicker? - I know Kobie Booker missed a big block right in front of the staff, but overall I saw a lot of good from him yesterday. I hope he continues to progress. - Nice job by Woodson and company, protecting the ball. It's invaluable not turning the ball over in a game. - While we have become acustome to Gilbert making 13 tackles, congrats to Hauser, with 13 as well.

Congratulations to @RowdyZip @feetg10 @zippy5 who picked all three correct! Nice job.

Alumni weekend, looks like Jerome will be in town. Wonder if JB will be there, he plays in NY Sunday.

I think Gilbert got hurt in the Tennessee Tech game, he didn't play against WKU or WMU. Not sure of the accuracy, but he is listed as "downgraded and expected to miss Saturday" here. Vinnie was correct about the wide receiver prospects, coach Bowden mentioned a true freshman leading all freshman in the nation in his presser.

Some love for the secondary as they get two interviews after the game.

I only watched the first quarter of the BSU/WMU game. In one set of downs they went 10 personnel (first down), 02 personnel (second down), and 11 personnel (third down). Defensive communication and substitutions will come into play for the Zips defensive unit. Press Conference Notes: • Kato gives you a wildcat look. • Come out of BG healthy other than WB. • Tommy made his own read on the TD run. • Called our offense blue collar. Need more big plays. Challenged the offensive players to come up with explosive plays. • 12 personnel will continue to be part of the offense. Our TEs look like RBs, not prototypical. We need them to catch more. • Brian Reinke had 7 pressures on the QB last week. We are getting close. • Deon'Tae Moore nursing an injury, and getting better. • Anthony Winbush leads the nation in sacks (7.5) and reminds coach of Dwight Freeney. • Justin Hall top freshman WR in nation. • We think we are getting better at running the ball. We were successful running the ball when BG knew we were going to run. • We worked hard on not holding. We had five holding calls against Troy.

Akron ranks 35th in the country with five interceptions, and 52nd with three fumbles recovered. While the Zips offense is averaging only 336 yards of offense a game, I find it amazing that they are converting 47% (36 of 76) or their 3rd downs. That ranks in the top 20 in the country.

Still going...

Milwee run MTB in the wildcat last year, and Warren Ball this year. Do we have another player on the roster that is capable in short yardage situations? Me too. I'm waiting for Kato to catch a ball this year. He is capable. I wouldn't mind seeing a trick play this week.

I wish him well. I have a feeling he will succeed in whatever he sets out to do in life. PS Nice photo! ?

One thing I forgot to mention in my game notes, Kobie Booker showed some recieving ability making his first reception (18 yards), coach Bowden has recognized him for doing a good job blocking, but he would be a welcome addition helping out our receiving corp in the middle of the field. Coach Bowden made a comment about the tight end position in his on field interview after the game, "we need to start to get the tight end involved in our offense." Let's see how many times the tight end releases from the line of scrimmage this week.

Watch it, and report what you see. Ball State vs Western Michigan Cloudy and warm weather forecast for Saturday.

WatchESPN link here MAC Weekly Media Teleconference Audio (Bowden) • Tommy is coming along as he gets the rust off. His timing is coming back. • We are still trying to get the ball in the best receivers hands, and figuring out who they are. • Feel bad for Warren, but we have veteran backs to fill in. They are not as powerful as Warren, but are more shifty. • We need to do better against the run this week. • We need to be more explosive, and put more points on the board. • Coach called out DE Anthony Winbush as being a player they need to be concerned with. He should be up against Trevor Brown most of the day.

Discuss answers below. The Ball State Cardinals own the league's No. 28-rated front 7 in terms of stopping the run, allowing 97.33 yards per game when on the road.

Thanks for taking the time to post @ZZZips ??

He's trying to hide from you. ? He changed his number from 13 to 26 to 22 in less than two months. A few positive things I noticed from the game. • Everybody feels terrible about Warren Ball's injury, but just as the staff indicated before the year started, they are comfortable with the RB group. Van come in and run hard for 70 yards on 14 carries showing the ability to break tackles. Manny added 50 yards, and Deltron has nine carries under his belt this year and seems to have recovered from his shoulder issues. • Woodson seems to have shaken off the "rust" and is delivering the ball on time and with some zip. He even finally started running the ball when everybody collapses on the run up the middle. • I like the series that Kato got. I thought that was a good use of a QB that has different skills than your starter. Give the defense more to prepare for, while providing some experience. It was a well timed change. • I thought Kyle Ritz did an awesome job pulling, every time we run that play we got some nice success, hope to see more. • Austin Wolf gives our receiving corp the experience it needs. Without Wolf, it seemed our corp was out of position, with Wolf, I think everybody fits into their role. • Twenty-two different players contributed a tackle on defense in the game. Ulysees, Brian Bell, Deon'Tae Moore and Brennan Williams all had a tackle for loss. We are still not seeing enough QB pressure, but I think it was better in this game. • I always think it's nonsensical to look a month ahead of the schedule and start to mark wins and losses. There are three ways a team can go at this juncture of the season, get worse, stay the same, or get better. I think this team has the talent to get better. I think Chuck Amato's defenses have always gotten better by the end of the year. The staff indicated that the run game was ahead of the passing game at the beginning of the year, between Ball's injury and Woodson's progression from his injury, I think the two are getting closer, and we may see the offense progress as a result.

In an interview after the game Kyron said something like " they run that play twice before, I recognized it, and was sitting on it." Coach Bowden called Kyron out in his show last week, and said he was the defensive back playing the best so far. Hard to argue.

Deshaun Watson is better than even the Texans expected --by Michael David Smith On Sunday Watson was sensational, passing for 283 yards and four touchdowns, running for 24 yards and a touchdown, and leading Houston to a 57-14 win over Tennessee. Those 57 points were the most in Texans history and the most in any NFL game in five years. Watson became just the second rookie in NFL history with 250 pass yards, four passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a game. (The first was Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton in 1961.) And Watson is now the only player in NFL history to put up seven passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the first four games of his rookie season. Vikings give Bears another reason to start Mitch Trubisky --by Steve Rosenbloom Kizer completed 16-of-34 passes for 118 yards and an interception before he was pulled in favor of Kevin Hogan. Then he calls out his offense: "In order to be successful in this league, it takes all 11 guys on one side of the ball working together to execute their job properly," Kizer said. "We were not able to do that across the board from the first snap." His eight interceptions lead the NFL after four games, as do his nine turnovers. Hue thinks Kizer played "lights out" against the Bungles. ? Edit: Trubisky will start next Monday
